It is horrid and I am sure BT could do something about it.  but in the meantime do what I did I stopped it by calling BT ,Ring 0800 587 5252, listen to some BT waffle, then choose option 1 and then option 5 to stop all SMS messages being sent to your number.

Received a text to say that the government had advised them to be aware of fake olympic tickets but that they had ones for the triple jump that seemed ok.  Bizarre!

I received a call from this number this morning after a relative sent a text message to my landline. It was an automatic call from the BT text message service to tell me I had a text message waiting, and the recorded message asked me to select option 1 to hear the message. The text message was then read out.

The number is a SMS service from BT. I received one and it was a reminder from my dentist of a forthcoming appointment. Quite legitimate

It's a BT Text-to-Voice service.  I rang the number and pressed 1 as instructed, and received a voice-text meesage from someone we know.  It even gives the mobile number from where the message was sent from. My advice to BT would be a few TV adverts to let people know what this and other numbers/services are, otherwise we'll all think they are scam calls!

this is a legit BT sms to landline service.

i got one today it was just a message from some company i'd ordered some stuff from telling me the delivery date.
my bad as i'd put my home number in their mobile number contact section.

for those saying you don't get and actual message and keep getting call backs, you have to say something like "hello" (or anything ) to trigger the message. otherwise the system doesn't know there is anyone there to  play the message to.
if it can't deliver the message of course it's going to keep calling you back.

for those of you complaining about the content of the message, you should take it up with the message originator, which this service clearly tells you who sent the message in the first place.

Jeez such paranoia! Its just someone texting a mesage to a landline number. Its run by BT and is an 0845 number and charged at that rate. Just ring it back and press one to hear your message. Its not a scam!

Also its actually very hand if you want to get a message to someone who doesn't have an answerphone.

The number 08456021111 is an SMS text messaging service from BT, basically someone has sent an SMS text from their mobile to your landline.  By ringing the number back you can listen to the text message.

Also you can phone the BT automated service on free phone 0800 5875252 and control the time of the calls via the option menu (option 5 will completely turn it off).

Thankfully it’s not a cold caller as we really hate them, so I hope this post helps.

Was at my dad's when this number repeatedly rang the landline. Every half hour. A real nuisance. My dad answered the first time but it kept ringing. He can't speak well as a result of a stroke and this was annoying and upsetting him.I could hear it ringing like mad from the garden.

In the end, I checked this site and dialed  0800 587 5 252 -  and disabled the service. If anyone wants to get hold of him, then they should just speak. Unfortunately, I think he is plagued by calls all the time. His caller display should help him.

Had a call on this number yesterday and i can confirm it is a BT messaging service that anyone can receive.  The text was from my girlfriend who has a mobile with an emergency call button on the back in case of difficulties.  This system sends texts to my landline, calls my landline and also my mobile phone.

It is true that the service could be used by scammers, so beware.  Calls back to this number to listen to the message are at standard network rates for your service provider, but any calls returned based on the number left in the message are your responsibility.

If you are not sure about the number left by the messaging party, my advice is to ignore the message and delete it from the mailbox.  If the party concerned really needs to get hold of you, they will call again.

This messaging service is free to all people, regardless of network provider, and is perfectly legitimate from BT.  It is only the person leaving the message that you need to be sure about.  Best advice, if it asking you to call a premium rate number, then it will be expensive.  But if you have free calls to other non-geographic numbers, such as 0870 and 0845 then I see no harm in calling back to see what they wanted, but would suggest placing 141 at the beginning of the dialling process to withold your number.
