    Annoyed company director
For years they rang us and used various nefarious ways of getting me on teh phone so they could try and cheat money from me. PSCA became a byword in our business for dodgy or underhand dealings. They started to get more success when they changed their name to 'public service' and managed to get past my PA that way. However they used the same tired old techniques and I quickly rumbled that it was them again.

A friend of mine who works at Private Eye told me that PE were quite interested in them and sent me a pdf of an article by the great, late Paul Foot. I have cut a short passage from it below for all to see in teh hope that forum's like these will alert more people to the sort of instincts and morals these people have.

Irronically, when I had had enough and asked to speak to the MD I was passed through to a man called Gerrod Mellor who told me he was a compnay director. I subsequently learnt that was just another in the litany of lies they tell. Mellor is a Sales Manager, and an odious and utterly charmless one at that. He assured me that the calls would stop but, of course, they haven't. We now take their calls, pretend we are interested but pass them to one of our interns or office juniors and tell them to pretend they are a director of our company. This not only gives our younger members of staff a crash course in how not to behave professionally but has the added nonus of wasting PSCA's time and annoying the oiks who work in their sales team.

Anyway - here is a quote from Private Eye article which has much more information on their misleading claims about distributuion numbers and an admission from Gordon Warrender, Sales Director, that ministers don't actually write articles for them (a view not shared by his own staff who continue to claim taht they are so close to ministers I am surprised the forthcoming nuptials have not yet been announced)

The DTI forced them into a name change after Companies House concluded that agency name was “so misleading an indication of the nature of  its activities as to be likely to cause harm to the public” and likely to make both readers and advertisers believe it was a government agency and its magazines officially sanctioned.

It's a lot easier to concentrate on your own company when you're not getting repeatedly pestered by the likes of PSCA.

Here is your answer El Thicko:

    Paul

PSCA is not the hand that feeds Tony and Pete - to be the hand that feeds PSCA they would have to be PSCA employees.

You really are stupendously thick to misuse a phrase like that.

    For clarity's sake:

PSCA is the hand that feeds you Paul

Govtoday is the hand that feeds Tony and Pete.

Anytime you want to respond to my initial post about PSCA's history please feel free to do so.

Yes definately a scam - with many lies - lies - lies told over the phone.
Pretend to be working / researching for 'any' Government department,
and given some high job spec title.  Normally telephone number is
witheld, but when I asked for a number to call back ('promise')
    it leads to:

    http://www.publicserviceevents.co.uk/main/contact.asp?event_ID=102

where you can find 3 others numbers to look out for and ignore.
I think they just want to sell advertising space and doubt very much if
'Charlotte Carter' who did not sound at all educated, exists.   AVOID and IGNORE  !!!

    Alex,

I sense that you, like your "director", doesn't actually read what is put on this thread.

I said the she "did not sound at all educated", thats my opinion & maybe if you actually to take some time to understand the comments on here, you may well have very well educated staff, it doesn't help your cause if the business continues to work in unscrupulous ways.

There has been plenty of warning over the years, that the tactics PSCA international / Public Service Review ltd / Publicservice.co.uk / Publicserviceevents.co.uk are not welcome in the modern business place.

The sooner that your organisation ceases to be, the better for all.

A message to all of you on this site. I am a senior manager at a large financial services company who has been harassed (and I do not use that word lightly) - by representatives of both PSCA and GovNet.

I disagree with ALL of your tactics and the way that you are conducting yourself on this website is quite frankly disgusting.

BOTH of your businesses seem to have the moral outlook of streetwalkers. I have found a couple of good suppliers who I continue to use on a regular basis and I also run my own events and I would urge anybody who reads this to avoid ALL hard-sell/high-pressure events/advertising companies like the plague.

You give your whole industry a bad name, I am afraid. I would concentrate less on fighting with each other and more on your business model - hard sell on the telephone is not a long-term solution to building a sustainable business. I for one (and I have instructed all of my colleagues in a similar fashion) will never deal with ANY organisation that feels it necessary to telephone or e-mail me on 12 occasions in ONE day.

And I do wonder how all of those MPs and public sector workers feel having been quoted as part of this very juvenile exchange. I suggest you ALL grow up and use your time and energy more productively.

Don't you mean PSCA and GOVTODAY! Govnet have never been on this site.

It's like the A team v B team slagging each other off.

You're both as bad as each other, trained from the same school.

i'm sure the chap means GovNet, they pestered me for years, don't give either PSCA or GovNet the time of day.

PSCA are now trying to call me under the guise of publicservice.co.uk - guess what, me & probably 90% of the business world can see straight through you.

These calls are high pressure, try to elicit info on your business and are all aimed at getting you to buy into exhibition and meeting space. The callers are skilled, intelligent and very articulate. As others say on this useful site, the whole model rests on appearing to be working on behalf of government bodies. They use proximate terms, names and so on to give this impression but it is ultimately a scam.

    Terminate all calls.

Yes, one of the names to watch out for is oliver hamilton

All these reports ring true for us - weekly calls, use of our website to flatter us and show "expert" knowledge, hard sell, association with key government contacts

How can these calls be stopped?

Vague enquiries about "procurement" and "would it be better to speak to the Chief Executive?"

Why on earth do they think they're going to get put through to a CE?

    Annoying and time wasting.

We purchased some advertising form publicservice.co.uk and then came across this site. Feeling concerned, we rang in and attempted to cancel our order. We were told we could not cancel.

I am now aware that it our right to cancel any order within seven working days, and that we do not need to give a reason for cancelling - despite what we were told. I strongly advise any company who wish to cancel to be aware that publicservice will deliberatley try and mislead you about the cancellation procedure. Please also be aware that this seven day period is a basic right you have under English law and not an internal policy of theirs which they can use arbitrarily.

    Cheats, liars and self-appointed enforcers.

Hi, recently got a call on my mobile then on the company landline from Lucy Middleton.  Sounds very professional apart from the fact that the message left on the voicemail just left her name; dangling a carrot as if I knew her or that it was related to an earlier call.

As my RADAR was up I googled the name and number and was perhaps not surprised that it was a sales cold-call.  So far, I have not been bombarded with calls and I have no business with them so will just hang up.  The reason that I will do this is because I work hard to generate my own, resilient leads and do not expect a simple event attendance to answer all my sales ills.

Also, I am on the TPS already and am miffed that they called me in the first place.  It is in my mind connected with joining LinkedIn within the last few weeks and they are trawling this to get leads - untenable business model hopefully.
