- TigerlillyWas called by 01604520082 who left a message to call barclays fraud detection on 08003891652. They new my name but no other details. Will comment back if genuine.
- Caller: Barclays fraud detection
- Tin HatRecent call advised that barclays fraud detection had rang and to ring them back on 08003891652. This normally happens when you start spending on a normally quiet card [e.g for Xmas or Birthdays] but does help detect genuine fraud too !!
They never ask you to disclose your bank details just some obvious personal details so don't worry call them back and discuss your last spend to see if genuine? Some of the better banks setup a 'unique' password to save arkward questions via telephone. Ask your bank about this?
Always look for secure 'key logo' on websites before buying with debit cards online. Pick the right cards to pay as Credit Cards offer protection by law but bank debit cards do not !!- Caller: Barclays fraud detection
- Lemming| 1 replyI also missed the call getting an answer phone message to call the number. It seems genuine, the only details they asked me for was the card number (you would need the expiry etc to do anything with it) and they were able to check my card transactions (and a couple of personal details, name, dob). They knew way to much about my card transactions to be fraudulent themselves.

- JWHi
Just received a voicemail asking me to call this number to talk to barclays fraud team. I too did not trust it when i rang, so they suggested i call the number on the back of my visa card. After normal security checks I spoke to the fraud team, and they were simply checking some transactions on my account. They stated that is a very busy period with lots of spending near Christmas and they just want to check that is all kosher.
All was OK....and great that they are checking !
So...Deffo give them a ring if you get the message- but do call the number on your card, if that makes you feel safer.
happy spending !
J - SteveYeah, I had the same experiecen. Being very cagey when it comes to call like this, I expressed me concern and asked them to prove they were who they said. They told me that they could tell from my account, that I'd purchased flights from a certain airline recently and that they'd seen purcahsed in another country the previous weekend. So I knew they were on the level.
They went through a recent number of transactions, turns out some ****er tried to spend £459 in Carphone Warehouse that day on my debit card. Sadly though, they couldn't tell me any more info and CPW couldn't/wouldn't tell me where the delivery address was on the item.
So the 0800 is a genuine number- Caller: Barclays
- Ann| 1 replyI was rung by this number this morning and have since spent about an hour trying to get to the bottom of this by speaking to various different departments at Barclaycard. Barclaycard eventually confirmed that this is NOT one of their numbers and that this must therefore have been a fraudulent caller and that they will investigate this number.
- A PhishInstead of calling this number - CALL YOUR CARD FRAUD SERVICES (not these people), found at the bottom of the back of your card, or on your statements...
DO NOT call this number.
THEY ARE THE POSSIBLY FRAUDSTERS - IF YOU GET A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER, THE FRAUD WILL ALREADY HAVE TAKEN PLACE- Caller: Barclays "Fraud"
- MRung them today, they knew where i had been on such and such a date(i was out of the country) they seemed genuine they said transactions were made in san francisco which seemed suspicious as i live in the UK, so they've cancelled my card. I shall report back here if it never comes ~_~
- MGot new card a few days ago, this IS A GENUINE NUMBER NOT FRAUDSTERS!!! when I rang originially they did ask for my card number but not my valid from or expiry date, nor did i give my sort code CV2 number or anything else not even my name(You would have to give those details for fraudsters to make transactions etc) once I told them the number they knew who I was etc. So basically 08003891652 is definately GENUINE! dunno what the person who posted above is talking about tbh.
- Caller: Barclays Fraud Team
- barry hodsonCalled the number today and it's 100% genuine. Used the card last night in a take away and, apparently someone had been trying to spend enormous amounts of my money today.
Well done Barclays.- Caller: Barclays Fraud Team
- twinhouse2006Phone call recieved from 'Barclays Fraud Dept', Asking for my partner. wouldn't give me any details of what it was in relation to as I wasnt the card holder. Asked me to pass message on to get him to ring this number. checked the number was genuine using this site, so thank you people!!! Turns out he has had £500 scammed out of his account. Not sure when or where they got the details, but we wont be doing anymore shopping online, thats for sure! I advise you ring the number asap!!
- Caller: Barclays fraud squad
- EddyI got a letter with the 0800 number and imediately assumed it was a scam so i rang barclays directly and after a few minutes of checking i was informed that the letter was in fact genuine from barclays fraud team and that a caution had been applied to the card due to unusually high activity.
but its best to check letters like this just in case. - NickI had to wait on the phone for a few minutes but I managed to confirm with barlcays staff that this is thier geniune number. They should really put it online so people can confirm that easier. You just can't be too careful these days.
- Caller: Barclays Fraud Department
- Sam JThis is a genuine number (08003891652) as i work for barclaycard fraud detection. 0800389665 is the number for barclaycards and the other number is for debit cards. Alot of our departments are based in Mumbai in India and only have the number for the fraud detection team based in India which deals with low risk accounts and do not deal with the two numbers I have previously stated. If anyone is wary about ringing the number left by one of our outbound team members then you can ring the number on the back of your credit or debit which should be lost or stolen and then ask to speak to fraud detection. At least 70% of the time if there is a message left or your card is blocked then there will be confirmed fraud on your account. Obviously we cannot prove who we are over the phone unless you ring the number on the back of your card as we cannot disclose personal or transactional information on yoursleves, for a start if we told you a recent transaction you had made and it turned out to be frauduelnt then you wouldnt believe it was ourselves and futhermore we cannot give out personal details without taking you through security due to data protection as we first need to establish if we are speaking to the actual cardholder as we do often speak to fraudsters over the phone to increase credit limits, unblock cards etc.....
08003891652 is a GENUINE number it is for barclays fraud department which is also the same as barclaycard fraud department. You wont find these numbers of the internet or on the barclays or barclaycard webistes due to the fact that the number given online is for the India based call centre.
08003891652 is based in Northampton,England and is the direct number.
Also...anybody who goes overseas with their card and not letting barclaycard or barclays this will most probably result in cards being blocked due to the high amount of overseas fraud going on this year.
Hope this helps with any queries.- Caller: Barclaycard Fraud Detection

Do not call this number, instead like others have suggested, call your Barclays branch and ask them to forward your call to their fraud department.
You can NEVER be sure how legit these calls are, EVEN FROM RATED POSTERS ABOVE!!
PLAY IT SAFE, Call the number at the back of your issued card! - John BYes its genuine! =]
if in doubt call the number on the back of your card - QueenieA message was left on my answer machine from am Asian man who said he was ringing from Barclays Fraud Protection Dept. I rang this number and an Asian woman answered. The first thing she asked for was my card number. I said if you are who you say you are, you will have my card number already. She put me on hold then asked for my postcode, all the while saying that there had been fraudulent purchases made with my card. I asked what these purchases were, surprise surprise she wouldn't say unless she had all my details. Failing to get these, she asked me to confirm the name on my joint account - I don't have a joint account. She asked for my address and who I live with. I TOLD HER [***] ALL. For the record I had already been in a Barclays branch that day, the assistant told me there were no notes on my account warning of fraudulent use(there should be if there is any suspicious activity) and that real Barclay callers never say why they are ringing. I cancelled my card immediately just incase. I rang the number on the back of the debit card and an advisor told me that Barclay call centres in India CANNOT use 0800 to contact customers. ALWAYS CONTACT YOUR BRANCH BEFORE RINGING THIS NUMBER - I am glad I did.
