Yep - I just got the call. 1471 didnt show this number but it was apparently "Paul from UPI" so I checked the UPI website (a few static html pages banged up there) and the address led me to here (god I love this website).

Anyway it must be tied to (using information from) older scams or cold calls because they are using whatever information has been gathered on people so far. So some people here they know their names. With some people they know who they have banked with. It depends how much you gave them last time before you hung up. If you confirmed you use vodafone or orange then this time (from other numbers on this website) they will probably say there is an issue with your vodafone bill with your bank etc. Se each time they have a little more on you they can wait a few months, phone up again being a little more convincing (from some other company) and extract something else about you.

With me I have never given my name or which bank to any of them so when they called me the only thing they could confirm was my telephone number. Then they asked me to give over my name at which point I go through the dance with them to see how long before they get rude and hang up on me.

This one actually lasted about 3 minutes thinking he was convincing me that I am only giving my name and address so he can send the forms on. He said the ususal - I guess you dont want free money then - kind of a comment and then hung up.

I just thought I would record it here for others to find,

    Cheers,

    Heccy.

I see someone else in this thread has had a call from "British Lifestyle Survey." Caller admitted company was registered in the Philippines and he was calling from India but refused to give me a company address or phone number. He knew about TPS and at that point got out of the call. Anyone know what these lot are about? I think they've been calling me several times a week at the same time but using different IDs. I've gone several years relatively hassle free but now it's going bananas.

my boyfriend had a call from Relliance Cover Ltd asking to confirm his bank details in order to get bank charges back. The same story as many here just the name of the company is different. He was naive enough to give his details to them and straight after the call, when he realised, he cancelled his card. Unfortunately it was too late, he was charged £49.99 and then again £9.99. We also received some documents which look really rubbish. The return address is in Wales again. He rang them back using the helpline number given on the letter from them and some lady answered. She said to sent papers back in order to get his money back. We are posting them out today but we don't believe we will get any money back, to be honest.

Very amusing but I did give them SOME details - things which are very easy to obtain anyway.  They claimed I'd been specially selected to receive a free laptop under the UK "get the UK connected to everyone" scheme.  All I had to do to receive my free laptop was confirm my name, address and DHL would deliver my laptop.  Oh, hang on, even though it's free, DHL are charging a courier fee of £9.90.  Would I be able to supply my bank and card details?  I said, it's ok, I've paid DHL COD or even used my card to pay them on delivery but of course this wasn't  the way THIS company operated - they've got a very good relationship with DHL and this is the agreement they've come up with.  After being adamant I will pay the courier on delivery, the caller (Indian accent) said he will talk to his supervisor and call me back to see if this was possible. Looks like I'm not getting my free lap top after all :((((
