This company telephoned me this morning, trying to sell me a weight-loss product.  I was passed over to a number of the caller's colleagues, who all told me exactly the same thing. I could barely understand their very thick Asian accents.  In the end I agreed to make a purchase at their 'special pensioner' rate for £28.95 and gave my debit card details.  I was transferred to a lady called Janice to 'discuss my dosage' and was then subjected to a stream of almost unintelligible nonsense about what a wonderful product I was, but needed to take it for 4 months without a break, so she would send me the 4 months supply for £237.10.  I warned her that there would not be enough funds in my bank account for this(when I could finally manage to get a word in edgeways to her non-stop gabble) so she agreed to just charge me for the 1-month supply, asking me to send her a box of chocolates if I was pleased with the product.  I checked my bank account on line immediately after the call and found I had been charged £63.40, just about clearing out my account.  I phoned them back immediately, demanding a refund, and Janice's excuse was that she had been trying to save me money because the price was going up soon, so she had ordered me a 2 months supply.  I was furious at her assumption, and told her so, but her response was simply about 'what a lovely lady I was' etc etc..  She asked me to call her to order a further supply.

'Maria' said they were doing a survey about health, gave the company name Sanda Wellness and said they sell healthcare products. I was concerned because she mentioned a condition similar to something i have. I asked if they consult the Telephone Preference Service and she said yes, but later no. I asked how they got my contact details, and she replied:

    1. 'Friend or family' - i asked who, so i could tell that person not to give out my details, she stalled.
    2. A survey in my area and i must have been out... so i asked how they got my name and phone number by being outside my house, she stalled.
    3. A database, but she couldn't tell me which.

I knew they weren't just going down the phone book as i'm not in it.

I also asked if she was phoning from the UK and she avoided that by saying the company had a registered office in Bexley, Kent.

If i'd had a straight reply at any point i'd have given up, but by now i was very suspicious and insisted on speaking to someone superior. They were honest enough not to hang up on me. First someone called Jenny or Janice or Janet (?) then a man who sounded Indian but gave his name as Gary Lawyer (hm... real or not?) Sales Manager said they had 3 ways of getting details, and i was on the database they bought in from Avongate. He also mentioned Phruit, couldn't follow everything he said though his English was very good. And he told me they were a call centre in India but had a registered office in the UK, which is true: http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/fb2eb3c1605 ... 823/compdetails

Once he said it was a bought-in database and said he was taking my details off it as we spoke, i accepted that and gave up even though i don't quite trust everything. As i said at least they were honest enough to stay on the phone, though i did have to be very persistent. I bet they're a company expanding into the UK without proper understanding of what the market here, or something like that. I did tell him, if i'd had a straight answer in the first place i wouldn't have wasted 1/4 hour of their India—>UK phone bill!

hi my mother and father had a phone call from sanda wellbeing, the caller was spencer  who said he was from the HEALTH CENTRE my parents initially thought it was a call from their doctors so they were taken off guard for a small part of the conversation and obviously thinking it was from there own gp's receptionist they were not sharp with the caller so he wormed his way into their trust, but luckily i was sitting in the other room overheard the chatter and told them to put the phone down which they did eventually.but a friend of mines parents were pursuaded to hand over credit card details over to the lovely spencer, but cancelled their credit card rapidly.i myself count every phone call i get from various companies as a scam that way your financies and dignity lay intact.people are getting wise to internet scams so these so called companies are reverting back to good ole tried and tested phone scams so please pleas everyone be more cynical when recieving these type of calls.if you needed the type of products then you would purchase them down your local chain of a well known supplier for a lot cheaper, otherwise just stick to a healthy diet.Caller: sanda wellbeing (THE HEALTH CENTRE) yeah whatever

HERE IS SOME DIRT ON ONE OF SANDA WELLBEINGS OWNERS OR DIRECTOR.Fraud case collapse frees co-founders of Goldshield to launch rival bids for it

Kirti Patel gains 28% of drugs firm, giving him upper hand over fellow former executive Ajit Patel in battle to buy it back

    Article history

Two founders of the pharmaceutical firm Goldshield who were the subject of a failed NHS price-fixing fraud prosecution brought by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) have emerged on opposing sides in rival bids to take the company private.

Ajit and Kirti Patel were among nine executives targeted in a £20m SFO investigation into claims that an industry cartel had been conspiring to limit the supply of the commonly prescribed blood-thinning drug warfarin. The case collapsed last year when a judge threw the charges out.

Since then the co-founders, who had previously stepped back from the company to focus on legal defences, have been circling Goldshield, which makes generic drugs, looking to buy some or all of it back.

A management buyout team including Kirti Patel, one of two pharmacists who founded the business in 1989, now appears to have the upper hand after announcing an offer at 460p a share, valuing the business at £169m, after the market closed on Friday night. Kirti and his fellow executive directors, backed by private equity house Hg Capital, also acquired a stake of 17% on Friday afternoon in a hastily organised auction to add to the 11% they already hold.

Goldshield's three independent directors, led by former government anti-narcotics tsar Keith Hellawell, are still bound by a commitment they gave at the start of last week to recommend that shareholders accept a 450p-a-share rival offer. The lower bid comes from Goldshield's co-founder and former executive chairman Ajit Patel, who is backed by the Israel's Fuhrer family, who already control drug maker NeoPharm. Hellawell is expected to switch his backing to the Kirti bid later this week. Ajit Patel's side said it was continuing to "consider its position".

Ajit and Kirti Patel, who are unrelated, share a common Gujarati surname. Goldshield chief executive Rakesh Patel is also unrelated; he had become friends with Kirti while they were studying together.

Two years ago Ajit and Kirti Patel quit Goldshield as the company agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by the Department of Health claiming the company had been involved in a cartel to fix the price and supply of warfarin. Like several other firms accused of conspiring over warfarin prices, Goldshield paid £4m to end the claim without admitting liability. Both received contractually entitled payoffs from the company on departure.

Sources close to Goldshield said the decision to settle the Department of Health claim had been a purely pragmatic one, designed to restore relations with the NHS, a major customer.

The departing founders and Goldshield were among several executives and leading generic drug-makers facing criminal charges brought by the SFO in relation to the same claims. However, the criminal case was thrown out before it reached trial after the judge ruled the offence of conspiracy to defraud could not be used in cases of alleged price-fixing.

Cold called me about some sort of health promotion. I didn't let them get far into the script. Turns out they had bought my (ex-directory) number from a "vendor". Were aware of the TPS, and said they respected no-call and ex directory numbers, but didn't seem aware the number they had just called was both..

I am ex-diectory and I still get these unsolicited calls. This one tells me it is a Government Dept. Health Survey and will I answer a few questions. I say I will not be buying anything from him. He insists he is not selling, it's only a survey. I reiterate that I will not be be buying anything from him and I am told he will only,'suggest' and then it is up to me to 'buy or not'.  What is this business? Who owns it? How can I stop the calls? Who can I report the calls to? How can I trample all over their fingers and tongues?

I said that I didn't want to answer health questions to a stranger and hung up. I haven't had this number (they called my mobile) so it makes me wonder where they'd gotten my number, but having read through other people's messages, it seems that they have bought my number.

Called by Pearl from Sanda Wellness today.  Alleged they had information that I had health problems.  Got number from 1471 service and called them back.  I spoke to Kelvin (he answered the telephone as Sanda Wellness) and then to Rachel - asked them where they got information about my health - allegedly all they have is name, address and telephone - they became most evasive and effusive when I asked for names and addresses of their data vendors because I wanted to take civil action against tehm and whoever may have provided them with information Rachel promised that she would remove my name and details from their lists and contact the vendors because they shouldn't have passed on information if I was ex-directory or TSP.  Do I hold my breath?
