- julie| 4 repliesbe very aware they called me on my works number and wanted access telling me of a repeated virus warning passed from microsoft kept questioning them for more info the female then transferred me to a male calling himself 'andy smith' indian accent, asked them for there number to check them out first!!!
- Andy| 2 repliesThis is a bogus company and are not linked to Microsoft. I have just had a client drop a laptop in who has just had this phone call.
What they try and do is get access to your system and then let you know that it is infected. They then offer to repair this by selling you software that they supply. Again this is all bogus information.
Questions you should ask your self.
How do they know if my system is infected?
What are they really after?
I advise
never to let anyone on to your system unless you have contacted them and asked for it.
that you contact the police who love this sort of thing
Call your bank and let them know what has happened. They will then keep an eye on your account and may advise you to change your cards
Have a known IT company check your system over to put your mind at rest.- Caller: computer maintenance service

- SeanMy wife has just been ‘duped’ by this hack/scam. They called themselves ‘Advanced Window Care service’, told her they had noticed our PC had many viruses on it.
Not being very ‘IT aware’, and the fact she had just been browsing the net, she was taken in by the timing, apparent knowledge of our PC and ability to panic unsuspecting people. A foreign lady caller told her to run 'EVENTVWR' from start/run. This off course brings up the standard XP event viewer. hear you can almost always find some warning icons/notes due to underlying, but generally unimportant system errors/failures. They used this to convince her that the PC was in a terrible and vulnerable state (well it was just about to be anyway!).
Obviously they hadn't really seen the data/status of our PC (yet!), but used their knowledge of XP to persuade my wife to browse IE to ‘www.logmein123.com’. Then it all started. ‘AWCsetup.exe’ was downloaded and a ‘iobit.com’ piece of s/w was use to remotely manage my pc, another male technician then took over and started to scan the PC, and talked about major problems with the machine... yeh they were on it!
After about 20 mins, then came the sales pitch, and the offer to fix/protect for annual fee of £50? At this point my wife stopped panicking and started thinking, refusing this offer and not giving any personal details away. She then called my son into the room and he intervened by pulling the plug on the internet. She told the caller to call back when I was at home, and they gave her this number (02032870117).
She called me at work and i told her to inform the banks.... no probs so far.
When I got home i set about checking the pc and running various scan, resetting the restore point to 24hrs earlier. I also called my CC Company... again no probs so far.
I then called the tel. number given, but they'd gone home. Probably to count the money from others they had scammed.
i will now will probably have to re-build my PC :-(

I was told the website addres was techonsupport.com, they have not confirmed that the number is there's or not ( I sent 2 emails with no reply. The domain name is register to an Indian compnay. However we do not know if this is the correct info.

- scamkiller replies to julie| 2 repliesI had Mark and Damian on the line offering to cure all of my problems. They are clearly fake and not to be trusted. I am pleased to say that I had them call me several times and I really gave them the runaround during which time they were not able to scam anyone who might have been taken in.

- JCHi there, thanks to this forum i managed to hang up unscathed, i think. Calling from the same number i spoke to a guy 'Oscar' (the supervisor) who would not give me an address. I managed to stall him long enough until we found out a bit about this "Computer maintenance services". He was trying to guide me to the "Prefetch" folder to "direct me to the infected files we have downloaded", also directing me to the "Events Viewer" which, in reading a previous post "sometimes show generally unimportant system errors/failures".
Anyway thanks and hopefully few more will be sucked in. Im glad i was so untrusting.
JC - RonI have taken to ingoring international calls and it is only when I answer a call on a phone without a caller display that I end up dealing with an unwanted sales pitch or simmilar.
I had a call from a person who was very difficult to understand this morning. There was an insistance that I had some sort of bother with my PC and that I needed the help of "COMPUTER MAINTENANCE SERVICES". I said that I was not prepared to deal with an unsolicited call but was put through to a supervisor, Mr Alan Scott who spoke with a acent that seemed to be non-British. He insisted that everything was legitimate and that I could ring him back quoting ref. CM/86001.
I said that I would but of course I have not done so and I have no intention of doing so.- Caller: COMPUTER MAINTENANCE SERVICES

- LesleyI had a call from 'Computer Maintance Service' Yesterday. The woman who did not have a British accent told me to go to my computer straight away and turn it on as I had a problem with it. I asked how she knew I had a problem with my computer when I didn't know I had a problem. She said I must do it or it would slow my computer down more and more each day. I again asked who the company was as I found it difficult to understand her accent at times. She was very insitant that I turn my computer on and said they were working for Micro Soft Windows. I told her that I was not going to turn my compter on and that I had no time talk to her. She then passed the call to a man who I assume was her 'supervior'. I said I had no time and for him to give me the phone number and I would call back at a more convient time. He gave me the number of 02032870117 and told me to ask for Jennifer Ringet (well thats what it sounded like I did ask him to spell the name but he didn't)
