- kjohnsonI had a call from a guy (sounded Indian in a call centre) saying he worked for an internet provider who supplied internet in my area, and that they had received lots of calls to say that a virus had been growing massively in my area so he wanted to check that I deleted the virus. He started taking me through areas on my computer and then asked me to count up how many 'error' messages had been filed recently in my Computer Management, then put me on hold. I hung up as I didn't know who he was or where he was calling from - a really odd call. I didn't give any details out but he knew my name and our ex-directory phone number. He tried to call back immediately 4 times, but I ignored the phone. Anybody else had these and know if it is genuine or not?
- Caller: Don't know

- Reg| 1 replyLike other postings above, I have received several calls from the 0301 number. Usually, after a few seconds a recorded voice says 'Goodbye' but there was an actual voice on the last call. He stated that there was a virus reported on my computer etc. During our conversation, I managed to extract a statement from him in which he claimed to be calling on behalf of youronlinepcdoctor which was authorised to make calls according to him by a company called Windows a Microsoft division. I respectfully told him that Windows was an operating system not a company and patiently explained what an operating system was and pointed out that that there were different Windows operating systems . He then went ballistic and ranted at me in foreign language before slamming the phone down when he realised that I was taking the mickey out of him. There is a legit company called Your Online PC Doctor but I suspect that they were not the people making the call.

Received a call today 3 September 2011 from 0301 foreign voice asking me what sort of TV I had and how old it was. I informed him it was a Panasonic and two years old (just in case his next question was about digital TV) and that I had spoken to Panasonic last week. He then asked me where I bought it. I ignored the question, then he asked were the people at Panasonic pleasant to me. I said Yes very pleasant but that I had no wish to discuss TVs with him I had more do do with my time on a Saturday morning. He said Thank you and we both hung up.
I consider this an intrusion on my privacy and am now going to buy a new phone where caller number shows up. If I do not recognise the number I shall not pick up the phone. I do believe when I telephone the USA I have encountered some sort of message which asks the caller if you are selling or soliciting and if so go away. You also have to insert the first 10 digits of your own phone number, and only then are connected. - SimonGet registered with the Telephone Preference Service, it is free and takes 1 min on the web.
When you get the calls ask "Why are you calling me? I am registerd with the Telephone Preference Service"
Generally they go away very quickly and will delete you from their lists as there are fines for them for calling a number on the TPS. - chI have had a number of very persistant calls from this number over last 3 wks from a man with a very strong Indian accent claiming to be from some company that will take me through a process on my computer to protect it from a virus which is about to bring my home pc crashing down. Will not be put off.....

- markgot a call of this number today,
just ask for their FSA number and the will hang up. - Chris| 1 replyI have had several calls from this number over the past 2 weeks - usually once a day. It goes dead on pick up, then It goes on to call minder and leaves a message - 'Goodbye' or nothing.
My worry is that these calls are chargeable to the receiver - me!
Are we incurring a charge does any one know?- Caller: Unknown
- Chris replies to ChrisSorry, omitted to say the callers number to my last post is 0301!
- Qamar ul zaman| 1 replythe 0301 6966079 is disturbing me tell me the name of owne
- Caller: jazz
- RSA replies to Qamar ul zamanFor three weeks now I have been getting these calls daily.
Sometimes the phone rings just once or twice and they hang up before I answer.
Every time I do answer these calls there is a silence for 10 seconds then an automated "goodbye".
(I hadn't considered that the scam might be reverse-charged calls - as mentioned above)
Also, about two weeks I had one call from India. The caller claimed to be from Microsoft and said "your computer is about to crash". This thread suggests that this might have been the same scammers.
I am in South Africa and the calls come from 0-0301, or from no number when it rings just twice.
Glad to not be alone in this. - RSAJust received another call from "Microsoft... centre in India", 10 minutes after making my first post.
(As if they are tracking my internet activity)
They wanted me to sit at computer and follow some steps. I said I was not infornt of PC. They hung up.
This time the caller's number was not traceable, but I suspect it is the 0301 scammers.
Are they hacking IPs after getting phone numbers from DSL lines or something?- Caller: Microsoft
