I live not far away from the building that Homeserve are based in.  I also know people who currently work there and people who have left.  Firstly, it IS a legitimate business, but unfortunately, it has questionable telephone practices.  Believe me when I say I have no personal connection to this company, I don't even have a policy with them, but I know plenty of people who have.  They sell legitimate household insurance policies.

Unfortunately, due to my insider knowledge from friends who have worked there, I do know that they have a massive call centre with an autodialler that deals out too many calls for the staff to deal with.  I've also heard that, allegedly, some staff use cold calls to sell policies to the elderly and vulnerable, knowing that morally, this probably isn't the best thing to do.  This is supposedly tolerated and ignored by senior staff members.

So, there you go - it is definitely NOT an identity theft operation, but they will remove your details if you call them and ask them to do so.  Be sure to take a name in case you are contacted again to ensure that the relevant person gets into trouble for not removing your details.

It seems from this thread, that so many people have reported them for their illegal practices, it shouldn't be too long before we read about Homeserve in the press.

I am sick these harassing chancers are not shut down. Is there nothing OFCOM will do?
ANSWER:
No they are in it with them. Probably someone ( a politician ) taking backhanders off them to ignore public anger. As they do with many of the highly suspect 'insurance' and 'finacial' businesses who use the phone and internet much as organised crime does.

We've had this number calling recently. It's rang here around 6 or 7 times today. I just Googled the number and this site came up!

OMG stop ringing you bunch of idiots!!!! every night at the same time they ring n dont say anything - is there anything we can do to stop this?! its soo annoying!!!

There was no one at the other end, total silence. This is the second time in two days but there have been a few times before.

Some time ago, I was successful in speaking to a Homeserve caller and told him WE WERE NOT INTERESTED.
SURELY ONCE IS ENOUGH!

My wife and I just play my son's Noddy tapes to them, it makes for quite good listening...

They try to tell you that they will start a contract for you and send you the info in the post and that you have 14 days to cancel if you don't want it, if you say no then they insist on still sending the contract.  I have found the best way to get rid of them is to say that your partner has already taken out a contract with them.... they will believe you & not call again.

Unfortunately I signed up for their basic water cover, in partnership with local water company. I've had phone calls ever since asking if I want other types of cover. They even sent me a letter saying my cover was about to run out when in fact it had just commenced! I've just had another call and in no uncertain terms told the guy to stop calling me unsolicited, and to contact me only by letter for my existing cover only, which I will not be renewing.

why don't they take the hint and stop pestering people. They phone constantly, even though we've already said we don't want any more cover from them.
I'd like their home phone no's so I can harass them! We are registered with tps but it seems to make no difference.

We are on the TPS too and are irritated to have been called.

Ringing me continually, will ring them back and tell them what to do in no uncertain terms

Call several times a day.  Totally unsolicited.  V. Annoying!

6 non-messages clogging up my answering machine.  Annoying.  If it's a company trying to sell anything I automatically go elsewhere.
