They called me today at 13.09. As I was ouit there was now answer, and they didn't leave a message. I have signed up with TPS but they obviously don't care about that. Hope they never ring again.

Great web site this - but I seem to need it every couple of weeks!  We're category 2 ex-directory and on TPS (I think you have to renew that annually, obviously a built-in loophole by DMA Direct Marketing Association).  As Roz said, these organisations just dial numbers by computer, which drops any unobtainable ones and carries on to the next.  When someone answers, the next available agent takes on the call; if no agents are available when you answer, the computer hangs up on you as it always dials enough numbers to keep the agents busy.  

If you look at GfK NOP's ) website, they refer to their "cutting edge technology" and another similar company, Telegen boasts of their state of the art computer call system.  Both hope to impress clients with their ability to contact consumers.

To discourage the call systems that so annoy the public, I suppose we could contact our MP's to tell them that DMA's TPS is just a figleaf for pestering the public and stronger controls are needed, contact the client companies and tell them that it creates a negative image of their company, and/or waste as much of their time and call costs for as little gain as possible by putting them on hold, waffling, asking them to call back, etc.

Have received a few from this number this week. Luckily have not answered.
We have caller ID and we also have TPS.
I was glad to read the above comments and to know not to answer should they keep calling, etc.

This number has rang me 2 times tonight. Getting to become a pain now, im not answering it either. How would they have got my mobile number? I am on contract with T-mobile, surely they wouldnt have give them my number?

Got a call 19.02.08 Caller asked for my husband by name,he wasn't available at the time. We are XD and also a member of TPS. When I asked who it was, she quoted something like GKS. I asked what t he call was in connection with and she said it was a in response to a call he had recently made to them! A lie I think. I dialed 1471 and then Googled the numbet, found this.

I'm on their list too. When I asked how did you get this number the reply was 'random dialling' !!!! B****hit.

Here's what I do..I say "hold on a moment, I'll get my dad" and leave the phone off the hook.

Sorry, forgot to mention they should all be taken out and shot for harassment.

Rang 1471 and got this number. Fortunately checked it out on the internet before returning the call.

This number rang my work phone in my office at home on 25th February at 8.19pm, I haven't given this number to anybody as I only use it for work purposes so I know when it rings it's either a wrong number or some pain in the backside company cold calling me.

When ever it rings I turn on my fax machine which is connected to this phone line and within a few seconds they get a high pitched electronic squeeling down their ear hole (think of Joe Pasquale wearing tight underwear singing opera!!), hopefully that will discourage them from calling this number again.

If anybody receives a call from this number, answer then immediately ask them to hold for a moment as you need to let your dog out (even if you don't have a dog, just pretend, growl and bark a little if you want, don't go and buy one!), put the receiver down and leave it for 10-15 mins, they'll soon get the message and hang up and are unlikely to call again!

These people have called on numerous occasions using two different numbers: 01582 630015 and 01582 630014. Thankfully phone was on silent so I've not picked it up. Glad I didn't now!!!

No message left, I checked because I am avoiding the phone and I thought it was a distant relative.  I too am logged with TPS.

just called 1743 woke me up . i always check calls on google b4 ringing back as dont want  to be cherged

Called at 10.23 am 15th March 2008, listed on 1471 missed call

they phoned for survey, asked name and what mobile i was on seemed to push orange, and asked if i had land line and i said" u should know u called it!" he said they dont know who they phone cud be landline or mobile. then he asked what tv provider and i said i didnt have a tv! then he quickly made excuses and said they couldnt provide their services to me and bye! made me suspicious and here i am... theres something doggy about them and we feel it!

the most studpid thing they do is not hiding theire caller ID. they cant be that clever hahahaah...

Have had this as a missed call a number of times, called this evening saying it was for a survey, and then asked me a number of questions about my mobile phone, land line and internet service provider. I never normally answer these but like an idiot this time I did, but hopefully didn't give too much away!?! ( Like he didn't ask for personal details, or phone numbers etc) )  At the end of the call the guy on the end of the phone said "we already have the required number of responses by people matching your profile" ( or something like that.) and hung up.

Pretty worried now after reading the above comments

I work for a chidlrens activity company, they phoned about 10.30pm quiet late at night and asked if it was a business line, my work experience told yes but the manager was busy and they hung up, they havent called again.

I googled the number thinking it was a business number thank god i didnt phone them back.
