Calling from yellow pages- sorry they call themselves yell.com now don't they? Free listing blah blah, asking you to confirm generalised information- we have a small hotel, is it "12 rooms you have" etc.
I advertise with Yell and can edit my own add-  this dude says I need to call them.
Please be aware and read the previous advice.
These A*** HOLES are clever and will cost you money, as someone advises, play them at there own game, act dumb or say yes all the time, my wife sometimes talks about the weather for 10 minutes....
Get a real job instead of trying to scam people please, or you can come round my house to conduct your "survey"- see how far I can kick your ass over the garden wall, you lowlife scum.

Same here.  They ring constantly - sometimes 5 or more times a day..even on a flamin Sunday!! Like Bigd says, if you have a business listing with Yell.com then you can edit your own ad.  There is no need for these idiotic morons to ring.  It's obviously an automated system but I didn't sign up for this harassment and will not be signing up with Yell ever again.

A lot of companies outsource their call centre operations. I have had a call from 0800371104 today, I didn't answer but they left an answerphone message saying they were calling on behalf of Yellow Pages to check the details re my free listing.

This seems legit enough to me as I have several websites and have requested free directory listings in the past.

They really dont know how to handle it when they ask you how you are, just tell then, not very good, or feeling crap, or a bit so so. They cant cope and often hang up. Failing that going to try the weather tack next, really hope to be able to get the huskies out this year they need a good run. lol

Just had a call from this number, lady claiming to be from Yell.com wanting to update my free listing, even though I dont have a free listing as I pay for large adverts with Yell.... She was asking for personal details, NOT company details... she didn't get what she was looking for, so ended the call...

BEWARE though, when you answer it then rings a number before the message.
If it calls the 0800 number back from your mobile you get charged for the call !!!

Just received a call from these jokers claiming to want to discuss my free listing... I work from home & never advertise my business number to anyone my calls should all come via a different numberaltogether with only my engineers calling direct! They just don't take i'm not interested  as a hint to go away, they are pretty persistant, they even had the nerve to try to get argumentative - i just hung up on them

My number is TPS registered doesn't stop these calls though.

Just noticed I had a call on my mobile phone this morning from 0800371104. Phoned it from my home phone (!) and got a recorded message saying 'sorry all our agents are busy at the moment, please wait'. I didn't, I hung up - it didn't give a company name. I came straight to Google and found this site. Wish  hadn't called the number back but am interested to know who called.

Yellow Pages (or someone claiming to be Yellow Pages) trying to offer a free listing upgrade, then they try to find out more about you and ultimately attempt to sell you a special offer package that is only available for a certain time (they want money the same day).

They quoted £800 for SEO, Yell Profile and a bunch of other things, then brought the price down to £500.

I would strongly advise against purchasing their services. Also, don't waste your time with these guys, they are a pain.

Thanks, Nik.  Yours is the best message on here.  These phone scam companies are the blight of our lives these days - and action needs to be taken against them.  They interrupt our day, the distract us from what we should be doing, and worse still, they can cost us money.
The regulators need to act to close them down - misrepresentation, deception/lying, scam redirection of an 0800 call to a premium rate number, are practices that should be clamped down upon.

Thank you for summarising the numbers concerned and for providing the Ofcom link.  If everyone in this chain were to send their complaint to Ofcom then maybe we can do something to have LBM Direct Marketing (or whoever they purport to be) dealt with appropriately.

And if Ofcom lack the powers or the will to stop this kind of scam, then maybe we need better laws to make it clearly illegal.

Yes - this number has called my mobile three times in the past week.  Twice it had a ringing tone when I answered, then went silent.  This morning I didn't answer and 'Dean' from 'Yellow Pages' left me a voice message saying that he wanted to confirm a free advert entry in the Directory.
I took the advice of Nik, from his post on 8 July, and contacted Ofcom.

So what can be done about these companies who use predictive calling, resulting in some 'silent calls', or who are simply scammers, misrepresenting their purpose, or even who they really are.  Well Ofcom gave some good advice: 1. Register your number with Telephone Preference Service - including your mobile - indicating that you don't want sales calls. 2.  If you receive several silent calls from the same number (such as this one), keep a record and report the occurrences to the Office of the Information Commissioner.   3.  The OIC has the power to charge Telemarketing companies £500 PER SILENT CALL - with the number of complaints on the above chain concerning this company, it's already looking like it could cost them over £50k.  May make them think twice about what it will cost them to disrupt our day!!!

Ok let me clear a few things up here.  This is indeed Yellow Pages and is a Legit Number.

Those of you ranting about "not having a free listing because you pay for your advert"  well,  you're idiots. You get a free listing automatically when you pay for an advert and the reason they are ringing you is because the way free listings are handled is changing.  I know how free listings work from this September onwards but I'm not telling.  You'll have to speak to Yellow Pages next time they call.  Or Call them back,.

All you people ranting about it costing you money to call them back.  You're idiots again - the prefix is 0800 and that's a FREEPHONE number.  It CANNOT cost you money.  Even if they transfer your call it cannot cost you money.  Don't believe me? ask British Telecom.

Yes, Yellow Pages are also yell.com but they are sister companies and while they share call centres and salespersons you have to pay for adverts separately with each company.

(And in case anyone complains about my use of the word "Idiot" the proper definition of the word Idiot is an unlearned or ignorant person and is therefore used correctly in this context).

just had this call, did say they would use my email to send me special offers that may be of interest to me without giving me an option to say no thanks.
Figure its genuine as most of the scam calls I get block their number from 1471.
Asked if I wanted any further yellow pages services and could they put me through to a salesperson , I said no and they said Ok thankyou unlike some that persist with why not etc etc if yo ugive them a chance.

Calling then hang up. This is illegal and should be someone be responsible for allowing this to happen.
Effectivelly you will call them back to check and then you will be robbed trough expensive call.
I am working at night and i need to have my phone on for the kids. How can I sleep when i got these calls?
