Great service IF ONLY it was better designed - at the very least, the message should say it's Egg. Twice today the answerphone has picked up a recorded female voice 'Select any key to continue' then nothing. Just before googling the number, i told my son to hang up immediately if he answered and it was this machine, and on no account to press any keys. MISLEADING! Surely explaining in the message wouldn't stop them dealing with thousands of customers. I don't want to waste my phone bill calling them back either, to reassure them it was a legit transaction, i feel they should have a freephone number for that.

I just placed an order with Dell for a new laptop. Straight after I had a call from this number... It was Egg security to verify my transaction.

Yes, it's that useless credit card called Egg. It's happened a couple of times recently, once in Geneva when I was using my Egg Money card to try and place a security deposit for a hire car. The card was rejected, luckily I had a spare, 12 hours later the mystery call from Egg followed by holding for 10 minutes just to confirm the transaction. It's a bit late now I said, and how about reimbursing me for the phonecall from Switzerland, 'sorry sir' was the reply.

Most recently trying to order a Nexus One from Google in the USA the order was put on hold for some reason, the following day I had 2 missed calls and 2 silent voicemails from the same number. Yes it was Egg again, checking it was me making the transaction.

The system is lousy, I can sort of understand why they do it, but the security call should be made straight away not the following day.

I just received one of these calls, rang it back and got straight through to an exceptionally helpful lady who checked a couple of transactions were 'real'.  I'm very glad of this website though.

Just received a call from this number claiming to be Egg and requiring me to press any button to continue. The line simply goes dead. Checked previous posts regarding this number and apparently as far back as 2008 Egg have been aware of the issue.  Hmm, interesting?

had the same today and can confirm it is legitimately Egg Card doing routine checks for possible dodgy transaction Great to know they are monitoring all transactions

It was my credit card company (egg) and they were checking a large amount of money that had been paid out of the account the same day.

Absolutely agree with this comment. Why use an automated service? I got past the "please confirm your name" stage and it started asking me to input account numbers into the phone. Needless to say I hung up. When I called the number back it failed to connect everytime. Alarm bells started ringing. Luckily I'm a an I.T. Professional so I'm probably more wary than most. But this is just asking to be exploited.

Obviously I'm not knocking their security. But I thought their "fraud" department were supposed to call you personally. Not spam my mobile phone.
