- Sun| 3 repliesGot a message:"This is Barclays Fraud Prevention. Please contact us urgently on 0845 351 2288 " .Want to know the telephone number is legal or not ?Anyone know?
- Jason| 4 repliesYes this is Barclays
- Caller: Barclays
- Barclays customer replies to Jason| 1 replyThis is Barclays Fraud Prevention. It made me panic so I called the Barclays number on their website to check. It comes through after you have used your card for several transactions that have not required your pin number, eg. over the phone/online. You need to call Barclays to confirm that you have made the transactions. If as suspicious as me just call the number from Barclays website to reassure yourself.
- lee1101| 1 replydidnt call the number in the text..called barclays myself to be told nothing was wrong so to ignore it......
- Caller: barclays ????
- Call type: Text message
- Tiger replies to lee1101Same here. I asked the guy I spoke to if it was a Barclays number and he said definitely not. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER. Call a number on the Barclays website and ask to be put through to the fraud department if you get this message.
- Jaz replies to Jason| 1 replySorry mate, you've been duped. This is not BARCLAYS. Fraud alert!
- Li| 1 replyGot a suspicious call from 08453512288 to my home number claiming from "Barclays Fraud Prevention" and asking "press any key to continue". I hang up it then immediately sent the following message to my mobile number "This is Barclays Fraud Prevention. Please contact us urgently on 0845 351 2288".
- Caller: Barclays Fraud Prevention
- Kath replies to Barclays customerHi, had the same message come through this morning - as text, voicemail and a missed call on landline. Contacted Barclays on 0845 7555555 who said they were not aware of any problems on my account and to disregard. Barclays could not confirm that this number was one of theirs so my advice would be to ring Barclays direct rather than return the call.
- MarkusI also just got an unexpected SMS: "This is Barclays Fraud Prevention. Please contact us urgently on 0845 351 2288 (Sender: Barclays)"
Never trust unsolicited messages that claim to come from your bank. In particular, do not click on any links or call any numbers given in these messages. Most often these are fraudulent "phishing" messages. Contact your bank only via the telephone numbers or URLs on your banking card, on the banks website or on your account statements. - ColinHi all,
I was worried about this number, as I had a missed call and then the same text from them. I checked it on this website and didn't know what to make of it!
So I have just phoned the official Barclays number from their website, made sure my account was ok, and then queried this phone number too. The man I spoke to verified that this was the Barclays Fraud Prevention Team, and so should I receive this text in the future it will be fine to phone them back directly.
So this number is ok. But if ever unsure about texts, especially about money or fraud information, it seems common sense to call an official number first.- Caller: Barclays Fraud Prevention Team

- JamieI received a text message from this number immediately after trying and failing to take some money out of an ATM in Malaysia. Whoever sent me the message was obviously able to monitor my activity, so it's probably genuine.
- Jamie| 1 replyI called the fraud prevention department, going via the main Barclays number. They just said my card was fine and didn't have any information or record of sending me a message. However I still think the message is genuine because it was sent so quickly after I used the ATM. It seems that Barclays it just being very incompetent and disorganised and not keeping proper records.
- NiteshIt appears to be genuine as I called Barclays Fraud dept through their main telephone number. They did say that there were some unusual transactions (somebody tried to take 74pence several times) so had to get my card stopped & issue a new one.

- RobHad an SMS from this number following on from a phone call from 08453512291. Both the text and SMS claimed to be Barclays fraud prevention. Checked these number against the ones on their web site - no match. They rang again so this time I answered - computerised speech saying from Barclays fraud but then proceeded to give a woman's name so I hung up. Called Barclays official number from their web site and to cut a long story short neither they or Barclaycard could confirm whether this was a genuine number or not but said as far as they knew they had not tried to contact me. I have just changed mobile number and they didn't have the new number so unsure whether this is an admin error some type of phishing! Have been given another number to ring tomorrow during normal working hours so I'll see how I get on and post reply here.

- Barclays customer| 2 repliesIT'S FRAUD!!!! Got the same thing today, and an attempt was made to take payment from my account. Fortunately, I hardly use the account, and there's no funds in there so it failed.
DO NOT ANSWER IT, DO NOT GIVE YOUR DETAILS, CONTACT BARCLAYS IMMEDIATELY!!!
The number is 0845 351 2288 - THIS IS FRAUDSTER, NOT BARCLAYS!! - JaneyHad the same call and sms message today, called Barclays Fraud and after a long hold was finally put through to an english speaking person as first two were asian and I refused to speak. This is a genuine fraud call, they will have declined a suspect transaction on your account. I was also given another number to call which is free and takes you straight to fraud dept 0800 389 1652 and is also free.
As it turns out it wasnt a fraud but my son using my card with my permission to buy a game online which wasnt in UK currency.

- Barry Parsons replies to SunDO NOT IGNORE THIS MESSAGE
I had the same voice and text messages. I cannot confirm whether the number is genuine. However, I confirm that I have been a victim of fraud. I checked on the Barclays website searching under "Barclays fraud prevention" and got the following number from the Barclays website at: http://www.barclays.co.uk/Helpsupport/Mobileandtelephonyfraud/P1242560037901
0845 755 5555 Mobile and telephony fraud
There had been a problem with my card over the last two days and I rang this number and they where able to confirm that my card had been used fraudulently for very small amounts (£1 or £2). Barclays have stopped my card and will send me a new one. DO NOT IGNORE THIS MESSAGE, but do ring the above number instead of the one provided just in case. They will be able to help without putting yourself at risk. Good luck. ACT NOW, DON'T DELAY!!! - Barry Parsons replies to JamieThat's what they told me too when I rang the online fraud telephone number. They were wrong and incompetant. My card had been used for fraud as I found out when I rang the fraud number which I got from the Barclays website.

Ring 0845 755 5555 Mobile and telephony fraud.
They will sort you out. - MrsW| 1 replyIt is GENUINE.... call your bank.
I have had the call and the text this morning so I looked it up to see if it was genuine and found this site. I then called Barclays main number, I spoke to one guy who said there was nothing wrong but asked him to put me through to the fraud dept for me to check.
Spoke to the fraud dept and she said yes that 0845 351 2288 is them and that my card was flagged up because I made a contactless payment this morning then 2 payments to the same charity one after the other. I asked why they send text and automated messages as this does sound suspicious when recieved and she explained that it was a more effective way of getting in touch with bank holders quickly.... which it is because I did call in but on their main number. I know a lot of people ignore their bank if it calls these days so it seems to make sense!!
She has now taken the "flag" off my card. I asked what would happen if people didn't call back and she said they'd send a letter.- Caller: Barclays
- MrsW replies to Barclays customerThat's the point, your account had a fraud attempt on it which is why they called you!!
I checked the number with the fraud dept and it is genuine.
