I have had a few missed Calls from this number recently - but I have had my Business Listed on their website (FOR FREE) since July 2011. - JohnA slippery smart-alec who antagonised me in seconds by playing games. I hung up. He immediately tried to call back. I left the phone off the hook.
- Caller: Yell
- RichardI too am receiving calls from this number, though I must say I haven't answered one yet.
I missed the first three, I was in the shower at the time so I was surprised to see they were persistent enough to attempt 3 calls in a row. I dialed the number back and heard some automated voice saying something about Yell. I did a bit of 'Googling' and came across this site.
I do remember having a call from Yell a little while ago (a fair few months) saying I'd signed up to their free advertising and they just wanted to check my details.
I've got a terrible memory, so I don't remember signing up to their advertising, but I was a self employed web designer so I probably did.
So I thought what the hey and went along with the call, they just asked me information about the kind of services I offer etc.
After reading the messages on here, I don't plan to answer any of the calls simply because chances are that's what's going to get them started with their continuous calls saying "We can offer you this!".
My website went offline a few months ago so I've no need for advertising. - Chances are if I answer the call and tell them that, they'll call back a day or two later. (From what I've read thus far of course. I'm only assuming they'll phone back continuously)
Whilst I'm here - I've read through all the messages already posted on this site regarding this phone number. One I'd like to mention and 'reply' to are the messages posted by Boydy.
If you truly are an employee of Yell, you're setting a very bad example for them and I suggest you think long and hard before posting again. - No doubt you're going to tell me the exact same thing in your next reply.
You've not once responded to any of the complaints people have made here, all you've said is "Yell's sale force is recognised as the best in the UK", and you also mentioned possibly the best in the world.
In all of your posts you've mentioned Yell's sale force being the best there is, but you've still not even attempted to explain these calls to put Yell's reputation back up to the best in the world (only for this site of course. I'm sure there's thousands who still have a high reputation for you).
Yes people are coming onto this site just to have a moan about Yell, but not because their businesses have stopped trading, but because there's companies who continue to pester again and again because they don't listen to their customers when their customers do say "I'm no longer trading". I worked in a call centre once and I can assure you my customer service was a hell of a lot better than that of Yell's.
Thus far Boydy, every response you've had has just been an attempt to insult the previous poster. Merely to make them look bad so no one takes any real notice of what they actually posted.
As I say, you've not made any attempt to explain these constant calls, and explain as to why they might in fact be a benefit to us, or a good thing for us, you've just been attempting to insult everyone thus far.
Sorry, just a final note. I've just read your most recent comment about having a life outside of work.
We all do the same, I myself have a great life outside of work. But taking 5 minutes to report a call on this site doesn't mean we don't have a life.
It would also make for a better life if we didn't have pestering calls from Yell every 5 minutes. (And before you make a smart remark to that "every 5 minutes", of course that's just an exaggeration)
I'll continue to ignore these calls as I've not answered any of them yet. We'll see where it gets me.- Caller: Yell
- RichardJust a quick side note.
I've just attempted to login to Yell's website. I have 4 different email addresses, and none of them are registered to the site at all. (I attempted to send a forgotten password email with their site, and it tells me every email I enter isn't registered with them)
Not quite sure why I'm getting these calls then..- Caller: Yell
- Micky P replies to JaneI store any nuisance caller as TOSSER on my phone. Makes me feel better when I cut them off anyway ha ha
- BobI had 2 calls from this lot this morning (before 9.00am) waking me up so I certainly classify ANYONE who does that to be a nusance.
Taken the good advice regarding adding this number 0800 108 579 as "DONT ANSWER" into my phones. However, unfortunately, that will not stop them waking me up will it?
So, if Boydy would like to post his/her telephone number here (as the helpfull Yell contact he/she obviously wishes to be) then I will call to arrange a meet up for an after work hours chat/laff about how lack of sleep affects serious illness. I assume his/her number will be busy with many other calls from satisfied Yell customers. Don't worry though Boydy, I will keep trying to get a hold of you day and night for ever and ever.- Caller: Yell.com

- Nick the humble plumberAah, Yell.com. They mithered me to hell to take out a premium listing as it would be GUARANTEED to generate £££££'s a month in work. So I told them if they were THAT confident I'd earn so much money and seeing as I was skint, run the ad and I'll pay up ONLY if the work comes in. So they did. And guess what? The only phone calls I got were from trade suppliers, employment agencies, job hunters and other online marketing agencies. No plumbing jobs. So I got a bill of them for about 2 grand for the year. So I said "Dint get a single tap washer change off this ad. Not paying" So they said "Oooh, we'll take legal action" So I replied "See you in court mate". But you know what? 18 months later I haven't heard a thing. Still get cold calls asking me to advertise with Yell, though. Just place the phone quietly to one side and see how long it takes for them to hang up.

- shirlYell.com are useless, I have repeatedly told them my mobile is TPS and to stop ringing. Do they listen? do they b*****ks!
I have reported them to the DMA and will take it further if they persist.
I did slightly get my own back by signing the 0800 number up to a few of these persistent PPI claims companies.- Caller: Yell.com

AVOID!! - MarkI have just had yet another call form yell today. I told the pushy salesman that I have already looked at their advertising, and that I would not be requiring their services. I thought, that way, he would not have to stay on the phone, offering me something that I didn’t what. The man persisted and told me how great yell was and how all other companies benefit from their advertising. I asked for a single, similar company to mine, so that I could phone them to see if the other company thought advertising with yell was a good idea, he couldn’t think of any, and then he said that he wasn’t allowed to give out that information. He carried on selling. I tried to interrupt him several times to tell him that yell had even invoiced me for something I had specifically said I did not want, but he continued to talk over me. When I tried to interrupt him for the seventh time, he said ‘just let me talk’, to which I said ‘look, I am the customer, you are selling me something, you should be listening to me’. He would just not stop speaking. I hung up. He called back immediately, someone else answered the phone and said that I wasn’t there; he began to argue with them and said ‘I know he is there’. What a crowd, when I am not so busy I have some wonderful fun with sales people, tell them that you are really keen to buy their product, but you have to find some paperwork, leave the phone on the desk and let them hang on for as long as possible (my best time, 20 minutes). Ask them where they are, where they go on holiday, what are their interests; ask them what size shoes they wear. You will be saving some other person from enduring their pushy, wasteful, boring, scamming, sad phone calls. Oh, and never use Yell.

- Zhoo ZhooThey just rang me, I answered after 1 ring but they hung up.
- Genuine Small Business PersonThis is tragic - I recognise yellow pages and yell.com as key marketing tools for sammle businesses and as a genuine start up I have been looking at yell.com and have been considering an upgrade to enhance my exposure. I didn't want to do this straight away as I am a member of a professional institution who can provide similar services via yell.com and yellow pages. But this 'professional' service takes time to set up and then I need to weigh up the options as to how best use my limited marketing budget.
Since getting my free listing I have been pestered by calls fromm 0800 108579 from somebody who dosn't understand my needs and even suggested that I wasn't a genuine business. As a result I now don't answer my phone directly and let every thing go to answer phone.
Yell need to revise their agressive attitude to marketing or it 'will' backfire on them - good luck to all the genuine hard working 'professional' guys out there who know how to treat customers.- Caller: yell
