Neither myself or my other half has an Egg credit card yet we're still getting these stupid calls from this number.

I received two calls on my mobile from them this morning.I didn't answer them because it's my policy not to answer numbers I don't recognise. They did not leave a voice message, which annoyed me. After checking the number on this board, I dialled the numbe because I am an Egg customer and wanted to find out what they wanted. The number is legitimate, and Egg were trying to contact me to query some transactions (one of them was a substantial transaction of a few hundred pounds) on my credit card to verify that the transactions were carried out by me not an unauthorised person.

Yeah its egg security, checking recent transactions, if you get a call from them, about recent transactions they are normally right about fraudulent activity. Luckily i just cancelled my card, as part of the some dodgy dealings !!

Keeps ringing my mobile - "important message from Egg" then when I press any key to continue I get nothing.  I did try and book a holiday on my Egg card yesterday and the payment wasn't authorised, so I'm sure it is legitimate but frustrating nonetheless.

I do not have a an Egg credit card, and never have, so looks like their system isn't foolproof. Its no fun being abusive to the caller when its a computer.

Yes, it's Egg. I phoned back using a number form the main Egg web site and they confirmed it was them asking me to check a transaction for security reasons.

This is a legitimate security check from Egg. They detected a US$ transaction on my card and it was flagged a suspicious. Funny though, because it's a subscription I pay EVERY month, so they could've just looked back at my previous statements to see it was genuine/regular.

I elected NOT to call the number back - but instead called the number printed on the back of the card. Then you know it's Egg for sure you're calling before you hand over your security details.

Still, while these checks can be annoying, I'd rather they query stuff than ignore it like other credit card companies. For this reason my Egg card is THE ONLY card I use on the internet.

I've had the same sort of call claiming to be from Egg. I hung up once it started asking for security information as I obviously couldn't verify the call was really from Egg. I admire the concept but the security implications score a big fail.

There's nothing wrong with this number calling you. I've just had a missed call and it's a fraud check. I'd rather they did this than just let the transactions go through.

You can verify it is Egg on the other end as this telephone number is on their legitimate website.

If you're still concerned, send them a secured message online.

    Not an Egg Customer
I've had several calls from this number today.  The service is not that good, and quite frankly not that "genuine".  I don't have an Egg account/credit card or anything even remotely related to Egg.

So, why are they calling me then!?!?!

    Great service!
I thought it may have been a scam when I first realised it was automated but followed the security checks and was pleasantly surprised to hear they were calling to verify I'd purchased something online from France.

It is a very good idea from Egg and helps prevent fraud on your account.

I concure - i had a couple of missed calls from this with no msg and when i finally caught the call, it was egg security's automated service wanting to check some recent transactions made in the states that may not have been authorised by me.
Very good idea but wish it could leave a msg if no answer.
I'll store the number on my phone with "!!!URGENT-Egg SECURITY!!!".

I phoned egg today and they confirmed it was them.
They were contacting me as there had been two internet purchases on my account which they wanted to ensure were genuine.

I cant fault them for checking as at the end of the day Egg is looking after its customers and i support that 100%

Egg had been checking up on unusual transactions - I'm visiting the USA, and it was all sorted out quickly and easily without my card being blocked.  Great service, though I did have a lot of missed calls that baffled me until they got through to me.  Now I know I'll save the number to my phone.

I am delighted that Egg take a proactive approach in protecting me from fraud without tying up a call centre full of people which would make this too expensive to work.  Good for them.

The problem with this number is that if you are not at home to answer the call, your whole tranaction fails.  This has caused me grief in the past with a couple of online retailers, where it appears the credit card company is declining the transaction.
