A woman with an almost unintelligible asian accent, calling herself Jenny, made comments that my computer was contaminated with something and required me to use the "windows" key (between Ctrl and Alt) in conjunction with "R", then type "prefetch" in the "run" window which appeared. I had great difficulty in understanding her accent so I didn't comply. She was very persistent and rang back numerous times until I shouted for her to get off the line. Luckily I didn't follow any instructions. The calls were received on 4 August 2010 between 1330 and 1340.

- ElaineI recieved a call at 11:30 today, 09.08.10 caller Id - International, as my daughter was abroad at the time I answered, an Indian gentleman said he was from Microsoft and my computer had been sending error reports to them, possible hacker trying to get my details, I advised that I had computer protection and my scans showed no viruses, he was insistent asking me to log on while he could show me the errors, I was suspicious and refused asking him for his number to call back he gave his name as Roger Watson and gave the number 02032870117, I checked this out and found sites advising that Microsoft do not telephone people, I tried the number and it seemed as though it rang out several times then went straight to the engaged tone, I have just got through and they say they are a Microsoft help desk, again it seemed to be coming from a call centre in India, the receptionist spoke with an Indian accent.
Are these people ligitimate or is this a scam!!!- Caller: My help windows
- Bryn Tirion replies to Oliver whiteI have had about 7 calls from these people in the last two months. My friend who lives 50 miles away also has had the same calls? I wondered where they get our phone numbers from? We both use Skype telephones, could this be the common denominator. Has anyone who does not have a PC been contacted by them? Next time they ring I will do a 1471 to find out if it is the same number they give to me. They are very pushy and persistant.
- Bryn TirionI had another call this morning from the same people. They withheld their number. They said they are official Technical Support for Microsoft. "Let us into your PC to repair it". I have told them to call back later this afternoon. I would like to know who I can contact to report this Company?
I would never trust unsolicited phone calls to allow access to my PC.- Caller: tech my PC??
- P=ssed offThis person(?) company have attempted to contact me several times but have only spoke to me twice telling me my p.c. had a serious windows problem and that he was an approved Microsoft engineer. Lied about how he got my phone number and details of any problem my p.c. had. I have not had my p.c. for some time and it was actually at an IT company having worked done on it anyway. Pestered a few more times after I told him my exact thoughts and where he could shove his expert help.
- Caller: Techmyhelp (?) or Takemyhelp
- GuestChrisI just had a call from this a scammer. An Indian-sounding man said he was calling me as he had information that my computer had downloaded unwanted files from the internet. He asked me to start my computer and run (windows key & R keys) eventvwr and look at the event logs in both Applications and System and count up the alerts and warnings, which were, he said, an indication of problems on my computer. He also asked if the pc was slow to bootup or slow when internet browsing. He then tried to get me to type in www.logmein.com or might have been www.logmein123.com at which point I refused as this is the first step to letting a stranger have access to the pc. They claimed to be some sort of "service provider" and the only official global support but it is a scam. See http://www.digitaltoast.co.uk/supportonclick-systemrecure-scam for more details.
