well i pressed 9 to tell them to get F***ED and the person slammed the phone down.. so maybe it's not a premium cost call if you press 9, if it where i think they would try to keep me on the line?!

Could they be debt chasers, trying to determine who lives at the address?

For a start it is an urban myth that you can be charged any money by pressing 9.  There is no way this can happen.

I did complain to the ICO but they just replied saying they cannot trace the company. :-(

I had this call today (and a while ago also). I am ex directory and on the preferred list as many other seem to be too. Any idea who it is? or what the scam is?

"Won Carribean Holiday". Hung up. dialled 1471 - voice said "thank you", hope that doesn't cost me!

If everyone keeps on ringing them to tell them that they've won a holiday, they might get as pissed off as us.

They rang me 17:30 23.12.10 - recorded message started playing, I put the phone down but they were still there a few minutes later - couldn't use the phone!

Just wanted to respond here on behalf of Simwood.

This number is indeed allocated to us by OFCOM but is not allocated to any customer. The calls you are receiving are faking this number and we have no part in making or carrying these calls.

If you report this to your phone company they will contact us and we can direct them to whichever phone company originated the call to them and work it back that way. Unfortunately as this is not being done by one of our customers we are powerless to intervene otherwise.

To clarify, the number is being falsified by whoever is calling and it could be anybody's number. It just so happens it is one of ours which is not in service.

I have had many calls from this number although I am on TPS and exdirectory.  I have traced it to SImwood.  I tried to call the number but it has been continuously engaged.  I have spoken to BT about the cloning of the number,  the person I spoke to thought it to be impossible.

We have now put a recorded message on that number explaining how it is being falsified. We believe these calls originate overseas and if anyone can provide information on where from we will take action to prevent them. They are misleading and annoying consumers and wrongly tarnishing our name.

I'm with tps but these calls take no notice of that. What can I do? do they charge?

Thanks for the clarification, and I have checked your message is on the number which is causing the  problem. I have had the same Americian woman from an untracible number (I presume from abroad).  My main problem is my wife is in a wheelchair and has great difficulty in getting to the phone when I am not about

i got a call from this number but don't know who it is, it has rung the house phone at least 7 times.

OMG I've won a Caribbean cruise! what a shame i missed the call! /sarcasm

Had my first message at 1545 today, which I am pleased to say was cut off in 3 seconds so all I heard was "congratulations".  Thanks go to other posters for confirming through their earlier messages I made the right decision.  This is the first call of this sort I have had for some months after trying everything I could to stop them.  Looks as if there may be a repeat performance ahead.

Received a call today from 02030 265001.

Saying Congratulations. I hung up immediately and then called number back. Told by a recorded message that this number has never been allocated and nothing SImwood could do about it.............Simwood?

I have received three calls from this pesky number now. Have reported them to the TPS.

great idea, i'm going to ring them repeatedly, maybe i can snarl up their switchboard
