Caller claimed to be from a company called Wincare who were offering a Phone Call Blocker to stop unwanted phone calls. As I have been getting swamped with unwanted calls for some time (does anyone take any notice of TPS?) I succumbed and bought one.

Two days later it arrived, I plugged it in and - nothing - it simply didn't work, and neither did my phone. Some internet searching turned up that the device is not actually compatible with BT lines.

Surprise-surprise, when I try and call them back there's no answer!!

Look on the bright side, lesson learned - NEVER PAY A COLD CALLER especially for any type of scam call blocking device or service. They are a scam http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/news1.html

The same thing happend to my mum, when i went to visit today she asked me to put it together for her as shes not very good with things like that, so when i looked at it there wasnt even any metal bits in where the batteries go, so i said this aint looking good so i took it apart & i was right there wasnt even anything soldered it was all glued so she is now out of pocket of £79
when we ring the two phone numbers we have for them they dont answer & just ask you to leave a message witch im sure they wont get back to my mum.

Looks like they may have changed their ploy.  My mother was called by these people telling her that her Telephone Preference Service has expired and she needed to pay £49 to renew.  Mum did gave her details and luckily we came back not long after. Money had gone out but we cancelled Mum's card and the bank fraud team are investigating.  Hopefully they will be able to get the authorities to do something about these people.

Following on from the previous message, I spoke with Trading Standards who recorded the incident and advised that we speak with Action Fraud (police fraud intelligence unit). We have done this so hopefully something will, sooner or later be done to deal with these cowboys.

I received a call from a company called Wincare or Tulip communications who informed me that they had taken from my account the sum of £49 as a one off payment to stop nuisance calls! At no time had I given my permission for them to do this. They were insistent that I had a month previously. They then asked me to confirm the number of my card. I refused and asked them to give me this number as they claimed to had taken the money from my account. They said they were not allowed to do this over the phone. At this point I should have hung up but I had become angry and agitated. I told them I did not want the service. they then informed me the money would not be refunded! By this time I was so brow beaten and fed up and have also been fed up with the amount of nuisance calls I have been receiving I very stupidly gave them my number and hung up! I then told a friend about this who informed me I had been scammed!! I rang my bank who informed me the  money had been taken from my account AFTER I had given them the number!! I cancelled my debit card and the bank assured me they would get my money back. OK I know I was stupid but the lesson I have learned from this is never take part in any kind of cold calling ever again!!

These rats use the "just confirm your card number, which we already have" to fool people into giving them the number, which of course, they don't have.  Don't beat yourself up over this, they are very good at what they do. Don't ever let these type of callers browbeat you, just hang up the 'phone.  It's hard when you are basically a polite person but just remember that cold callers either want your personal information to sell on, or to steal your money.  If you want to block calls then you can get a Call Blocker from Amazon or Argos or a BT6500 'phone.  There items are all in the £40 - £50 range.

Just found out my elderly neighbours had given over card details to these clowns, they are now £49 down. I looked over the letter they received telling them that they had basically paid this company £49 to register them with TPS on their behalf. I advised him to go into town tomorrow and kill the card before they ring again and try to sell him more bogus nonsense.  

Call from WinCare yesterday.  Not a pleasant experience - just hope I am not £49 worse off!
