Purporting to be from TV Licensing, the guy's attitude was aggressive.  He tried to suggest that my Direct Debit had been cancelled and that there was a missed payment.  When I told him that this was unlikely he became agitated.  I offered to go to my Bank in the morning to clarify it and he put the phone down on me.  When I then called the number back it does not ring.

Dubious call and multiple persistent, missed calls. Caller (if genuine) did not have cause to contact me in any case because my license was renewed on time.

Legitimate companies would not cold call like this. Legitimate companies would send letters through the post, with reminder letters for unpaid bills.

Sensible people do not give any information over the phone to unknown and / or unverified callers.

    Can only be a scam.

They managed to call you at 8:56 pm, despite the fact that the real TV Licensing customer service phone lines shut at 5 pm.

Hang up or don't answer if / when you receive a call from this number.

The real "TV Licensing" have addresses for properties with and without TV licenses so they can write to you if need be.

I've quoted your post above because it doesn't make sense. You've posted a comment on this site, but in your case you MADE the call and didn't receive it.

It's also not possible to get automatic refunds. You need to apply for a refund (http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/FAQ76 and http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-nee ... nd-refunds-top7), you need to PROVE (with evidence that you're leaving the country) that you no longer need the license and you would only get a refund if you have more than a quarter remaining on your license. A quarter of the current license fee is £36.38 (£145.50 divided by 4) - unless you're really living in a time warp with a B&W TV then you are unlikely to have met this criterion.

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________
    Quote from TV Licensing website:

"In most cases you will only be able to get a refund if you have a full quarter or more remaining on your TV Licence and you don't need it again before it expires. Your application must be submitted within two years of the expiry date of the licence for which you need a refund. You can apply for a refund for your TV Licence by completing the online refund form. The form will tell you whether you need to send us any evidence. If you do, then you need to print the completed form, sign it and send it to the address below with a photocopy of your evidence:

This claims to be TV licence. They were ringing about my old address though,  and I cancelled that one 6 months ago so I'm rather suspicious about the questions I was being asked. Rang off!

To anyone who has been called by this number...

I can now absolutely definitely confirm for sure that this most definitely is TV licensing.

(I know for sure 100% because I had a massive argument with them that went on for 18 months!!!)

This is the number they kept calling me on. Eventually it went to court so this is how I know 100% that it is TV Licensing.

So now you all know for sure too.
