    Hi Guy's & Girls.

I have recieved a Phone bill today from Virgin Media. with a bill for £25.62 for a call made to a premium number The call duration was 20min. I believe this to be a scam as no one at home uses this phone to make any out going calls as we have a second line with BT that is free to use all day. So please spread the word.

I called this number from My mobile and it is some Company selling rubbish about horoscopes.

It is known as the Matrics / Matrix. I can not find any further information on this number. Please share if you have had the same scam on your number.

All I can tell you is that when you ring it, they give a brief warning that it will cost £1.50 per min or may vary with mobiles and you must be 18 and ask the bill payer before u make the call. (This is a mans voice with an English accent) imediatly after that a women starts telling you that this a Monthly Matrix Horoscope in a robotic voice. I then put the phone down.

Same has happened to me; same duration and amount in charges. Immediately afterwards (20 minutes later) the speaking clock (123) was dialled.

This again was not me, nor anyone in my household. My phone was out of order at this time...

We are calling virgin tomorrow to try and sort this out; but it must be a scam/someone hacking in on the phone line?

I have just got my bill with the exact same thing. virgin first of all gave me a number 0880500212 - which is the premium rate regulatory body. But they can't do anything as they say its a dispute between me and virgin as i'm saying i never made the call. I've just called virgin again and have been told they can send a technician out to check the phone line and they will be able to check every call that was made as an out going call by stick a computer in to the line, if it shows you didn't make the call it would be credited - however there is a but.....
I said my problem with this is they've bluffed you in the first place in to believing i made this call; how do i know that won't happen again. He was sure that they would be able to tell, but if it comes back saying you have made the call you must pay for the calls and the technician fee which is an additonal £99.
Now i know i didn't make that call, but do i take the hit of £25 or the risk of paying £124 - as if they have the tecnology to bluff the phone line into thinking i made an out going call why would his computer say any different?

The 09041948710 number belongs to a matrix horoscopes which is owned by Switch services the 0800 guys gave me their contact phone number - 0845 652 6522; but before you call it (which i wanted to do to tear some strips of people) remember 0845 is a chargable number, so you could end up with a huge bill trying to get through to the company behind the con.

After all this i'm none the wiser and just very very angry about it all.

Just to join the chorus...exactly the same number on my Virgin Media bill for 20mins of lovely premium rate call.

I'm expecting a call back from Virgin in 48hours...I think if we all complain and register with Virgin that this phantom number has appeared on our bills (call 150 free (!) from your phone) they'll see it's not isolated and give us all a refund.

    Fingers crossed

Same thing here... our Landline does not even work and some how someone has managed to make these calls... I had the same thing as you Mike, Virgin asking me to pay £99 towards an engineer identifying whether or not the calls were actually made. The call was made to 0904 194 8677, when I called this from my mobile it is Matrix Horoscopes.

Hopefully this has got enough exposure now for us to all get our money back.

have just seen exactly same call on my virgin bill - this is why i still get it in paper - otherwise i'd probably have missed it! have called and registered a complaint. expect a call back within 5 days. if they don't pay the money back (no engineer needed!) i will take it up with watchdog and anyone else that will pressure them to sort it out. how many people must be getting scammed every day? i'm in the wrong business... good luck all.

Ditto! My Mother recieved her bill from Virgin, and TA DAH....exactly the same cost and duration. We contacted Virgin and the guy went on Internet, checked, and came back with the name Matrix Horoscopes.  Both Mum and I were at work  the time the call was "made".  I wonder then is this a scam targeting only Virgin customers or has it happened/ is happening to any one else on other networks?

    Hi

it seems that you are all getting caught up by the old scammers (oxyegn8, sorry OITG, sorry Opera Telecom......) keep changing their names for a good reason.

They do the same thing all over the world - If I walked up to you and took £25 out of your pocket, I would get arrested. But if I scam £25 off your phone and thousands of others I get an Aston Martin.

They have based their whole business on scams and getting round the law - it is fine if you make £200,000 if you get a fine for £25,000 - £175,000 clear profit.

It is how all of the companies have been run.

Complain to your local trading standards, OFCOM and also the police. Then they will get it investigated. They need to be stopped once and for all. This is fraud and theft.

    Cheat and steal

This thread makes for very interesting reading. It seems the talking-clockgate scandal has been going on, undetected, for years!

My brother, whose Talk Talk phone bill is never more than £10 per month, had a March bill for hundreds of pounds. The bill contains over 500 calls to 123 (at 50p a time). These calls were made in the early hours of the morning when my brother and his girlfriend were asleep - and, on one occasion, when they were away for the night and the house was empty. No equipment, other than the phone handset and internet router, is attached to the phone line.

During an hour and a quarter in the early hours of 21st March, the number 123 was called 424 times.

Also on the bill are several international calls - all to banks in Latvia, Sri Lanka and the Solomon Islands (all countries renowned for organised crime and money laundering activities).

Anyone with an ounce of sense would suspect something was wrong. But it took a letter to Talk Talk's CEO before an investigation was launched (which is still ongoing).

If anyone has any calls to 123 on their bill that they know they did not make, please report it to:

OFCOM - 0300 123 3333 or 020 7981 3040. Open Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm. (They will take your details and a report, and give you a case Number)
ACTION FRAUD - 0300 123 2040 (they will make a report for the police and give you a Crime Reference Number)

Both of these organisations are interested in trends, and if they get enough reports of the 123 fraud (however big or small) they will launch an official investigation.

Even if you only have a couple of bogus 123 calls on your bill, please visit Ofcom's site:
    https://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/formal-phone-company

and fill in their simple form. Although Ofcom cannot investigate individual cases, the information you provide will help them monitor consumer issues, and could lead to them launching an investigation.
