Got the call from them today. At first it was a guy called Bob Williams on the line, he sounds just like a asian guy. Said that my pc was sending them many error messages and he was calling to help me fix my pc. I asked him how he got my phone number to which he replied that they can work it out from my IP address. He also said that they were from Microsoft approved help centre based in Luton and they said that i am already their existing customer from Onlinepcmasters and they did have my card details already they read out my card no back to me then they said now you believe me that you are my existing customer, i was shocked when he confirmed my cards no that was exactly the same they were asking me to pay £164.95 for the lifetime i denied that then they said to me if you will not agree then i will charge the money £164.95 from you card because i have got your card details already i just called up my bank to cancelled my debit card that was very rediculous . I was not ready at all for anything then he abused me and he removed the internet settings from that day so far i am not able to use internet, i already went to trading standard people and they now they are investigating the matter. Morever I called up my local area police to investigate the company name www.smartsupportguys.com and  their telephone no is 02071939836.

I would like to inform you guys that one of my family member is a lawyer and he is going to look further into this matter.
I went a bit further than the guys above and I followed his instructions to a ponit where I run software called teamviewer on my pc. That allowed them to connect to it and do almost everything they wanted. They run the msconfig and eventvwr from 'start , run' menu and showed all the error messages that have been generated on the pc as well as windows services that have stopped running. He was also saying that my pc was very slow because i have viruses called trojans that anti-virus programs cant remove. This could cause my pc to crash any moment. he also noticed the Macafee software that I'm using and asked if I was paying for them. The call was then passed to his supervisor Kevin Smith as he wasn't capable to deal with all the problems my pc have.He gave me his 'direct line' as 02071939836 and said that they'll need to install 3 programs on my pc that will sort out all the issues i have. Then he opened the notepad on my pc and could see as he was typing what they'll do to my pc (all pasted below). They will install

1.Advanced system protector.
2.Advanced system optimizer.
3.Advanced system email backup.

These three software will work in your pc for the whole life time.

My conclusions are:
- the company is deffinately not Luton based and these surely are not their real names. I have checked their website and found that they are UAE based company Head Office

They all spoke english with an accent (would say asian) and spoke their language on few occasions while I was wating for some programs to download.
In the best case they could be a company trying to sell or re-sell pc security software, but in my opinion have no connections with Microsoft whatsoever.
- they could also be sipmly after your £164.95 and then get nothing in return;
- or they might be after your card details and whatever you've got left on that account;
- worst case would be them installing some software that could help them steal your identity or get your internet banking logon details.
I wasn't too worried about them connecting to my pc as i was on a notbook that i only use for surfing and do not store anything important on it.

This exact same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago now having more trouble with computer, telephone number and website they gave me are both not working. Beware

Just had this same call from an 'unavailable' number, but my antivirus wouldn't allow them to gain access using their www.ammyy.com software.  Having pushed a bit harder the guy hung up.  I recalled the 02071939836 number and the guy told me to buy the software being offerred for lifetime support.

What have i lost? about 1 hr of my life arguing whether this was legitimate or not with the guy.  Thanks to my Antivirus, he didn't succeed in the scam.

Got a call on my landline yesterday(3rd Jan 2012) to say that they were from Microsoft and that my computer had several faults internally and they needed to acess it to remedy. Unfortunately, I allowed them access and they showed me a pagedemonstrating over 2000 faults over the last 2 years which they said were slowing down my computers operation and that my computer was on tghe verge of crashing. She then directed me tgo a page of smartsupportguys.com where she said that I needed to pay £299.99 for lifetime cover and ongoing support, as I was not signed up for Microsoft Technical Support. I declined and was met with the hard sell and prospects of my computer crashing.  I still declined and hung up. I am a bit worried that they gained access into my computer and I divulged my ISP. The www.ammyy.com software was not allowed access due to my antivirus software.
Still worried they may access my computer again, so will take it to someone to check out my security.
Stay well clear is my advice!

This scam was highlighted on "You've been Scammed", BBC1, 21st November.  These people will install spyware/malware on the computer if given remote access.  Any money they ask for to "fix" nonexistent faults seems to be a diversion, to hide what they are really doing.  The Director of Security for Microsoft stated, on the same programme, that neither Microsoft, nor its partners, would ever call you.   It would be a breach of their privacy rules.  As well as having your computer checked out keep an eye on your bank accound, if you do online banking and check anything else of where you use passwords, eg, on line shopping.

smartsupportguys.com stay away i fell for it at a cost of £33 three weeks ago, you wont belive it someone else phoned me today thinking they were going to con me again! with the same crap that i had a virse, stuff that told them where to go and hung up on them, the funny thing was that they rang back a few moment later did not answer the phone, hope they got the message.

They scammed me in November 2011 - same spiel as they gave to everyone else and i parted with £169.

However, I got my money back - paid on a Visa debit card and delivered enough evidence of the scam to my bank to allow them to use the Visa Chargeback facility. Basically, my bank got the charge back from SmartSupportGuys' bank.

Try it if you paid on Visa debit. Or if you paid on a credit card, you can do the same if the invoice was greater than £100.

This company phoned me claiming originally to be from Windows. The caller said that my computer had sent out a report that there was a malfuncton and that he could fix it. He showed me remotely on my computer the errors that were causing operating problems. He showed me a website for smartsupportguys. Everything was very plausible. I paid £83.90 for an annual tecnical support package. However, when he took me to the ammyy website to gain remote access I noticed a message on the ammyy page warning about illegitimate use of their website. Alarm bells rang and I switched off my computer and contacted my bank. I also contacted Microsoft to see if they had really certificated this site and this company. Microsoft said straight away that it is a scam. My bank siad that it might not be because their website looked convincing and advised me to exercise my customer rights under smartsupportguys terms and conditions that says I can cancel my subscription within 30 days and get a refund. I have applied for the refund. My argument is that if this is a genuine company they will give me my rights and refund my money. If they don't my bank will pursue the matter as soon as the transaction appears on my statement.

I am unsure about whether they are genuine or not, but they certainly resemble a lot of scams out there. I'll post again if I have any further news.

I took technical support plan from Smartsupportguys.com , However I know this company is based in Dubai and provides Technical Support from there and they fixed my internet issue.It was good experience for me. Thanks :)

Yes Luke. Of course they did........... The above post is obviously an attempt at damage limitation by the scammers themselves. Most positive posts are from the con merchants, in a feeble attempt to appear ligitimate. Avoid these parasites.

Just had "Stephen" from Smartsupportguys" on the phone again. I get regular calls from them. This time i played along up to the point where he asked me to enter the www.ammyy.com adress in the run command. I managed to keep him on the phone for 28 minutes before he gave up trying to convince me to log on to this website. It is a pity that they succeed in getting people to part with their information and money. I hope the long call from where ever he was cost a lot of money and by keeping him hanging on it saved somebody from falling for his scam.

my mother was scammed in very similar way to above, last month.  Although she thinks the company that called her was Zest infotech.  The chap said he was from Microsoft Engineers and took over her computer.  She was passed between two men and a woman (as soon as she started asking them tricky questions they'd put someone else on the phone).

In the past engineers have taken over her computer legitimately, so to begin with it seemed okay, but she became increasingly suspicious.  It wasn't until she rang off that she realised for sure that she'd been scammed (having given them £241).  It turns out that the anti-malware software they put on her computer is legitimate but it is available as a free download.

It is a horrible feeling that you have been targeted.  She had to pay the money into an American Bank Account - Paycommerce 732-5620020 NJ USA.

I've just checked the Zest Infotech website which looks legit and has two contact addresses, one in India and one in the USA.  Can't find a UK contact number.

And today I've just answered the second call of the day from this company Smart Support Guys asking for my mother.  He said he was from the Windows Technical Department, that she was a registered customer and there was a critical error with her computer.  He gave the number 0207 1939 836.  

She must be on some database.  The police are aware, and said they are getting a lot of similar reports.

I've just had the same call from Zest Infotech.  I let them get access to my computer but didn't hand over any money.  I'm concerned they may have put something on my computer though or got details off. I did a virus scan (even though they told me it wasn't working and could only be used for Windows Vista) and it came out clear so I'm hoping I'm OK.  Worrying that someone can so easily get access to my PC though and concerned about what they may now be doing.

They have phoned me 6 times today and just won't take no for an answer. I threatened to go to the police and have them check smartsupportguys out, but that still didn't put them off. Any ideas what else i can do? I asked for their phone number as it comes up as 'unavailable' on my phone and they said it is 02071939836. I'm sick of the calls.

Had a call from smartsupportguys 10/04/12. I let them access my laptop to repair issues that they claimed they going to damage it. I paid £154.95. Have they now got access to my bank account details and credit card.

I received cal from this number and basically this guy called adam took remote control of my computer and said there was viruses. As mt system had been runnung slowly I ran with it aand paid £150 for him to "fix" it. I am now worried of theft etc what should I do to ensure all is ok?

This is definately a scam. Recieving weeky calls from this motley crew.

They gave me the 020 7193 9836 number, and gave me an IP of 192.168.1.98 as the ID of the machine which is causing the problem. Which is interesting as I don't use that IP - 1st warning.

I asked them for the nature of the error at which point they started getting wooly - "a windows error of slowness and your machine might crash". 2nd warning - no details.

I asked for a website that I could validate their company on and they hung up - I guess the comments above are getting through not to give out that ammyy website.

Also got a call today - asian accents - they tried to get access to my computer.  I found this site, which told me not to get involved.  Glad this info was available. sounds very dodgy

Three calls this morning and very persistent.  Would not take No for an answer and finally a supervisor telephoned to ask what my problem was.  They are very convincing - I would recommend you just hang up on them.
