- Company Director| 15 repliesFor years they rang us and used various nefarious ways of getting me on teh phone so they could try and cheat money from me. PSCA became a byword in our business for dodgy or underhand dealings. They started to get more success when they changed their name to 'public service' and managed to get past my PA that way. However they used the same tired old techniques and I quickly rumbled that it was them again.
A friend of mine who works at Private Eye told me that PE were quite interested in them and sent me a pdf of an article by the great, late Paul Foot. I have cut a short passage from it below for all to see in teh hope that forum's like these will alert more people to the sort of instincts and morals these people have.
Irronically, when I had had enough and asked to speak to the MD I was passed through to a man called Gerrod Mellor who told me he was a compnay director. I subsequently learnt that was just another in the litany of lies they tell. Mellor is a Sales Manager, and an odious and utterly charmless one at that. He assured me that the calls would stop but, of course, they haven't. We now take their calls, pretend we are interested but pass them to one of our interns or office juniors and tell them to pretend they are a director of our company. This not only gives our younger members of staff a crash course in how not to behave professionally but has the added nonus of wasting PSCA's time and annoying the oiks who work in their sales team.
Anyway - here is a quote from Private Eye article which has much more information on their misleading claims about distributuion numbers and an admission from Gordon Warrender, Sales Director, that ministers don't actually write articles for them (a view not shared by his own staff who continue to claim taht they are so close to ministers I am surprised the forthcoming nuptials have not yet been announced)
The DTI forced them into a name change after Companies House concluded that agency name was “so misleading an indication of the nature of its activities as to be likely to cause harm to the public” and likely to make both readers and advertisers believe it was a government agency and its magazines officially sanctioned.- Caller: PSCA

Incidentally - will you deny the legitimacy about the comments I made about Private Eye and more importantly deny the edict from the DTI about the name change?
I await your response. - Hard Facts replies to Company Director| 11 repliesHave PSCA ever been told by the British Government (specifically the DTI) to change their company trading name because it was deemed misleading and likely to cause harm to the public?

Do PSCA salespeople routinley purport to be senior members of staff who have been in meetings and have rushed out to phone a company because a senior civil servant has demanded their inclusion in a publication - despite this whole meeting scenario having NEVER ONCE happened in the ten years they have been trading?

Have the Advertising Standards Authority ever found that PSCA's job adverts falsely misrepresent PSCA's links to government?

And Craig - think with your tiny little brain and ask yourself if this really is Tony? Have PSCA not made a few more enemies on the way? Maybe its GOVNET? - Paul replies to Hard Facts| 6 repliesTony I left you a message on the other HQ number in case you have forgot it's 01782 667340.
Oh and wants up with the Edinburgh number dont you like going on their. - Hard Facts replies to Paul| 5 replies'There' Paul; not 'their'.
'Their' means belonging to. Dear oh dear you are a plum aren't you.
What with Wendy being too stupid to tie her own shoe laces and you unable to spell properly its no wonder Napoleon is going grey. - paul replies to Hard Facts| 3 repliesYou sound like a school teacher.
How is our sister business doing?
All the losers who were trained up by PSCA. - Hard Facts replies to paul| 2 repliesPaul - I have had enough fun taking the piss out of you now for now. It's just too easy. I think we both know you look like a dick and anyway it's pointless continuing this because you are so utterly incapable of saying anything clever, funny or interesting. It's like having a conversation with a child from remedial class who has had a bang on the head.
The sensible option would have been to shut up and ignore all my provocative comments but you are far too stupid to have done that, and far too arrogant. The truth hurts and all that. Gordon isn't stupid and he'll have seen what a knob you have made of yourself and even though he won't say it we both know he'll be thinking it.
BTW the moniker 'PSCA Superstar' you gave yourself on the Manchester page is the funniest thing you have said the last two days. Good to know you at least have a sense of irony. - Shelley Jackson-WoodallHave been hounded by a woman from this company. She would never leave information with a colleague and was rude and aggressive if I was unable to take her call - this aroused my colleagues suspicions and so we checked out the number!!
Well, she finally spoke to me today - what a joy! Rude, aggressive, demanding - all in 3 minutes after I said I wasn't interested in what she was trying to sell me. She said that my name had come up in a meeting and that she had rushed out to give me a quick call - this was obviously untrue, as she had called last week and the week before.
I told her I was going to hang up - which I did. She called me back to tell me she was disgusted with my attitude and company!!
Thank you, my lovely - I hope you are happy in your job :)- Caller: PSCA

- Avenger| 2 repliesUnfortunately my first contact from PSCA co-incided with a campaign we were planning at the time. Having a relatively large marketing budget, coupled with the "theme" of the particular issue, I accepted a proposal.
Within hours of the initial agreement, I was contacted by another PSCA member offering an "upgrade" i.e. more prominent position etc. It was insinuated that this would supercede, although this was later denied after querying, the previous agreement, however, yes you've guessed it, we were invoiced for both.
In the period in between the "agreement(s)" and us receiving the invoices, I was offered a number of "fantastic opportunities" if I could "help PSCA out of a hole". I stated that I'd rather not commit to any further spend until my company had digested the success, or otherwise, of the initial insertion. Of course my fears were allayed due "not having to pay if not delighted".
The strange thing is "I haven't given it enough time to gauge success", two months, however I can't cancel after 7 days???
My company has had fantastic response, using the same case studies, elsewhere during this period, not one enquiry via PSCA.
We have paid, grudgingly, for the alleged services we've had, alarmingly we can't cancel services we haven't yet had nor do we want!
I'm happy to support any campaign which exposes this deceit. - help at hand replies to Avenger| 1 replyDear Avenger
My advice is to ask PSCA for a copy of the phone conversations between you and them. They will have them on file though they will no doubt try and deny this. However you are legally entitled to those phone recordings.
What they say verbally and what you then subsequently sign up to are two very different things. This lack of clarity is exacerbated by PSCA's view that they put their terms and conditions on their web page, thereby implying that you have an opportunity to read them and have, according to them, willingly entered into a contract.
They will do whatever they can to avoid releasing you from any existing contracts. They have no interest in anything other than wringing you as dry as they can and then moving on.
Ask for them to send you a copy of the phone conversations and if you have the time, money and sheer bloody-mindedness them I would urge you to pursue them through the courts - or at least threaten to - as they might decide that it is cheaper to let you off the hook than have what they consider a valid contract to be tested once and for all in a court of law.
My experience is that they sometimes prefer not to chase people for money if that person threatens legal action or if that person invites PSCA to sue them.
Good luck - and hopefully those of us who are keen to see the walls of their temple brought crashing down will have our day at some point. - ex psca accounts employee replies to help at handV.Good advice!
I couldn't have explained it better myself.
Avenger, i wish you all the will in the world, the rot does not stop at their sales function. the whole operation is run in the same way.
