- fed-up7 of my last 10 calls are from this number. Had another just now 5.34pm. Asked to speak to the homeowner so I just said NO and put the phone down. I too am registered with TPS. Seems they don't give a monkeys
- Michael replies to HelpfulPhoned 8.30 at night (unanswered) & 5pm next day.
Asked for occupier - told girl he was in prison and police were at house.
Swift ring off, but don't know whether it is marketing or scam - BeccimGot a call from this number, I am also supposed to be ex directory & have had increasing amount of calls from these sorts of numbers. Getting really annoying!
- Alex Rigby replies to JJEGCL: I have just recieved a call from them. I listened to a wonderful sales pitch read from a scipt. When i asked him for his registered address, guess what, he read the script again. This happen 4 times. Eventually he tutted, sighed and hung up. Now, as a MD I come accross sales every day. I even phone prospective customers, however, i have never sighed at anyone. Not interested - no problem sir, I will not call you again! If EGCL are reading this (or if anyone has their address (strangely i cant find it)) if someone asks you to stop calling them (and it is a residential number) you have a leegal responsibillity to stop. You only continue because you make it impossible for people to put their request in writing ( which i would have done had i obtained your address)
Sales calls will always happen, and personally I dont mind (as long as i am speaking to a person with a brain) robots and idiots do not earn my respect! - saynoto0870Just had a call (August 8 2011) from a gent trying to sell cavity wall insulation. Many thanks to previous posters for the information on exenergy - who will be receiving my complaints about this kind of push promotion, at best. At worst, the call back scam mentioned by others!
Thanks to " who calls me " website too.- Call type: Telemarketer
- Rob OwenThis number called on 30th August and cleared . got the number on 1471 and doubted a six figure noumer as genuine
- Caller: ?
- DaveEGCL are now calling from a withheld number.
Same spiel about "a Government scheme" for insulation.
Hung up when I asked for EGCL's contact details - which doesn't exactly inspire confidence.- Caller: EGCL

- Roger RI get a lot of these calls. Today,I entertained them for some reason. He seemed to want information from me:
When was your last loft insulation?
When was your home built?
Who is the home owner?
Can I ask if you are ex-directory?
I can presume you are willing to receive a government grant for your loft insulation - yes?
I'm sure there would have been more questions. but I cut him short asking the following:
Who are you?
What is your company's name?
What does EGCL stand for?
Where are you calling from?
Are you calling on behalf of the government?
Are you saying that the government has contracted your company?
Where did you get my number from?
Here's the answer's he gave me (or failed to answer) that caused me great concern.
He did not give his name. Anyone who uses a telephone a lot for their job knows that this is a massive first hurdle failure.
He said his company was called EGCLbut did not know what EGCL stood for. When asked to find out, he said "That's what I am telling you sir, the name of the company is EGCL"!!!
Apparently EGCL is actually a geographical coordinate as when asked "Where are you calling from?" His answer was "I am calling from EGCL" -Sound like a comedy sketch to you?
Seeing as he mentioned the Government, I expected him to be able to explain how his company is affiliated. He could not. I guess that wasn't on his script.
This was the best part of the comedy sketch: He's cold calling me... to find out if I am ex-directory!!!??? Puzzlement becomes me!
I ended the call with the following after he asked if I'd be interested in the grant:
Funny enough , free money does sound appealing, but you'll have to forgive my meticulous practice of caution here buddy. Seeing as you are unable to tell me anything about your company EGCL, I will have to look them up myself before I consider giving you any personaldetails or information on my home. Please call back in an hour.
If he does callback in... 35 minutes from now, he is going to be abused. I know they're immune toit, but I was sleeping for my night shift and had to run downstairs to answer his comedy call. He messed up my day,it will actually make me feel a bit better to know that I at least tried to mess up his, seeing as the polite and propper method of asking them not to call again is futile.- Caller: EGCL
- WoozleThis number called today to tell me it was about government grants for loft cavity wall insulation. I have so many of these calls. The most recent one I demanded information on the company and the registered address, the name of the caller, of his supervisor, of a proper contact number etc. He refused to give me any information and eventually hung up. Today they called and asked if they were speaking to the householder/homeowner I said yes, they said what they were calling about and I said 'Oh brilliant! I'd love to hear all about it, can you just hold on for a moment please?' And then left the phone on the sofa for 20 mins before hanging up.
Really getting sick to death of these things.- Caller: Not stated - loft cavity wall insulation - goverment grants - scam
- Call type: Telemarketer
- WoozleA note for anyone curious about the government grant - this is the link from the proper UK Government website with details about the Warmfront Scheme - details on eligibilty and contact details. The scheme is up to you to contact them to enquire, not the other way around.

- dizzydaisyHave received a few of these calls asking about loft insulation. The call is from an unknown number. I went ahead with the call as we do need loft insulation and they said we could be entitled to a government grant towards it. I then realised that they were trying to get a sale out of it and googled the company while they were on the phone. The only thing that came up was this site with all similar complaints. At that point I ended the call saying I didnt want to go ahead. They then continually rang back until I answered. I asked which company they were, but instead of giving me that answer he asked if we were with TPS (we are) he then asked if I minded continuing the call, I asked who he was and who the company was. We continued along this line until he hung up on me.
- Caller: EGCL
- bazaim getting sick and tired of these cold callers..!!! WTF can't the government do anything about the [***]..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and please please please please please.. do not... DO NOT.. register with TPS.! they are a complete waste of time and someone there is selling your phone number onto these companies.!!!
- Adam ReithIt's a company purporting to be offering government grants towards house insulation. Male caller very difficult to understand - Indian accent - and very reluctant to give the name of the company. As best I could make out it was 'ECGL'. Several calls from this number and apart from the one above, when answered there was no-one there.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- PlugSCAM caller!
- liz| 1 replyCalled mid afternoon asking for the key holder. I asked where they had got my number from and was told my neighbour had given it them. I told them this was a lie as my neighbour was 95 and did not know her own name, let alone my telephone number. The man then said they number was from a survey. I told him i was registered with the TPS and he asked me for a six diguit number to prove it, I said i did not have to prove anything to him and put the phone down. The phone then rang again and it was the same man shouting at me that i was not regisitered with the TPS. I told him to stop ringing and put the phone down. He was very rude and insistant, I think my parents would have been upset if they had had a similar call.
