i had phone call, they said they are dvsa, strange

hi there how do u no that after 6 years they cannot get u for your debts , i have had loads of fone calls from these poeple for sum1 else but today they foned a neighbour asking for me this time so i contacted them back because it was a different number , when they answerd they asked all my details so i gave them what i could and now it turns out that i owe £160 to a bank from 8 years ago so i have stupidly set up a direct debit , have i done the wrong thing , im just so sick of the fone calls and now it has gone beyond it when they are ringing neigbhours . what can i do now im worried i have given my details out of my bank account but i have to pay them cause i admitted it was me and fir the life of me carnt remember the £160 debt

Something can be done, if you have not done so already. Register with the TPS or Telephone preference Service.

Register with your personal number that you are getting the calls on. This then legally binds call centres like the one mentioned not to call you.

If they call you then action can be taken against them.

The TPS can only stop calls from people trying to sell you something....

If you try and complaint to the TPS about Surveys or Debt Collectors they will politely tell you that they can not help.

I've been there and got the emails and letters saying sorry.

Last week I opened a letter from T mobile advising me of an alternative way of paying my debt.The next letter I opened was from Cap Quest saying they'd bought the debt from T mobile. I phoned the number on the T mobile letter and got through to guess who? Cap quest. I told them i didn't have a debt with Tmobile and I was going to ge to the bottom of it. What a job I had getting to talk to some one at Tmobile anyway I eventually got to talk to someone who to cut a long story short gave me the mob number this debt related to which I later found out was a pay as you go number, which youcannot get a debt on..Secondly the address that related to the debt was in Peterbro. We live 200miles from there and also never been there only passed through on train. I phone cap quest back and put the debt under investigation.
I was unaware I had a debt as both my wife and myself are now on O2. we were a long time ago with t mobile but cancelled and payed up for my wife to go on Orange and me on O2.I today the 3oth have missed a call from this 020 number, googled it and found all these posts so I thought I'd add my bit........ all very mysterious,,, wrong number,,,,wrong address.I'm going to employ debt agency to harrass them.....

It is 29th Dec and I have just received a call from 02084958734.  They said they were looking for someone who had lived at an address that was not mine presently nor ever had been.  At first they said that the person had given them my phone number, then they said that they had some important mail for that person.  I asked to speak to a supervisor whose name was David Archibald ( a fake name i think) he said the company was DVSL Data Verification Services Ltd and that their office was based in Glasgow but their head office was Basingstoke RG21 3BP.  He would not confirm how they got the telephone number and had an attitude of hostility. He confirmed he would delete my phone number but we shall see.  At no time did they say they were a debt collection agency until i looked them up on the internet and called back to ask why they were lying in the initial call and how they got my telephone number.  I never received a satisfactory reply

Phone call from this number, they said they were a mailing company who were trying to send a letter. They also said that they had to confirm the address before mailing.

That's illegal and you should report them to the OFT and trading standards they are breaking the law  and can be fined. for approaching neighbours,against deby collection guidelines, don't speak to them hang up also report for harrassment check out how to deal with them on consumeractiongroup.

Cancel the DD ask them for proof you owe this debt and details of it  they need to provide you with a deed of assignment don't send anything to them with your signature on it they will copy it on to documents visit the consumer action group look at debt collection forums Capquest you will find loads of help and advice and template letters to send and never sign your normal signature to the letters. Report them to OFT and trading Standards for enquiring re you from a neighbour. don't be intimidated by them they have as much rights as a postman but they threaten all sorts

*fifi* just noticed ,  A debt from 8yrs ago will be statute barred meaning it is unenforcable they can chase you forever for it but they can't collect on it change your fone number and ignore them cancel the DD at the bank visit consumer action group get a letter there to send them report them to Office of Fair Trading and trading standards.

i  just had a call he spoke very nice , and as i have just had a debt relief order , and i have been married 4 years he slipt up , he asked for me by my old married name . lol , i was not that stupied told him no one lives here with that name , i put 141 in and listend back the women on the phone said hello dvsl? can i have your account number please , i put the phone down , me smelling a rat was right ,

beware a company called dvsl , they speak nice , ask for you by name , you say yes speaking , or who is it , sly gits !!!

Had two phone calls from them today m I was out for both seen them when I got home, googled and found this . I am not sure what they want I have no outstanding debt and live day to day no finance or HP credit etc , I will not be answering though if they ring again .

Same call from this number. Do not give them your current address. Do not give them your date of birth or other personal information.

They are a tracing agency!! Nothing more!! Have as much right to harass you as a teabag.

When they call again, refuse to give ANY information at all, but DEMAND that they remove your number from their system, and tell them if they refuse you report them to ofcom under the telephone harassment act.

This number keeps phoning me and asking for a janet or kevin jackson and if my address is ashtree grove, which it isnt. I have not told them who I am or my address and will never do so. I have never heard of these people and im getting annoyed at the number of calls I keep receiving.
I am now having calls from 02075363460 and whoever this is hangs up when i answer.

had two calls today 1 at home 1 on my mobile how did they get my mobile number for a start saying they were dvsl and i had won something and it was going to be delivered and they needed me to ring them on this number wont be calling them back cheeky gets

The woman on the phone asked to speak to He-Who-Is-Not-Here because they are trying to deliver a letter.  She was a little taken aback because I told her that he's in prison for the next 5 years. Which one? she asked.  I gave her Dorchester.  Can you give me his prison number? she asked.  Nope - I'm just a friend but not that close a friend (go find it yourself).
As for his property you're too late because the CPS are already taking what's his.  And that ain't much.

Just took a call from a woman on this number claiming to be from a courier company who wanted to make sure they had the right address. The fact that I've already slapped Section 10 notice on CapQuest that says that BY LAW they may not contact me by phone seems not to matter to them. Let's make it matter, then - complaint being lodged this morning with the Office of the Data Commissioner, the OFT, and OFCOM this morning.

I kept asking her what she wanted and she just kept repeating the same thing. In the end told her to get lost.
