I have two lots of calls from this number, from a very persistent man who says he is calling from Microsoft Help PC On Line.

He insists that he works on behalf of BT, TalkTalk and others to help speed communication problems with the internet.

He is calling me back on Monday and wants me to switch my computer on to go through the problem.

Is this for real or a con?

Same experience as Snowy. He said his name was Shaun or Sean but had a very strong Indian accent. I took his details and told him that I would call him back before reporting it to the police.

I was called on 3rd Sept (four times while I was out) on the fifth occasion i was in and a person who gave a very English name but had a stong Indian accent tried to get me to switch on my computer for him to access, saying that I had complained to Microsoft  of slow running computer. and he had a service run bby Microsoft to help with any computer problem. at no cost. He claimed that I had complained to my ISP (about speed) but said it was TalkTalk, which it isn't.

Interesting. I had the same call this afternoon from an Indian sounding man who said his name was Smith (or something similar I couldn't make out his name clearly....) and he was calling from an agency who worked on behalf of Microsoft and he could improve my computer performance.

When I said I was uncomfortable about allowing him to do anything to my computer as I did not know who he was, he repeated his credentials, However I replied that this was only his word and I wanted to verify his call further. He asked how was I going to be able to do this from where I was. I said I did not know but I was not going to proceed any further and wanted to end the call.

I found the whole call very strange.

Absolute con!!!! Do not get caught out. They ask you to run a program to check your computer. Do not do this. It then says your computer needs fixing from virus's etc. They then want you to download a program that that gives them control of your computer, and they say that they clean it up for you, then they charge you £90+. Don't waste your time. Just tell them you know its a con and hang up. Read the article below for the main facts. They called me from 0340 09054, and referred me this number, 08009770035 as a helpline. Was an Indian sounding bloke whose name was Jack Wills!!!! Very pushy and persuasive. And their website was helppconline.com (don't go to this please)

If this helps just one person not to get stung I'll be a happy man, but I'm hoping this helps many more.

Call this afternoon from a lady saying she was calling as Microsoft had give our name (she indicated a person in the singular but this is an office) and that our computer was running slow, and they could help.

Having heard of this sacam, I stalled and confused her by saying that my computer was running better than ever and that I could not keep up with the speed of the internet (laugh laugh).  I insisted on a number which she reluctantly gave as 0800 977 0035.  The same as other similar scams.

Can we report these people for misuse of selling or something similar?  Perhaps to Trading Standards?
Thinking about it, I should have asked her to repeat her name and company, log the time of the call and check with caller dispaly etc as this is good evidence to hand to Trading Standards.

Called at 13.00 22st October by supposedly Hayden/Hydon George (calling from India) - very similar stories to above - when asked where he got my number from he said Talktalk (I am with Talktalk) he also gave me a number 02033180526 if I wanted to call his supervisor - which I will not be doing !!!
Perhaps there's one too many p's in there name should be Help con line !

Had the same nonsense today. A call from "Hayden George" with a strong Indian accent saying that microsoft had referred me to them (Help PC Online) as my IP address had reported problems with my computer slowing down blah blah.  I only had this phone number 2 months, it's ex-directory and I never use it! I don't even know what it is (and nor does anyone else) How did they get it? The only people who should have it is British Telecom.

After listening to 5 minutes of Hayden's tosh I told him I didn't want any of his help and we ended the call.

He gave me the numbers 08009770035 and 02033180527 both of which go to the same computerised message taking you to "1 for sales or 2 for tech support"

To be fair it wasn't that hard sell but it was dishonest and I want to know how they got my number.

I checked their website and the alleged address for their premises on Google Street Maps. It's just a cul-de-sac with some terraced houses in!!

END THE CALL. DON'T EVEN WASTE TIME EXPLAINING YOURSELF.!

This scam has been going on for a long time, I got my 2nd call today and played along. Kept the guy on the phone for about an hour, they are very persistent, if you don't want to play their game just tell them you don't own a computer or you have a Mac.

I told him I was running Win98 and he had to go and ask if he could still 'help' me, ran through the usual 'run eventvwr' and see your 'trojans'. A bit of fun in the afternoon.

Same old call so they're still going!  Hedon George is who I think he said he was.  Ended call as I couldn't understand him anyway.  Wish I'd made him hang on.

I have received three calls from a gentleman with an Indian accent calling himself Adam Johnson regarding my computer being slow and loss of internet connection (which does occur).  He said he worked on behalf of Microsoft who had advised that there was a problem with my computer.  No mention of monies for the service was made, but I found the calls, over three days, and his manner, persistent. Had I proceeded I would have assumed that this was a free service.  However, fortunately I took their number, 0800 977 0035, and said I would take some advice and call back (He even called me an hour after I had taken his number to say I had not returned his call!!).  I then spoke to my son, who is a qualified Microsoft Engineer, and he advised of this scam.  I am sure many people are caught by this scam, especially with the mention of representing Microsoft.

    One question to you.

Please explain to us all how exactly this crowd singled you out as having an issue with your pc.

Now i'm guessing he rung out of the blue, so you have to ask yourself a few questions before your go any futher.

I would not trust any company that rang me and said I had a problem with my lawn mower, let alone my pc.

You work for the crowd, thats obvious, dont spam your crap here as well.

    Help,
I've also had a call this morning and ran throught he whole process of the free check with the Indian speaking lady. I believed her as we had reported our computer running slow to Talk Talk. When I saw all the errors showing up I thought it was legitimate.  Thankfully I passed her to my husband who had just returned home and he said no to paying a monthly payment on DD.  Will they have done aything to my computer or got any personal details.  I'm really worried.

    @David.

I call foul and complete hogwash. This outfit is a total con and they can get at userids and password. To Helen, change all your passwords for email access and bank access details.

They connect to a user's computer using various methods (like TeamViewer) and can take control and install all sorts of things.

I've just had a call from Haydn George. same description. Got our details through us reporting slow connection online.Yeah, whatever. Started off almost plausible. Whilst he was on the phone I punched in his number, and then mentioned some of the results listed here, then hung up. He still rang back twice, but we pointed out that he was now harassing us. Now onto our phone provider to see what they can do.

everyone below it seems is very wise but for those too trusting a people my advice is:-

NEVER EVER  respond to a cold call ( who doesn't get error reports on their computer ) not even by ringing them back after checking them out. Always make first contact and then only to throughly researched, tried and trusted sources.

I got a call this morning ( number witheld ) from an Indian accented man ( Adam Johnson )  and yes he said that I had sent an error report and that he was working with microsoft and will fix my computer problems.
I took two numbers from him. The other was 02033180526.
