4 calls form this number, blank message and a few seconds of silence when I did answer. They did not use my name, just asked for 'acount holder'. The line was so quiet and I told him I could hardly hear him and he hung up on me! I will be calling BT to complain

Ofen call me on my buisness number that diverts to my mobile, they hang up as soon as it diverts.

I too received a call from this number today, from a lady calling from the BT call centre in Belfast. I agreed a new contract with reduced line rental and cheaper International call + more benefits!!.
I know now that this is a GENUINE OFFER + real phone call, because I just checked with BT, using the 0800 Free-Phone number on my latest quarterly bill from BT.
The lady I spoke to just now confirmed the deal I agreed at lunch time, as she could see it in the system.
I now am on the One-Plan which gives me very cheap International calls (landline to landline) for example 20 pence for up to an hour to Holland, or Luxembourg. 15 pence to France and Spain. The USA was equally cheap + many more.
I recommend you do as I did and joun this plan, by calling BT directly (the 02890-381743 Belfast number is out-going calls only!).

have just had a call from this number saying they are british gas how can they belong to bt and british gas?

This number has called - left an unidentifiable message which sounded foreign.

OK folks, have had a few missed calls from this number myself. After doing a bit of digging this is the story.

The number is for HCL BPO Services which is a call centre handling sales calls for amongst others BT and British Gas. The number is for outgoing calls only hence why you can't ring it back and they have call centres all over the world which can be routed through this number.

And yes they are getting annoying.

I did not pick the 'phone up when it rang as I only pick up for known numbers but I do not believe this is BT.  My number is registered with TPS and BT would not call a registered "no marketing calls" number.  The only people who will call that number are people you have existing business with and *the lowest of marketing scumbags that you do NOT want to do business with* - I have no existing contracts with BT and have not used them for over 10 years for anything.

@Andy - That's exactly what I do: say "hang on a minute I have to turn the kettle off" and then just let it hang...

Getting call every hour on the hour

Told me they were British Gas. and they have a free gift for me but they needed to know if there was anyone over 70 in the house. When I told him I wasn't going to divulge that type of information he said I won't get free gift.

Caller was agut with Irish accent, could here another guy talking in background.

5 calls to my mobile in 3 minutes.  Called them back, no answer.

They called my mobile but dropped the call. How rude!

I've had two calls to my mobile in the last hour, both rang only twice before they gave up, not enough time for me to run down stairs, but rather annoying.

They'll be an outsource partner of BT and British Gas (I just got a gas call from Mary, but no doubt I'll get one from their BT team too at some point!). They're using a predictive dialler to contact customers, so when the dialler expects an agent to be free it dials your number in advance - if its set too fast you'll often get a few seconds of silence before they connect.  Annoying as hell yes, but not the agent's fault.  Diallers can't take inbound calls so you'll have to complain direct to BT or BG if its causing a nuisance. There are Ofcom rules about who they can ring, when, how often and what about.  Big guns like BT have to be squeaky clean with compliance so the chances are they're operating inside the rules, but you can always ring them direct and have a good rant!  Like the idea about the kettle LOL! Keep em talking, it costs them money ;-)

Four calls within a space of two hours, no message left.  Called back and informed that the number does not exist.  How can you receive a call from a number and then when you ring back the exact same number it does not exist??

Called twice on my MOBILE !!! Missed the calls. Doesn't connect back.

Have just started getting calls from this number. I have had a call per day over the last 3 days. I have caller display and don't answer numbers I don't recognise. They never leave a message. It's just annoying to keep getting unsolicited calls. I'm registered with TPS and that hasn't stopped them.
