I have just has a call from this number. The man said he had heard that I was getting a lot of unwanted calls and that he could give my higher protection from them. When asked how he knew he said there were a lot of complaints from people with our code. I told him we did not get many nuisance calls except from one company and he put the phone down.
Didn't catch his name or the name of his company

Telecom Protection Service.  These shysters have just conned my elderly mother-in-law out of £79.99 for this crappy little device.   I told her that she should NEVER buy anything from anyone who cold calls, to which she said "but I'd just had a nuisance call 10 minutes before they called me and said 'we understand you are getting a lot of unwanted calls'".   Hmm, wonder who was bombarding her with nuisance calls just prior to this lot trying to sell her the device then?  They are clearly preying on elderly and vulnerable people and ripping them off. We will investigate whether we have some recourse to the law and do whatever we can against these unscrupulous con artists.

A polite chap called Alex said he was aware I had been receiving unsolicited calls. His company was supposedly able to provide a call-blocking device to eliminate silent and international calls, an upgrade to the standard TPS for a low weekly payment equating to a one off payment of £99.99. He quoted their premium rate customer services number of 08719891414 and said their was a cooling off period. He asked if I wanted to pay by Visa or MasterCard, at which point I said I would give it some thought and ring back on their number if I decided to proceed. He said "okay" and we brought the call to an end. As this was in itself an unsolicited call asking for money, I am not convinced it was genuine.

This number can be blocked using BT's Choose to Refuse feature in their Phone Line Rental package.   It works for most calls except the sneaky overseas callers.   It's £3-90 a month & worth every penny!!   Thanks to previous contributors, there is now another one on the barred list!!

    Hi Mike,
My mum has had the same experience.  Did you establish any way of getting the money back or if it is worth writing to get the £79 back?
    Thanks

A girl called Jade blagged she'd been asked to ring later due to the kids she heard in the background. Tried to sell me a device that would cost 25 quid a year to stop nuisance calls. Have worked as a proper telesales rep when I was a kid and this bunch of amateurs didn't have a chance. What really annoyed was that she just hung up on me. When you 14713 it, it's a bogus msg about not being in service. Anything else I can do for revenge?

We sent the unit back (registered delivery) with a covering letter, no joy so far.  Have spoken with Citizens Advice Bureau who advise us that by returning it within 7 days we are entitled to a refund.  My wife is on the 'phone to them chasing them up as we speak. They are not making it easy (unsurprisingly).

Well according to the Telecom Protection Service UK laws of consumer rights don't apply to them.  We're still fighting... Do not under any circumstances do business with these rip-off merchants.

Call this morning, plausible, cos I emailed TPS a few days ago about cold calls re phoney accident claim. 'Your wife suggested i speak to you because you've been having some nuisance calls, and we're ringing back from the TPS to follow that up and do something about it. We can not only reinforce your preferences but offer you a way to block silent call snad overseas calls too'. By that stage I though 'scam', told the guy so and hung up. Pretty good line of patter, though the accent was a bit wide-boy. I think this is appalling that they're preying on vulnerable people and conning them into buying worthless kit. If they're not actually saying they are the Telephone preference Service, they're doing pretty well everything but and in my book that ought to be illegal. Whatever, it's a heartless and cynical exploit.

Not sneaky at all they are actually called the TELECOM PROTECTION SERVICE so all of you on here are wrong.... and if you actually gave them just 2 minutes of your time you would all realize they are not a nuisance call at all and they are actually there to help bring peace back to your land line, they actually work in - conjunction with all the major telephone providers to stop these calls and they can actually put a stop to 100% of these calls so maybe you should all either give them just 2 minutes of you time or ask them questions over the phone instead of posting rubbish about them on here.

Several calls from this number but nobody speaks. Got the number by dialling 1471. Reading other comments obviously not genuine.

Nice try Jason.  Do you work on the phones at TPS or are you just the web monkey who tries to make your scamming company sound plausible?

    Jason,

The Telecom Protection Service has a Domain (.co.uk type) which - according to Nominet - is registered to "Paul Wyman a UK Non-Trading individual".      It is my intention to make a report to Nominet as that appears to be false information based on what you have been saying.      Would you care to make a helpful comment before I get round to doing that, please?

Perhaps he's a slow reader.  He is obviously slow witted if he could not understand my previous post when I said that calling themselves TPS was sneaky.  Must think that using a name which closely mimics a legitimate organisation is o.k.
