I've been getting calls from this number and it's becomming very annoying. if it continues i'll be calling the telecommunications ombudsman on 1800 062 058. I suggest you do the same if they continue to hassle you

Just received a call from the number too, it's just Optus wanting to offer you a different plan that may potentially save you some money.

People on here may be a bit slow or something, but if you don't want to receive calls of this nature put yourself on the 'Do not call register' or on the specific company's 'opt out' list.

The other thing is that because of the privacy law company's cannot leave messages on your answering service - It's against the law and for your own privacy protection.

keep getting calls from this number - no message being left. Very irritating.

Are you at near end of your MOBILE OPTUS contracts?

If yes, likley their sales are

1.  trying to make sure you are still with them - not a competitor.

0r,

2. trying to sell you to renew for another 2 years etc.

And, it is increasing with calls; different numbers.

Still happening, and my Optus contract should in theory only be a couple of months old.
I won't bother calling back thanks to this site.
As someone who's done sales before, ringing and then hanging up, expecting a call back is absolutely NOT tought in any respectable sales text-book.

Morons.  Can't wait to leave Optus.

My rules put me in control all the time. at night I switch my phone off, other time when I'm not available I put it on silent, however when it's ok to answer the call but don't recognize the name or number I simply don't answer allowing the caller to leave a message and identify themselves, if them they don't leave a message then I know it's not important do I ignore it.
Now, if you are not on a contract, but you keep your number on month-to-month bases then they will keep harassing you. Change to another provider without hesitation.

Received a miss call from this number this morning it only rings a few times before hanging up.

This number will not stop ringing me.

optus is REALLY bad at customer service.  they ring repeatedly, try to sell you things. But if you call them with a problem with their account they do not call back.
Do NOT use Optus - they are such poor customer service.

There are several methods for dealing with this, in order:
1) Ring Optus and ask to be added to their DO NOT CALL list, which is supposed to be instated immediately;
2) Ensure Optus include notes on your account that you believe this to be harrassment and you will cancell all contracts if this does not stop IMMEDIATELY;
3) go to www.tio.com.au which is the telecommunications watchdog and fill in the online complaint form in about 5 minutes - they may not do anything straight away but enough complaints might lead to something;
4) if Optus call you again have several options: a) let Optus know that you now have grounds to cancel all contracts on the basis of harrassment (which is in your account notes from your first call); b) let Optus know you now also have grounds to report this official harrassment to your local police, and that you have grounds to apply to the Magistrates' Court for an intervention order against the organisation Optus; c) take any or all of these actions as you please!!!
It's very EMPOWERING against indiscriminate HARRASSMENT!!!!!!

Geez Danny, people aren't "a bit slow or something", this service HANGS UP ON YOU IF YOU ANSWER THEIR PERSISTENT DAILY CALLS. I think you may be the "bit slow" one here - read the complaints porperly before you pass your uninformed judgement on others. Or just shut up.

I have received calls from this number for ages now. I have entered the number into my phone as DO NOT PICK UP and changed the ring tone, so I know not to go near it if i hear that particular ring or see that come up on screen. Annoying? YES!

I also received 3 calls from this number have not answered at all after googleing no. I wont answer ever.

I had a call from 0873281888 and the telemarketer said that I was a loyal Optus customer who was nearing the end of my contract. He said that because of my history with Optus they would be able to provide a good incentive to renew my contract. He asked my surname which I thought was odd as he called me from Optus, but I gave it to assure who I was. Then I was asked for my address and date of birth. At this point, I'm starting to doubt that this is a genuine Optus call.  As soon as I challenged it, he politely said "We might leave it there!" and hung up. If this is Optus - Shame! If not, beware as it more dodgy telematrketers wanting to rip off the Aussie public.

Just had missed call from this number, they hung up before I even got a chance to answer it.  Won't bother returning the call after seeing everyones message.

I got the same problem. But i didn't answering....God!!! now I know why this number keep calling me. Because my contract is about to end in June. One thing have anyone get a call from 'Blocked number' nearly the same time with this number 0873281888 or not! I did answer cos I thought is overseas call. but it's not. And they just making fun of me. I think maybe they[Optus] not satisfy when I didn't answer them calls befor!!! >_<*
