- JLPPossibly the worst sales calls I've had in twenty years. They claim affiliation with the Cabinet Office, DCLG, you name it, but are in fact an event business, trying to persuade you to pay to speak or exhibit at their shows. The woman I've had the misfortune to be targeted by (her initials are RW) sounds as if she's on horse tranquilisers and is aggressive, insensitive, ill-informed and downright common, all in some sort of painful slow motion. I can only advise anyone receiving a call from this organisation to put the phone down immediately - or risk being sucked into wormhole of pointless, timewasting numbness.

- SimonI have been swapping e-mails with Gordon Warrender who heads this company. I am staggered that there are so many other folk who have taken the time to express their dissatisfaction with his business.
We have been phoned many times after advising Warrender that our company should be removed from his lists. He provides categoric assurances and then ignores them. His staff write him illiterate e-mails which he forwards on.
I have now taken on the responsibility of doing all that I can to get the authorities to recognise the antics of this business. My hope is that severe sanctions can be imposed because although Warrender is smart, and remarkably arrogant, his business has to comply with the laws of the land.

- Director of PSCA| 1 replyMany of these postings are from genuine businesses that have been called too often after having been asked to be put on a manual suppression list. Unfortunately, this list only works when used correctly. In order to counteract the problem of employees not using the list properly, the company is now about to invest in number suppression technology which will completely remove this issue and bar the phone system from calling listed numbers. However, there are many postings on this site that are distasteful, malicious, unfair and untrue written obviously by people who clearly believe it is ok to leave personal insults. These people are rude, unprofessional and it is their aim to harm PSCA as a business and gain personally as a result because they work in rival organisations. We know who these people are and the companies involved, we will not lower ouselves to their level. If this site was credible, it would not allow posts of this nature and bar the offending IP addresses from posting again in the future. Unfortunately it is not. Any future postings of this nature say more about the person leaving the comment than it does about us, whilst there is undoubtedly a problem with call suppression we need to address, it also says that we are getting many things right if other publishing and events companies and individuals within those companies continue to be obsessed by us. If you have a genuine concern and wish to be added to the list, email donotcall@publicservice.co.uk and your request will be actioned.
- The Ginger Pimpernel replies to Director of PSCASo your response is, in essence, that -
1) Our staff don't follow instructions. (And this is defensible how exactly? If they cannot be trusted in this regard, how can they be trusted in others?)
2) We would like you to email us your details so that we can stop calling you. This despite the fact we never wanted to enter into any dialouge with you in the first place.
3) In the process of which we get and keep your contact data stored.
4) People who complain are, in the main, competitors. We know who you are. (Whether or not that could be perceived as a veiled threat is open to question. Do PSCA go around threatening people?)
5) This site is not credible. Why contribute to it then? Does your response not validate it? Ban the internet!
6) We do get other things right. Honest we do. No-one likes us cause we are so great and smashing and super and nice. Ask around. Phone the government departments we claim to work with and ask them what they think of us (alright, I made that very last bit up) - SimonI am pretty sure that the above post from a PSCA Directorwas written by Wendy Wood, the Chief Operating Officer at PSCA.
It might interest you to know that Ms Wood included the following sentence in an e-mail that she sent to me on the 22nd September:
We are an aggressive sales organisation, selling advertising and sponsorship is not an easy business and some companies will not appreciate being sold to forcefully but we do not and will not apologise for taking our business very seriously.
I have done my best to explain to Ms Wood that an order should be the natural outcome of a sales negotitation since there are mutual benefits. I am not certain she understood. Nonetheless, she did seek to impress on me the quality of PSCA products, bizarrely by telling me that:
To put this into perspective and get it into context, our sales team consists of the following:
70 people making 50 calls per day = 3500 per day
5 days = 17500 calls per week
In addition, our marketing team send out over 250,000 emails every day
To my mind, this simply tells me that the products are probably dreadful because there must be plenty of companies telling them 'no', many repeatedly. Their turnover is modest and the latest set of accounts comes with a cautionary note from the auditor questioning their ability to continue operating as a going concern. - concernedForced to change their name from Public Service Communication Agency by what was the DTI

Google "ASA PSCA COMPLAINT" to see what the advertising standards authority think of their operation....
I don't think there's much more that needs to be added here, pretty much obvious what kind of company they are....

- Manchester| 1 replyHow anybody can take this seriously..All companies have unhappy customers at times. If they have time to post on this site I don't think they are very serious themselves. Why not start looking into all the good work this company does.. Look at their website and you'll see! Let people make their own minds up as they have many happy customers.

I asked them to just send me a letter and she said that my name had come up in a meeting and that she had rushed out to give me a quick call.
I kept asking where she got my mobile number from she kept saying that a member of her team had passed on my details, or that I had given them to someone, or that someone at my company had passed them on, or that where she got my number wasn't relevant.
Definitely spam marketing. - MistressTAZReceived a very LEWD call from this number 07/10/10@15.23hours

- client replies to FM Electrics| 1 replyGreat product. they produce the DMJ. Defence Management Journal. Go online flick through it. Its brilliant editorial and clearly alot of support from lucrative advertising. so glad they called and made me aware if it as the Defence Industry is who I target. Compared to others Defence based poroducts this one wins hands down. Very professional is what I would describe them as.
- come on replies to clientIf you are going to make fake posts in support of your offerings then might I politely suggest that you ensure that they are written by someone with a slightly better grasp of the English language.
That way they might be believable. - H| 1 replyHad a call for second day running from this number. Very rude and discouteous lady who will not take no for an answer and will only entertain speaking to the Managing Director.
When I pushed her for more info before I would pass on details she said she worked for publicsector.co.uk and that MD's name had been passed to her...she asked to check the name with me...it was incorrect. So she asked to check his mobile number...that too was incorrect (just a guess at name and no I'd say as correct directors name can be picked up from companies house search!). I refused to pass on mobile number and asked directly 'are you selling advertising space?' She would not give a direct answer and just said she was working on a n 'initiative' invovling SOCA, so could not pass on any more info without speaking to the MD. I told her we worked in a sensitive industry and would not pass our details on to her without knowing exactly what she wanted. End of conversation.
Clearly just pushy sales tactics.- Call type: Telemarketer

- Company in ScotlandJust had call from this number supposedly working for Historic Scotland - gleaning information on the pretence of possibly providing work. Told me she was either a project manager or a high ranking executive with a PA and secretary (whichever you choose to believe) attending a 'high power' meeting and was telephoning from the foyer of a Masonic Hall during a break in the meeting - obviously to cover the noise of the call centre she was really telephoning from!! Won't be waiting for any work from them!! Total SCAM

- Perplexed SloughYep, just got a call from some called Rebecca Jones from the Public Service. Tel 01782 620088. Must talk to the head of our department and its always urgent. Do they really think they are going to get given someones direct land line or mobile...I don't think so...having caller ID and the facility to shove her straight to voice mail is great...unfortunately as they all have skin like rhinos, they never get the message. What dreadful people...
