You can spin them along for a half hour while your PC boots up and you can't find the right keys, and so on, and what's this "eventVWR" they want you to run? And what are all these scary warning messages? And by the way how do I know you're genuine? Click, the phone suddenly went dead.

Hi! I feel incredibly stupid, as I took one of these calls yesterday. At first I was very wary, but these people are very very persuasive. I spoke to a gentleman who said his name was Jack Bason, who had a very strong indian accent, and I asked for further details,he gave the address as 3 Midhurst close, High Street, Crawley. Along with the telephone number 0800 977 0035.
He went on to say that my ISP had reported to them that my pc was running slower than it should, (which to be fair, it is). At the time, the pc was switched off, so I fired it up, Jack commented that it was taking a long time to start. He asked me to press the windows button next to Ctl and the 'R' key together, he then asked me to type in 'eventvwr' which took me to a page that showed lots of info with various coloured alerts, blue, yellow and red. There were alot, which did alarm me, and Jack showed great interest that it was very worrying and that he would be able to help me and repair my pc. He then asked me to repeat pressing the windows button and 'r' ,  then he asked me to type  'iexplore www.helppconline.com' :  it would not connect, Jack then told me he was unable to help and ended the call. HOW STUPID AM I !!!    I've taken advice from a dear friend who has assured me that because I have not downloaded anything from this scam that my pc should be safe. PLEASE PLEASE BE WARNED THESE PEOPLE ARE VERY PERSUASIVE.  It left me feeling physically sick for the rest of the day.

A guy with broken english called from "Tech on Tech" (that's how the name sounded)to say I have a problem with my PC Windows and they have to fix it. I said"Oh,that's odd,do you know what computer I have". He said Microsoft Windows.
I said"well I don't see any logo for Microsoft OS on my computer, because it is MacBook with OS 10.6.7.
Thank you for the fraudulent call".
I was going to play along a bit more asking what exactly needed to be fixed. But I had other things to do.
But this was one of those India calls from a guy reading from a boilerplate document.

Just received a call from 'John Williams', also with a heavy indian accent, saying my PC was running slow etc and asking me to turn it on so he could talk me through removing the files and viruses that were causing the problem. He said my PC would be damaged in 23 hours. He gave me the company name, and address and the same 0800 phone number as above. I ended the call and then dialled the 0800 number, talked to someone else who gave me the company registration number : 7390129.

They called my 77 year old mother this lunchtime.

Fed her a string of lies from the start, telling her that her computer was full of viruses and if they didn't deal with it immediately, she'd lose everything.

Luckily, although they did convince her to start up the computer, the guy's (Indian) accent was so strong (plus her hearing is a bit wonky!) she misheard the web address and eventually got suspicious, shut her machine straight down and hung up on them and called me immediately.  I've worked in ICT education for some years and, for a short while, sales too, and the way they tried to frighten and manipulate her is dreadful.

I've since looked at their site and it's atrocious!  Half the links don't work, and it's appallingly worded throughout.

I'll be reporting them to BBC Watchdog - if enough of us do, maybe they'll pick it up and run with it...

Just had a call myself from that same number but the guy (with Indian Accent) Jason Smith.
This morning my gmail sent out numerous emails to people on my contact list (very mysterious)
So I have been running my anti virus to cure the problem.  Jason Smith asked me to access my event viewer (run and enter eventvwr) then open application - sure enough this shows I have problems but possibly caused by a virus they unleashed at the time my email went funny.

I just hope I can solve the application issues myself but obviously not parting with any money as I told them I do not know who they are except they gave me their website www.helppconline.com.
    Be aware!

Yes guys this fellow is very persistant. This Andy Wills? with a strong Indian accent has called me around 5 times over the last week even my wife. To that end have never allowed him any access to my PC. They are running this scam from 'Helppconline'. I asked him for his details and gave me: 0203 026 3248, a technical support number of: 0800 977 0035 and an office location of: No. 4 Century House,
Rear Ground Floor, Leicester, Leicestershire. LE2 0QS.

I rang my ISP to double check and they confirmed it was a scam and to reoport it to Actionfraud.org.uk. This website will redirect you to Consumer Direct also.
He got very angry and tried to bully me but it cut no ice with me as I gave as good as so I hung up.

Just had a message on my answerphone which was difficult to decipher but again was from an Indian chap by the name of Roger (yeah right!).  He again gave the number to call back of 0800 977 0035, which prompted me to look it up on this website, which I am glad I did.  I would like to know how they got this number as we have only been this number for a matter of weeks and we are ex-directory.  I hope Sky are not selling my details.

The Indian guy who called me, on behalf of TalkTalk being fully Microsoft qualified, was "called" Gabriel O'Connor. Nice Irish name. Whats an Irish guy doing with a strong Indian accent?... I wondered, for not very long. I work in IT and him wanting to connect to my laptop sent my alarm bells ringing all the way to India, via Ireland of course.

CON CON CON, this is called HACKING. Never ever ever allow anyone to connect to your PC remotely. (Unless you are at work and your IT department connects to your work PC to offer IT assistance, of course)

Had a call today from a Robin Smith (strong asian accent) working for a company called helppconlineltd, based in Leicester. He said they were working on behalf of microsoft, BT & Talktalk and that they had understood by computer was running slow. He went through all his speal and eventually said it would cost £6 a month to use their repair service. I became suspicious, hung up and rang Talktalk. They deny all knowledge of being associated with this company SO BEWARE!!

Just got one of these calls from Jason Smith (the indian one) 0800 977 0035 - managed to keep him on hold for 20 minutes while 'starting' my PC - they are all a bunch of complete con artists and the longer you can string them along without actually going anywhere near your PC the better. If ANYBODY cold calls don't ever respond or give out anything personal - simple rule.

A lady with strong indian accent called from this number at first. I doubted whether she was genuine or not. After an hour a gentleman, Ricky John, who had strong Indian accent too, referring to the previous lady's call insisted to register and get user name & password to access his service.

Ricky John also gave me his company details as following. But I still have doubt if they are genuine.
