About 12.15 pm Tuesday 27th October 2009; call about are you having debt problems.  We are registered with telephone preference so should not get cold calls.  Didn't state who they are before the invite to respond or select 9 to (hopefully) get no more calls.

I am getting the same problem; calls from this organisation almost every day even though I am ex directory and very careful in giving out my number.

You can complain and based on the munber they can try and track the company down

Again I have had to get my frail body up out of my chair to answer these idiots. I hope they are paying at premium rate and soon go bust. The sooner the Government bring out legislation making this type of cold calling illegal the better. I don't know which is worse; the smoke from smokers or these pratts continualy calling.

Got a new phone line last week and every day I get a call from this company. I select 9 to cancel any further calls, but it never works. We need a way to stop these rogue companies.

The call started "Are you in debt" then I put the phone down. I am registered with TPS and we are ex-directory.

This number has been calling me on a daily basis since I moved here in May, despite me being ex-directory and having the telephone preference service. I complained to BT and they said I could have the Choose To Refuse service free for 28 days, so I just call up the 'robot' and press in the number I want barred. I also reported the number to the TP Service on 0845 0700 707.

I have registered with TPS to stop these calls.  Can they take any action to stop this company calling me?

I've been receiving calls from this number too. Got fed up and investigated (by getting patched through to an advisor and asking).

They're using a few 0800 numbers, the one on my caller ID is not on their website (presumably to stop people Googling them and complaining)

There must be something they can do as it is:
"a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS"
you need to be registered for at least 28 days before you can claim to be covered by the TPS though

I've been getting these types of call ever since I got a 'Think Banking' bank account. Think Banking also have a department which deals with loans etc as well.
The only reason to get a Think Banking bank account is if you have a bad credit rating and can't get a proper account so they automatically know you're in debt.

Sorry forgot to say they also pass your phone number onto other companies

I receive unsolicited recorded messages from this number about once a week, despite being registered on the Telephone Preference Service.
I suggest everyone in a similar situation complain to the TPS, using the details posted by The Oracle (above, 28 Oct 09).

0800 freephone numbers cost money to run. If a number of people were to call back on 08001585655 and leave their phone off the hook it might block lines and run up the company's phone bill. Not that I am suggesting anyone do this.

Registration with The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) will help reduce receipt of live unsolicited direct marketing calls but will not stop pre- recorded calls.

Organisations that use recorded phone message to try and sell or promote their products or services have to comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. These say that marketers who leave recorded phone messages must obtain prior consent from the subscriber before they can make such a call.

Where a subscriber receives a recorded phone message they haven't agreed to there may have been a breach of the regulations. If you are receiving recorded messages and have not given prior permission, you can complain directly to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), who are the body responsible for enforcing the above regulation. Just a recorded message about wiping free debt, I hung up straight away. I am also ex-directory though and would also like to know how they got my number!

this number can call me between 1 n 5 times a day 1st call around noon ... sick of answering phone and it been them no idea were they got my number from as iv changed my number to get rid of calls like this

They also ring our number 3-5 times a day , so annoying. I try to ignore them but my family starts complaining that I dont answer the phone. Now dont know what to do, answer or not?
