Thanks, Spider, cancelling the SMS delivery is perfect for me as I only receive them from the debt collectors anyway. ;-)

Reminder to anyone else: Phone BT on 0800 587 5252 and then select option 1, to change your phone line's SMS settings, followed by option 5, which blocks all further SMSs.

I received a call from this number at 23.11 hours last night!!!!! Can they do this?

Been getting calls from 08456021111 recently. Very disturbing for my family, as some calls border on explicit!  Telephone companies should be able to block this kind of depraved activity from intruding on peoples' private phone lines!

To turn off the BT sms service there is a BT freephone number 0800 587 5252. Choose option 1 then option 5. it takes 20 minutes after call to activate

ITs only somebody sending a text message to your landline. Absoloutly nothing to worry about !

Got a message from this number - an sms message - do not like these and would like to stop them but do not know how.

I've received texts on my landline several times before from friends and I never thought to check what number they came from. But yesterday this number called loads of times and I only managed to answer once. When I did there was no automated lady or anything explaining that there was a message for me. Straight away there was just the sound of someone exhaling, I know it's hard to tell from a breath but it sounded to me like a male! Who knows. Anyway, obviously I asked who it was a few times, there was no reply but there was that 'somebody there' sound. It didn't sound empty like a cold caller. I put the phone down and it rang twice more but I missed it both times (my phone is upstairs).
It just rang again now as I type and it was the lady with a text!! 1471d and it was that number.
So it seems like a simple business really. But in the house alone last night, I was concerned about the breathing sound, mixed with the persistence. Maybe they have people on the other end that make the calls, then switch the lady on?? That seems ridiculous.

Thanks!! Keep getting calls from this to my business line. It is very annoying when trying to run an office! Have followed advice to remove this facility from this line. I could understand if this wa a personal telephone number but they are calling a business.

I received a message at 8.14 this morning which said 'this message'! This number keeps ringing and they are nuisance calls

This number is a text to landline delivery service operated by bt i was checking on here because i recieved a call from 08456021111 im not with bt im with virgin but after doing a good search on google i found this number on virgin media website where it states what it is and also that it is not operated by them.the service allows you to receive txts to your landline as well as sending them from a compatible handset so yh this number is legit. and the 07953 966 066 is also legit but is only for virgin and t-mobile customers heres thelink to the page where i found this information http://www.virginmedia.com/help/telephone/virgin-media-text.php .

as said, its just a bt voice text message service, so if someone tx,s your landline this bt service will phone you till you listen to the tx

Called by 08456021111 at 10.20 last evening. BT MESSAGING SERVICE. The message was in fact  obcene. Who are these morons and how can they be traced?

Being hassled day and night by this number..unplugged my phone in the end for my newborn baby sleeping!

WHY AREN'T YOU PEOPLE READING THE COMMENTS ON THIS PAGE TELLING YOU WHAT THIS NUMBER IS BEFORE YOU POST YOUR 'OMG this is terrible - why is this number calling me inthe middle of the night. Someone should string these people up etc' messages?

It is a BT service. You only get called by it if someone sends a text message to your landline (often done by mistake, actually). It cleverly converts the text message to voice and reads it to you.

Now, all chickens please note: replace heads and continue life as usual.
