These people must call me about 6 times a day.  I googled their number and I found that they
are PPI calls.    These people should be stopped.   This is not the only call I get. I get calls
all day long from pests and it is driving me mad!!

It stands to reason if something is urgent they will write to you, i was getting had at least 6 calls a day from different people all trying to sell me iether ppi or loans etc for about 5 weeks, so tell family and friends to use mobile only to call you and only use landline phone for outgoing calls. Put an answer machine on your landline, and check it after and write the numbers down if there is one, which is what i did and never call them back. I only get one or 2 a week now and they will soon give up, they only pick up if you pick up and if you do your number will remain on a datebase for others.

I find it very strange that I managed to knock all the sales calls on the head by different measures some paid for some not...

Over this last couple of days (18 to 21 June) I have given my mobile and land libe out to Argos to arrange a delivery and Carphone Warehouse to have my Nokia Fixed.

Since this I have been bombarded with text messages from PPI to Loans to Lottobytext.
including calls from this number who always call my landline first and then my mobile straight after.

How many times do I have to tell these people I have never taken out a loan no-one owes me money in PPI or Bank Charges, and my Job is a Debt Councillor who provides FREE PPI / Bank Charge Claims and Debt Advice through a Council Funded Project.

These a***holes have got my mobile number but I don't often switch it on and never return a missed call unless I know who it is. I actually answered last week while walking the dogs in the rain. They asked for someone else whose name I did not know. When I said sorry wrong number they tried to sell me insurance. I told them forcefully not to call again. The lady was polite and apologised but the computer still calls me. I agree it has got out of hand, particularly the calls which hang up when you answer, which really spooks my wife.

welsh woman on my call, who i promptly told to "$%^& off" (nothing against the welsh - i support cardiff devils) after which i had two calls in quick succession. The 2nd call i was more polite just saying i was on an unlisted number and legal action would be taken, 3rd call I took and said absolutely nothing,,was quite funny hearing them say "hello?, hello?". In the end i phoned them back and told them that if they phoned me again i would find out who there directors were and would phone them at 3 or 4 in the morning...would be interesting to see what happens next as i have done this before.

I had the same experience ..told the first caller to %^&* off, and promptly had two more calls. Simply threaten to find out who the company directors are and telephone them at 3 or 4 in the morning.  It is a criminal offence to register false details.  After I said this there were no further calls.

Got a call from these on my mobile and rang back thinking it was a mate (new phone).  It cost me 76p even though I have 200+ mins call time, so its a premium line.  Its a scam.  they get money either way.  Trying to complain to orange, see where I get.

Got a call from this number and the man would not listen to me as I said I was not interested and to take my number off the list. But again would not listen to me and kept going with his talk on how I can claim on my PPI. AVOID this call they will keep going until you listen to them or put the phone down!!!

had a call from this number today did not answer as did not recognise it , so I checked on here to find that once again it is one of these ppi claim companies . I've now labelled it as 'nuisance caller' so if it rings again I reject it . After seeing Panarama last night re these type of calls isn't there any way they can be charged as harassment and get them stopped . My number is ex directory so how to they get it in the first place. There needs to be some legislation or law introduced to outlaw these companies.

Seems to me that you must work for this company or a similar type of business.   It does not matter whether they are genuine and/or doing the decent thing.  The problem is that they are somehow getting hold of peoples details, be it through a company like Experian or some other business that has had dealing with you, and/or just cold calling on the off-chance of drumming some business.  No PPI claim business is supported financially by the Ministry Of Justice, and any company dealing with PPI reclaims that claims they are supported by the MOJ are in fact lying.  You can be registered for this type of business by the MOJ, but never funded by them.

Any reputable company will register with and honour the TPS list and not call you if you are registered with TPS as not wanting these calls.  The TPS know that this happens, but they are powerless to do anything themselves as they only supply the list of numbers not wishing to be contacted.

The only way that these scumbags, who never seem to understand that 'no' means 'NO', is to comtact OFTEL, and if that does not get anywhere, then a letter to the Data Protection Registrar might give them a kick up the ass.

All you can do is contact your telephone company and see if they can help by you paying a fee for a system called 'Choose to Refuse'  This allows you to block up to 12 numbers, and whilst there is a cost involved, it can save a lot of headaches in the long run.  At the same time, put pressure on the communications authorities for something to be done against these idiots.  The government will not do anything directly as this is a conservative government, and they will not want to stamp out private enterprises, as the private sector is the only sector where they can place all the people made redundant by cuts to local and national services.  Seems we are back to the days of the Iron Maiden - Maggie Thatcher.

Until these people in authority have the balls to take these [***] to task, in particular their total lack of professional respect of the TPS register, these calls will keep on happening.

One other suggestion, and I have tried it and it works - get a load whistle and when these scumbags ring, blow the whistle down the mouthpiece of the phone at them.  They soon get the message.

At one time, I was getting 15 or more calls from different telephone canvassers per day.  Got the whistle, and now am lucky, or unlucky if I get 1 call of this type per week.  Only thing to be aware of, is that it is not the fault of the person calling you, it is the fault of the management of the company for which the caller works for.

Rhian, if as you say, the banks would not listen to you, then you failed to quote the law to them properly.  If you go in to your bank, or the bank/credit card company that you had the PPI from, and quote the law at them, they bend to your way of thinking immediately, and you don't have to lose the interest, which you do if the PPI claim company get the money back for you - it is simply a case of knowing the law and explaining the letter of the law.  Why else do you think the banks put so much money aside the last 2 years.  It is because they knew they were going to have to pay out all this money, and it should all be yours, including the interest.  Why should some idiot, that probably writes a total of 3 letters, 2 to you and one to the bank/credit card company that held your PPI.  For that, they get perhaps £500' for 2 hours maximum work.
