If any one has seen the phone Jacker on E4, I guess they took the script from there, " Hello am calling from your Bank" Bull Sh** it even sounded like the guy with the same voice no Joke, also sounded like they where on a mobile phone.  My concern is they have got my details from somewhere, will pope into my branch today and find out more.

    Still Not Sure Myself
I am very confused. I had the same call as mentioned above - I went through the security check and was told my card had had fraud attempts on it, they said they would cancel it for me and send me a form to complete and send back in. Naturally suspicious I called the bank the next day and asked if they give out 0800 numbers as call back numbers for the fraud team - the man said no they do not and also that no notes had been left on my account about a fraud attempt. I canceled my card and asked for a replacement - I was then transfered to another person who i told the 0800 number to again, she rang it and said it was genuine, however my card had not been canceled until moments before when I called. 2 Barclays staff gave me completely different answers. So definitely call the fraud number as listed on their website or on the back of your card.

This is a con!  The recorded message sounded genuine, however, the first details they asked me for was my debit card number! Barclays would NEVER ask for your debit card details!!

Look yeah, for all those people who dont believe the 08003891652 number is genuine, IT IS! i work for the department and its based at the head office of Barclaycard in Northampton. Its the number us agents quote when we have to leave a message because nobody has answered the phone and we will never ask for bank details when WE call you, only a simple security check. the same also applies for +441604614812, that is the overseas number for Barclaycard/Barclays fraud detection!

    The number is GENIUNE!

I, being gullible, phoned this number believing it to be genuine.  they asked me the card number (not exp date) and confirmed a few purchases that had been made on the card.  They told me someone had used my card to spend £1 to Apple on that day.  I said I'd made no such purchase and they said they'd cancelled the card.

Later on that night, I panicked, thinking that the phone call itself may have been fraudulent.  I went on Barclays website and found out that the number for their fraud dept was different and had already closed so I couldn't get through to them.

I phoned the 24 hour line on the back of my card and was eventually transferred to someone.  I asked him about the number and the bloke on the end of the line said that the number that contacted me WAS GENUINE.  He then double checked that the card had been cancelled on the system and it had.

I don't know why people are posting comments saying it's fraudsters.  My mind has now been put at ease.  However, in the future I will only contact the number on my card to be safe.

    DON'T WORRY, IT'S REAL

Had message on ansaphone for husband today using the 0800 no..  Barclays Fraud called him direct on his mobile too, so he had already spoken with them before I got the message at home.  It was re: a number of amazon purchases he had made in one go but amazon had put them through separately at 10 sec intervals with made Barclays suspicious. The number seems legitimate, but I guess always err on the side of caution and use no. on back of card.

I got a call from this number 5 mins after ordering from Amazon. They knew it was an amazon order. Rang them back, they did not ask for any information other than the card number and they were able to demonstrate knowledge of where I had been on business. Legit.

This number is genuine. I had a message left for me but was suspicious so I tried to log in to my online banking and found it didn't work (as I later found out my debit card had been stopped). I rang the online banking number who saw the card had cautions in place and they transfered me to fraud detection and it turns out they had stopped my card because I had been christmas shopping last night on the internet and they thought that it may be fraudulent activity. Just shows I don't spend money much on frivolous things!

Message was left to contact "Barclays Fraud." I called them after trying to access my account, unsuccessfully, on line. The operator advised that this was because the card had been deactivated until recent purchases could be confirmed as ok. The recent purchases did check out and funnily enough after waiting the recommended 10 minutes I was able to log in to online banking again.... It's genuine..

This is a legit number for Barclays' Fraud Detection Centre. I originally was worried that a message sent to my mobile phone (odd), referring to this number, was a scam I tried to access my bank account to find it was blocked. In the end I called up, confirmed a few purchases were legit and my account was unblocked within 10 minutes.

This occured shortly after an MP3 purchase from Amazon.

    hi,
I actually work for the barclaycard fraud department and well, first of all this number is a geneuine number to speak to the fraud department. i have been reading this string for a while now and have made a note of all the issues that have been raised and hope to clarify this matter once and for all.

Firstly, a gentleman in this string raised the issue that Barclays have not offshored their business to india and hence he shouldn't be getting this call form someone in india. can i just take this oppertunity to say that Barclays hasn't offshored but some of barclaycard's departments (such as the fraud department) have.

Secondly, the issues surrounding the questions that are asked by operaters in this department. while i'm not going to go into too much details i will make some clarifications. Barclaycard Customer services are allowed to ask simple questions which may get asked if you were in the bank (Mother's middle name and DOB) whereas in the fraud department the security is a bit more strict and other questions are asked (such as a password on an a/c if you have one) and other varies questions which go 'beyond' the norm. in the fraud department, the very first thing tought to us is that we are the last line of defence between our c/h (card/holder) or customer and a potential fraud. so we don't rely on the normal questions of security.

having said this I understand that there may still be a few people who don't believe this (afterall i myself could be a fraudster and could be leading you into a false sence of security etc. but the comment about ringing the number on the back of the card is a very good idea. if i get questioned by a customer as to who i am i just tell them to ring the number on the back of their card and ask to speak to the fraud department.

Finally good luck to everyone, i hope i have helped a little. I don't normally get involved in strings like this but felt it my duty to help anyone who may be sceptical to this matter.

    GOOD LUCK AND MARY XMAS!!!!!

    PS. 0800 389 1652---IF YOU HAVE A DEBIT CARD
       0800 318 665---IF YOU HAVE A CREDIT CARD
I HAVE KEPT MY IDENTITY A MYSTRY. I AM AWARE OF THAT.

    Many Thanks

This number was left on my machine for my dad to call back. I phoned the normal barclays number and asked them to confirm it, which they did, and then phoned my dad to give him the message and number.

Suffice to say, he wasn't suprised when I told him (His card had been refused and he had been trying to get hold of the right bit of barclays). If your not sure, call one of your banks known numbers, and ask to be put through to the team. Or, if you prefer to actually get through to the correct team, ask them to confirm the number is genuine, and assuming they do, call them.

I would personally love to know why the people who are saying this is not a legit are doing that. Is it just trolling, or do you have some beef with barclays? Seriously, I'm curious whats in it for you.

I had a message like this on my voice-mail. Instead of calling the number given, I phoned Barclay's main number and asked to be passed through to the fraud prevention line. Having got through, they confirmed the time of the earlier call and explained the reason for the call (certain buying patterns triggered an alert). My debit card was unstopped within 15 minutes or so.

In short, it was not a scam, but avoiding using the number left on my voice-mail meant I was not at risk.

    GENUINE !
I had few doubts, it's true - you won't find this phone no on their website but I've spoken to Barclays, they confirmed that the number is genuine.
All they ask you is card no (without expiry date or security code) and some basic info like which petrol station do you use most often or your mobile provider. They knew about my few big transactions over the weekend and just wanted to confirm it.
Glad they've got the team on a ball!

Anyway if still in doubt - why read all this messages - call Barclays and ask them!

cant believe B'card are so stupid as to use messages such as this.  But they are.  There was NO WAY I was responding to such a call but rang customer services and there was a (happily non problematic) issue on my card.....  What a way to do business

Just used this number, they seemed to be genuine as they knew about three genuine transactions I'd made earlier - not something a scammer would have had access to.

The call does indeed go to an Indian call centre which made me come on to this site and type in the number whilst I was speaking. My card had been barred by Barclays the previous week so I was kind of expecting a call from them.

They asked for my long card number which I gave...they then read out a list of my recent purchases. These were tiny amounts which I had to confirm. then they said I had passed the validation check and the bar would be lifted from my card within 10 minutes.

Still confused as to why my card was barred in the first place?

the number seems to check out ok though

This does not appear to be fraudulent.

I received a call from this number earlier today.

The caller did not identify himself, got my name wrong, and asked me to call 0800 389 1652 and 00441 1604 614 692 if I was abroad.

The caller ID (I have an iPhone) showed as "Blocked.

When I called the number, they answered "Barclays Fraud Detection."  I was a bit suspicious at this point, so I responded that I would call them back.

The Fraud detection number given on the Barclays contact us page ( http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/b ... =3660&menu=3132 ) was 0845 7555 555, so I called that number instead.

After describing the situation to them, I  was put through to the Fraud Detection department.  There had indeed been a couple of fraudulent transactions on my card.

I am convinced that this is a genuine number.

That said, Barclays should list this number on the website.  The should also train their call centre employees better (or start using a new call centre).

People, don't pannick! 08003891652 is the direct line number for Barclays Fraud Prevention and the caller leaves this number to save you from having to go through the call centre first. I told them they should publish the number on their site to ease confusion but they mumbled some soft excuse.
Still, for peace of mind you can call the number on the back of your card and go through them, but to reiterate the number was confirmed to be legitimate by the fraud dpt so please don't stress!
