I've had the same call many times.  However once they have "checked my listing" (which they seem to want to do every few weeks) the start asking questions like "How many people are employed by the company ...."  They have no need of this information if they are just looking at your entry in the Yellow Pages. This still could be Yellow pages calling you trying to get extra marketing details (which they will then sell), but it is more than likely another company trying to get this information out of you (to sell on). DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM!

These businesses are parasites. As a sole trader I am very fed up with thick tele-sales/marketing people phoning me up five or six times a day.

It's Yell.com All very above board. Offering you update to your listing. Just take all the free stuff and say no to the paid bits. Simples. Generated 27 enquiries for me in 2 months. Not bad for zero outlay :)

Got one of these today. Hung up before I could answer. If I did so I would say no thank you, please don't call again.

Just had a call from this number, had no idea what he said when he introduced himself but he started asking details about our "Business"

I just kept saying, you're through to the SWITCHBOARD, we're a  CITY COUNCIL, we're not a business! He carried on with his script though (How many employees are within your BUSINESS, how old is your BUSINESS, etc!) He took some details such as address, website and switchboard number for the council. And also my name (which I stupidly gave him).

Certainly seemed a little dodgy.

Even if this is legitimate and even if this is actually Yellow Pages I do not want them calling me every day! Over the past 3 years I have easily answered this call from Yell about 10 times and each time I tell them that I no longer have the business that they mentioned to me and still I keep getting these unwanted calls. Personally I do believe that this is Yell.com (or an affiliate) but it is still a sales related call and therefore unwanted.

This number rang me today. When i answered it diverted to another number which was suspect straight away. On the other end was somebody who could speak little english and what they could say was not understandable. I managed to make out that they were calling from Yellow Pages and wanted to check my business details for my free listing. When I told them I was not interested the caller became abusive and very rude. In the end I told them to go f**k themselves.

Why the hell do we have to put up with these scamming tossers who continuously waste our time.

Got a call from this number today, They would not give me a company name just wanted all my business details, Company, address, telephone no and a personal email address.
I hung up on them.

Got a call from these guys today - they hung up on me as soon as I picked up. Not for the first time.

OFCOM needs to read these websites, and do something about this. But they won't. They are useless.

Alternatively, fight back yourself - wrap up a brick with STOP CALLING ME written on it, and send it with no stamp on it to:

Got a call today claiming they are from yell, wanting to update my listing and asking how many employees i have ? I have never had a listing and dont have any employees i said, was then asked for email address and told i could have a free single line listing if i provided my address details.
Hung up at this point as it sounded dodgy.

Thanks for the warning - I didn't pick up. After several telemarketing calls this week, I'm fed up.

I got a voicemail from this number today. A chap with an Indian or Pakistani accent wants to check my free listing in the Yellow Pages, and asked me to call back on a different 0800 number. It could be legitimate, as I've just taken out a free listing with Yell.com, but as has already been pointed out here, they should already have the details which I typed in and double-checked, etc. I've been scammed before by bogus "advertising executives" and have no intention of paying for any more fruitless ads.

Just received a call rom this number who quoted an adadress that I lvied in more thn half a decade ago and I know for a fact that the real Yel.com is  wellup to date with my new address since Ihave spoken to them several times since .  Trust me is a scam!

I had a call just now from  0800 371104. It was Yellow Pages looking to "confirm" my information. I am not a paid member of Yellow Pages though.

They asked if I was willing to get put on their email list for updates. I asked how many and she could not say, so I said no. She then asked if a marketing company could call me back at a later time, I said no.

Sounds like they are really just trying to sell something. I am not convinced they really are Yellow Pages. They may just use that name to gain trust and then get you to agree to receiving tons of marketing spam.

My partner advertises on yell.com and in the Yellow Pages (a paid advert, whereas the caller - a foreign gentleman - was talking about free advertising) and has just renewed his advertising contract for this year. We got a call today from this number and we are sure that this is a scam and they are pretending to be from yell.com/Yellow Pages, but actually have no connection with them - they're just using these directories as a source for contact numbers in order to obtain personal details. I *have* subscribed to Yellow Pages (Yell.com) in the past, so they know me.  They have sometimes called me 'with an urgent offer, it's urgent we speak with you' but at least they know my name and business name.

However, a clearly-scripted message was left by an indian sounding woman today with this Caller ID.  Referred to 'your buisiness' a lot - which, if it really is Yellow Pages, is an interesting change of approach referring to my 'business' instead of my name and company name.

I've had several calls from these people.

Yell are an utter disaster. Pushy sales and very rude staff.. If you have the patience - make them hold for a bit.. cost them money.. !

Otherwise, just hang up as soon as you see the number.

i have just received a call from the above number trying to verify my details with yell.  a couple of sticky questions were fired at them, followed by them ending the call !!

i got few calls from this company and telling me they are trying to update my free listing that they got my details from bt , i told them bt don't use any 3rd party company  , this is the 6 times and some missed calls , today i question the lady as the call seems a long distance call i told her she's not in UK , cos the sound on the line shows is international call , then she told me she is calling from Philippines, and whilst am asking which part of yell .com and why is yell .com keep calling she hang up , then i dial 1471 got her numb , is music been playing for long so i knew is a scam, as the calls and music keep changing is probably transferring me to a premium rate where am getting charged so hanged up
