- Andrew Hjust got a call - rang twice and then hang up.
Fortuantly I googled the number and found this web site.
I then rang back and find its OPTUS !!!!!!
A recorded message saying " you have been contacted by Optus about our faboulus deals " or some such bull shite- Caller: Optus
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Jo replies to TinaYou are an absolute star Tina! I just called that number after getting another irritating as %$^% call from these guys - they said o'h yes you're on the 'westpac' list'!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm actually considering changing banks due to this!! advise everyone to do this guys! cheers! :)
- CameronIt's Optus not CBA wanting to spread the word on their "exclusive deals".
- Caller: Optus
- Call type: Telemarketer
- SamWas at home tonight googling and thought I'd type in that annoying number that has been comming up on my phone every day at 1.30 with no message. Surprised to see so many others are being annoyed...will try and barr the number
- Caller: no message
- MelI get all types of calls from so many numbers that are similar. there is no one on the other end and these can happen at night in the day and at times early in the morning 3.30am
these need to stop and the people responsible should be fined- Caller: no one answers
- Kevin in BrisbaneScum bugs have been calling me on 028198300 and 0280199700 repeatedly. Initially I saved them together under "DO NOT ANSWER" so at least I did not have to acknowledge the scum. Eventually I played around with my phone Telstra next G and did the following: "settings" - "call settings" - "all calls" - "auto reject" ("on") - "reject list" - put in numbers and "ok". At least when the scum ring it does not ring but goes straight to message bank, and lets you know you missed a call from them so you dont waste your time ringing message bank. Calls seem to be fading since - although it cold be just the weekend? Thanks for the discussion guys - very helpful and human - unlike this scum from c/w if thats who it is. Should be illegal!!!!!!!! Thanks for the idea of getting off call lists as well. Hope I see something on the news where these pricks get there karma!!
- The smart one! replies to think again| 1 replyStill how safe is it to give out your information on the phone to a complete stranger! NO WAY!
I'm smart and have my head screwed on! if I wanted insurance I would go get it!
NEVER GIVE UR DETAILS OUT ON A PHONE! EVER YOU WANT INSURENCE? GO GET IT! BE SMART PEOPLE! they called me and hung up! if I did get someone on the phone asking for details? I'd say get F@#$ed as if! loser...Job or no job, cleaner or bank clerk! don't matter who or what you do... just be smart peoples... - Realist replies to LI love these sites where we can confirm scams, etc. so thanks everyone for that.
But beyond this confirmation ... seriously ... would anyone like some cheese with their whine? It's a part of modern life. If you don't like it, live without a phone. Or if you like having a phone, save the offending phone number, assign a silent ringtone to it, and move on!
And remember to breath ... - queenVI receive at least 2 calls/day from this number and even though I never pick up, they are persistent little buggers. They can keep trying to ring me for all I care. I don't have voicemail and I'm fine to listen to my cool ringtone and ignore the call.
- AnnoyedCalls come from 02 8019 9700 & 02 8198 3800. Always just silence if I answer.

- Caller: some sort o marketing
- 0281983800Im getting deadlines from this number
- chrystalSo its as simple as this. Sykes is NOT a scam but a service. Hate to break it to you people but they already have all of your information as YOU chose them to. You've all at some point either ticked a box or asked to be contacted about any promotions that can be offered to you. Sykes Enterprises is a global business third largest of its type in the world, you should be glad that your banks, phone companies etc have hired such leading proffessionals in marketing. If you dont wish to be contacted a bout promotions ask your relevant organisations to remove you from their lists. It was your mistake in the first place, dont blame the people who are just doing their job. For all those screaming scam, perhaps you are in need of some help in finding a life, obviously you have way to much time on your hands. Wespac and st george people look on your bank sites there are statements there about affiliation with sykes. Get facts straight people, dont be so lame so as to foll
ow the pathetic troublemakers that find their lives pathetic enough to lower someone elses - KellyI got phone call from this number so many times...I know this number is not a good to answer so I never answered, but keep calling me is just annoying.
- maddie44OKAY!
Im going to inform every one of you people who think you know what is going on, but actually dont. i will try and make it easy to understand, although it is quite involved the whole process.
-I work for the company SYKES who has this number 0281983800
- our company is hired by WESTPAC as a direct marketing service for insurance and credit cards
- we ONLY CALL WESTPAC CUSTOMERS who have recieved the PDS and FINANCIAL SERVICES GUIDE that they sent out explaining about the product we are selling, who we are and what we do for westpac
- the reason for sometimes there being noone there or perhaps just a dead line is because all outbound call centres have what is called and AUTOMATIC DIALER, how this works, its [***] i know, but technology in this industry has caught up to the times yet, but basically the computer dials out 4 numbers the first of the four to pick up is transferred to one of us - a CUSTOMER RELATIONS MANAGER.
-ALL CALLS WE MAKE ARE RECORDED - so we always have to be polite, help the customer with any issues they may have whether they are interested or not, or we will automatically be dismissed from employment.
- THE REASON WE MAY ASK FOR A HUSBAND OR OTHER PERSON IS BECAUSE WE HAVE TO , we are only allowed to disclose information to the person whose name is on our screen, for legal and security reasons.
- THE REASON WE HAVE YOUR NUMBER AND DETAILS IS BECAUSE WESTPAC GAVE THEM TO US - westpac, when you sign up for a bank account or credit card or homeloan, in the terms and conditions you can choose either to let westpac disclose information about yourself to other companies afflilated with the westpac group - such as sykes or ict or you can choose not too, thats why you should always read the fine print.
- WE CAN PLACE ON THE DO NOT CALL FILE ONLY FOR THE PRODUCT WE SPECIFICALLY ARE CALLING ABOUT - for example i work for the bill cover department, if somebody would like to stop recieving calls from my department i immediatly let them know i will but them on the do not call fil for this campaign- as it is protocol for everyone who works at SYKES.
- WE UNDERSTAND HOW FRUSTRATING IT IS, we also sometimes get to calls and theres no one there, or somedays all we here is white noise, or sometimes we are abused constantly because of the dialer or how many calls people have recived, and we are sorry, but were just trying to get by in the world.
- THE REASON YOU MAY RECIEVE ALOT OF CALLS, we get alot of answering machines and no answers, we record this in our system and the automatic dialer will just call this number back in a few hours, and this can keep happening until somebody answers the phone and we can choose a time to call back because the person wont be home until then, or we can make a record of a do not call or a not interested
- WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RECORD CALLS WRONG OR WE WILL GET IN TROUBLE. we cannot say record an anwering machine as not interested because they have been called so many times and not picked up, or put someone on the do not call file if we are not speaking to them and maybe speaking to thier wife or brother etc.
- YOU CAN CALL WESTPAC AND ASK THEM TO NOT GIVE YOUR NUMBER TO US - we offer all our customers the westpac customer service number to call so that they can do this
so to sum up for you all, i have 2 kids and i used to be a stay at home mum, but then , my husband had a dramatic drop in pay and i needed to go back to work, and i didnt have any qualifications and all i knew about was sales so i found the job at sykes, and despite the obvious downfalls - ie rude people, abuse and people even threateneing my life, i actually love what i do, im good at it, i love talking to different people and sometimes you actually help some of them out. ive been there for 6 months and im the number 12 top sales person in the country out of 400 people. i dont want you to feel sorry for me because of what i do, because i love it, i work with great people and have an awesome time at work. all i want is for the people we call to realise we dont want to harrass you, we want to sell you something, but you have the power to say no. Just understand that the calls wont stop if you ingnore them, or if you just answer swear at us and then hang up. just pick up the phone say who you are and STATE CLEARLY PLEASE PUT ME ON THE DO NOT CALL FILE. and i would be more than happy to do that for anyone who asks me, see i dont mind some people dont want to be called about marketing and that is fine, because there are some people who do, it just makes it easier if you just let us know you dont want to be called. ALSO IF YOU HAVE ANY FUTHER ISSUES CALL WESTPAC - they are the ones who organise this we dont get the numbers out of no where - they give them to us.
I hope that this clears everything up for anyone who wondered who called them. - asif replies to Mylayes they have lives - its thier job!!!
so stupid - ivecalledyoutoo replies to CarlWe have real jobs d**k head - and we are good at them and thats why we probably get payed 3x times the amount that you do by selling insurance to suckers like you - id say im pretty happy about my job getting paid to be on the phone all day calling people like you - selling insurance and getting a bonus because it cost you like $130 a month!! so think about it this way the money you pay in interest and fees goes directly to paying for my wages and my bonuses and my all expenses paid holidays because im awesome at what i do. so next time your working hard at your sh*t job think about me laying back on a beautiful tropical island - payed for by the fees westpac charges and the insurance that you bought :)
- ezzzzI went through a stage where this number was calling up to 5 times a day. I answered once and they said they were calling on behalf of Westpac...if Westpac want to talk to me then they can ring me themselves. So I saved the number and always let it go to message bank and then would check the message and some girl would be going hello? hellooo?? hello?. Did they seriously think that when it said leave a message that I picked up?
- Caller: On behalf of westpac
