just had a call from this company had an indian guy trying to tell me that there are computer viruses on my computer bearing in mind that
1 I have an unregistered number with bt I am exdirectory
2 Part of the telephone preference service for the last 2 years
3 I work for a phone company in tec support
4 Ran my own pc business building pc's and installing windows since the days of windows 95
5 Have just reinstalled windows on all the pc's in tha house as a standard practice
6 Have Genuine licences for all my microsoft software ( sad i know)
7 Have fully up todate antivirus spybot and addaware on all my pc's
I can safely say that there is no unwanted viruses in my house on any of my equipment and that this call is a load of tosh to get unsuspecting gulible people to part with cash for someone to fix something that is not wrong in the first place

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY BANK DETAILS AT ALL IT IS AN UNSOLICITED CALL AND IF YOU ARE WORIED TAKE IT TO A LOCAL COMPUTER GUY WHO CAN HAVE A LOOK FOR ABOUT £30

If you want to speed your computer up then click start type msconfig click startup click disable all and then turn the anti virus and firewall software back on once you have rebooted your computer it will be faster if you dont like the changes the msconfig again and turn it all back on again (you can have that one for free)

if you have any worries about you computer see someone face to face NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER  turn of your firewall

Yes, U r right, they are based in India . Online PC genius,PC masters all are fake. I am a IT engineer and I request you all that first of all do not answer their questions and if they insist, call police but do not give the access. They is no place at 429 kensington High Street. That is a way to take money from your pockets. There is nothing like error reports and warning messages, when the application hangs and stops working, it will that error which they will show you as virus. So, I request you all THAT DO NOT GIVE ACCESS TO ANYBODY WHO CALLS YOU OVER THE PHONE.

I received call from gabrielle at online pc genius whom also told me I had a Trojan virus and wanted me to turn on computer. I tried to follow her prompts but became a bit stuck when the things she was asking me to access were not on my computer, she then asked what computer I was using. I replied with a courteous Apple IPad, to which she told me she could not help me and slammed the phone down on me!  Obviously she cannot hack an iPad lol.

    !!Warning!!!!!!!

Do not!!!! And I repeat do not!!! Let them fool you!!! I fix PC'x for a living and these are scams!!! If you don't know anything about PC's then ask a family member if you have an issue!! Do not install a program called "TeamViewer"
Unless it's with someone you know!!! They will scan your PC and steal ur details from you!!

Why the government and the IPs haven't blocked these [***] by now is beyond me??? I come into so many people that have a very very basic knowledge of PC's and these sharks love it!!

If you are stuck I will offer advice but that's all! I can offer you direction of do's and don'ts! But I will not ask you to install any software or tell you that you have a virus!!! Unless you do have one!!

If you get a phone call from these [***] ask which company they are from and ask for a landline number! I bet they can't offer you the number..!!
They called me months and months ago some Indian fella stating I had been subject to a malware attack oh I loved taking him up the garden path! I switched on my PC and pretended to be a noob what he didn't know what that I had opened a Word document up and uppercased and as big as I could and typed in the words fu**you scaming [***]! These guys are very persistent. I've had a few calls -  all from gentlemen with English names saying they are calling me from London, but with very strong Indian accents and on very bad telephone lines. They claimed they could fix my PC so that it would never ever be contaminated by viruses again, and also claimed they were not tryng to sell me anything. So -  lifetime guarantees for free!?   I've been in IT for 20 years so strung them along for a while to waste their time, as they seemed happy to waste mine. Their claims are simply crazy. They eventually went away when I told them that there was no way I was ever going to give access to my PC to someone I didn't know and didn't trust. I think many of the previous contributions to this site make it very clear -  don't even think about giving these guys (or anyone you can't see or touch!) access to your PC.

For those reading this site as to the legitimacy of this company:

This company cold calls customers offering to fix people's computers; to remove virus's etc that legitimate anti virus companies (Symantec/McAfee) are seemingly unable to detect for a nominal fee or free of charge.

They claim to have detected this on your PC themselves. They cannot. The only way they could have detected any illegitimate software is with their own illegitimate software that a user may have inadvertently installed.

Before installing any software always Google it, ask a family member or someone you trust, or call your local PC store/workshop. If they haven't heard of it, chances are it is malware.

It seems they also have at least one person employed to search for themselves on Google and other search engines and leave messages on sites such as these claiming that these calls are not a scam and that they have fixed their computer and are now very happy.

Watch for poor English, "£" signs in the wrong place and other currency signs in lieu of the "£". Also watch for finishing phrases such as "May god bless them", as 99% of true responses will not contain these kind of phrases.

If you receive a call, letter, email or any kind of correspondence from anyone, be it about your computer or someone claiming to be your bank, always say you will find their number and call them back BEFORE supplying any personal information and/or purchasing any product. Immediately run a search via a search engine such as Google for the company, and once 100% certain you have the correct website and telephone number, call them back and ask them about the call.

    In Summary:

    1. Always Google the name of a company/software before you hand out any money or personal information.

    2. Read all the posts in a forum thread thoroughly and garner as much information as you can. Check to see if many posts contain similar phrases, spelling errors or terminology as these may have been written by the same person under a different name.

3.Never give any money or information to anyone who calls you. Find their number yourself and call them back. it is the only way to be sure you are speaking to the correct company.

    4. Always speak to someone you trust, be it a friend, family member, or large corporation you have contacted yourself (i.e. Symantec)

    5. Always take everything you read on the internet with a pinch of salt. The veil of anonymity that the internet and forums provide is not always such a good thing.

If you are unsure about this company, or you have read this and have a similar issue please reply to me here. I have this thread bookmarked and will try to respond as often as I can.

Could it possibly be that you work for this bunch of [***]?  Perhaps you could suggest a way of calling and harassing THEM?  Your several grammatical and spelling errors give you away.  May the Lord rain down fire on their heads, incinerating every one in the building, slowly and horribly.

A week or so ago an Indian gentleman rang the care home where I work and announced himself to an elderly resident as being from Online PC Genius. Our 83-year-old resident was on the communal computer at the time and became so agitated by the Indian voice suggesting that there was a problem with the computer that our elderly resident felt the fault was of his own making. As a result he suffered a seizure and had to be hospitalized. Thankfully he survived, but companies such as Online PC Genius prey on the elderly and technophobes in our community and should be outlawed. TAKE MY ADVICE AND PUT THE PHONE DOWN ON THEM.

And all these comments saying it's real are also FAKE!! just ask them to tell you about there company and what server it is that your pc is sending errors to, they have no idea

OMG!!! The exact same thing. I had a call from a man called Joshua Joe with an Indian accent telling me that they were receiving messages that my computer was very faulty and had lots of viruses on it and that they would repair  my computer. He said he was phoning from Online PC Genius. He asked me if I would follow his instructions and key them into my computer. He then proceeded telling me to go into my computer, then systems, then team viewer. He then wanted me to go into remote access.Which i did with Timeviewer, a piece of software id never heard of. I followed all of his instructions despite a pounding heart and repeated questioning regarding who he was and the authenticity of his company. I freaked out when i saw him remotely operating my computer and to relay my fears he wrote his full name, address, company telephone number into notepad and passed me on to his supervisor Rachel.  I had difficulty understanding him and following any of his instructions because his english wasn't great. To be honest, from the moment i spoke to him, it immediately made me suspicious.
His supervisor give her name as Rachel Thompson, and although she spoke with an asian accent. Her English was very good and she was a lot brighter than the man.She assured me it wasn't a scam but strangley kept dropping the price of the cost of the software the company was offering. I didn't take any of it up, as was so freaked out at them being able to operate my computer, The 3 pieces of software started at £89.90 but because I was told they were initially going to do it for free, (Haha..) she  dropped it too £69.00 including VAT. I didn't purchase any of it as was so worried that it was one almighty scam. I can't believe they've been able to view all my files, get into my computer and remotely access all my information. I now don't feel it's safe and will be taking it into work to update all of its security. But this will not relay my fears that someone has been able to remotely access my computer and possibly download, and be privy too private and confidential information. I've learned a very hard lesson.

I have just had a call from Online PC Genius. What a scam. I'm looking after my friends house but they still wanted me to go on the PC so I could connect them up. They asked me if I was my friends husband at first, but sadly he died 4 years ago. Then proceeded to say that I would be a great friend if it was all sorted when she got back off her holiday. All Lies.
