Today 16.10.08 phoned twice by 01922 420057 ,its a call centre trying to sell insurance for water , gas.  When I answered, line went dead,  I have found out this is a company Called Home Serve, as I am member of TPS , surely they should not be phoning me, so if enough of us report them , maybe something will be done.

I reported them to Ofcom a couple of weeks ago for making silent calls. I hope others will.

dreadful company who won't take No for an answer. Tell them to stop calling you as you find it distressing, warn them if they continue they will be committing harassment. An offence!

It is homeserve, They just keep calling & I've been cancelling our policies with them one by one as the policies come up for renewal this year. We had 3 policies with them & will cancel the final one when it is up for renewal this Dec.

Ofcom sent me their official complaints form. I have completed it and returned it.

    Investigation will commence soon hopefully.

They ring, say nothing (even when on answer phone!) then hang up if I start to speak. Interesting that number has been linked to Homeserve. I have taken out water supply pipe cover with Anglianwater Direct in last month and Homeserve are the administrators of the policy

Oh dear Julie, I suggest you try and cancel it asap.

Read through the previous 12 pages of complaints regarding Homeserve's business practices and you'll see why.

    Good luck.

I was visiting a friend on Monday. At least three calls came from this number while I was there. When the phone rang the first time, she told me that she had given up answering them as there was 'never anyone on the other end'. My friend is physically handicapped and often has to struggle to even pick up the phone.

I answered the phone myself and for the three calls I answered, NOTHING happened. NO recorded message, NOTHING. My friend told me that these calls had been happening for the previous several months. She does not have internet access.

At that point I got out my laptop and connected to the internet via mobile broadband to search for this number - and, as you can see, found this site along with information on this number.

Later in the day, while I was cooking a meal for my friend, another call was received from this number. I answered it and, amazingly, a person was on the other end. I informed this person that the number being called must be taken off the database immediately and that any further calls would be treated as harassment and Ofcom would be informed. All the agent would say was 'can I ask you ...??' My immediate response - NO I will not answer any questions until I have confirmation that the number you are calling will be taken off your company's database.

I never received this confirmation from 'Aisha', the agent concerned.

Yesterday evening my friend received another call from this number; there was nothing but the dial tone when she picked the phone up.

Ofcom is our next port of call.

Thanks for the information from everyone on this site.

Further to my previous post, we decided to 'give them a chance' and so at my friend's request, I emailed Homeserve through their website, giving a summary of the problem (silent calls, no ID, etc). Shortly after I had sent the email, my friend received YET ANOTHER call from Homeserve. On checking my email recently, I found a reply from Homeserve which is merely demanding further personal information before being able to 'action the request'.

This is arrant - and arrogant, rude - nonsense. A complaint has been sent to Ofcom now, regarding the illegal practice of repeated silent calls with no identifying recording attached, and a further email to Homeserve explaining in simple terms that my earlier email was not a request, but an instruction.

    Thanks for that, Rita.

I keep in close contact with my friend and if there is even the hint of any further irritation from this bunch of shysters, I will contact Mr Harpin (Harpic, Hairpin??? LOL!!).

The reason you were asked to provide further information is so that the details can actually be removed. If you do not provide the info then it is impossible for us to do what you wish. Just because you email does not mean we are physic and can know who you are.
2 choices - provide the info that was asked for and the deatils will be remove or dont provide it and nothing will be done.
If you dont give the info and the calls continue then im afraid to say you dont have a leg to stand on as you have decided not to provide the info requested. Therefore Ofcom or anybody else will not be able to do anything as it is YOU that has decided not to pursue the matter.
Reply to the email and trust me, the details will be taken off the database.

    Calandra,

Take no notice of the pillocks from Homeserve above. They are obviously very junior members of staff, not very bright, being paid the National Minumum Wage and also possibly fearing for their jobs.

I can assure you that you DO have the law on YOUR side.

It is illegal for anyone to make excessive silent or abandoned calls to members of the general public and Barclaycard have just been fined £50,000 for a similar activity. More info can be found by "clicking" here:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7637419.stm

Good luck with getting rid of the cowboys.

Who the hell is 'me'?!!  If no one 'moaned' (as you so "intelligently" put it) on this website, how would we know who was calling?!  Ok so we go out and, under your instruction, 'have a drink' ( :S does someone have a problem...?)and tell all our family and friends about it, blah blah blah.  What's to say they know who it is?  So we're still stuck.  That is WHY WE HAVE THESE WEBSITES.

And for your information, I don't have insurance AND have asked people not to pass on my information.  IT STILL HAPPENS.  These people are still calling and not being there.  I don't care about needing to pass on information.  THEY SHOULDN'T DO IT.  AND, as you can see, some people have even emailed or written to homeserve and are STILL being called.  Don't judge what you know f**k all about.

And thank you Ron - YOUR posts, in contrast, are extremely helpful.  And your retaliation is epic.  :)

And homeserve employees, stop trying to be all 'holier-than-thou'.  Nobody cares.  Nobody likes you.  Cold-calling sucks :)

Homeserve employee - takes one to know one. Snotty cows, I mean.

Gosh. you must be really, REALLY STUPID to not realise that the Homeserve Employee to whom I spoke was of course well aware of the number to which she was connected and the name of the occupier. But maybe you've not 'graduated' to such a high status so far.

You must be even more stupid to think that in the email I sent, I would have omitted to mention the number to which I instruct them to cease making calls. But that's probably the sort of thing you'd do, so felt it incumbent to remind me.

Never fear, coryzal bovine, I am only too well aware of the technical aspects of the industry; it is the same everywhere in the world (except maybe North Korea).

I just needed updating on the legal aspects.

Oh, and by the way, I will instruct whoever I like, whenever I like. Homeserve's customer service - such as it is - has gone far beyond the reach of a polite request.
