You are correct this is NOT Amazon's Customer Service Number.  However IT IS the number used by Amazon to respond to requests via THEIR website for immediate calls to the customer requesting a call.
I am a customer that uses the option  rather than emailing etc.  When using this option the customer can state specifically why they are requesting a callback.  Perhaps a callback customer entered their number incorrectly

THIS WAS AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLING ME TO DISCUSS THEIR DIGITAL SERVICES AFTER AN ONLINE CHAT REP SAID THEY COULD NOT ANSWER ME WITH THE PROPER INFO AND COULD AMAZON CALL ME TO DISCUSS THE MATTER.

SO IN ESSENCE- THIS IS A VALID PHONE NUMBER AMAZON USES TO CALL AS THE REP DISPATCHED THE CALL TO MY HOME WHILE I WAS ON CHAT ON THE PC.  AS SOON AS I PICKED UP AND KNEW IT WAS AMAZON I ADVISED REP IN THE AMAZON HELP CHAT THAT THE CALL CAME THROUGH AND I DISCONNECTED OUR INTERNET CONTACT AND SPOKE TO THE OTHER REP ON THE PHONE.

I got a call from this number yesterday (AGAIN). I always check before answering & don't pick up when ID just has the same number showing twice. By law companies are required to show their name with the phone number. I'm also on the permanent Gov. "Do Not Call" list but these type of calls still get through.

Anyway, this time someone with a THICK Indian or Pakistani accent calling himself John Marvels left a threatening message. Supposedly he was with the Department of Legal Affairs at the US Treasury. He said he was giving me a "Verbal notification" about a "Legal Action" being taken against me. Am I really expected not to know this office is located on the other side of the country? The fact that they NEVER contact people by phone? The fact that I haven't done anything wrong? I WILL be reporting this to real legal authorities. Reading other posts about Amazon makes me wonder too. Recently had an issue with an order from their site. Maybe my info. was hacked from there?

Who called me earlier from this unknown number? I only answer numbers I know!

Call back from Amazon when calling about a problem and ask to be called

Have gotten 2 calls from this Washington number.  A recording starts indicating I called them (Amazon) however, I have no calls in to Amazon.

I did not answer. They called 7 time in 10mins at 3am waking up me and my 1 month old baby. I don't care who they are or what company they are calling from.

This is an Amazon line. I was online with help center, and in order to fix a kindle issue, gave my number to them to call me after we disconnected on the device.

It is amazon customer service and it is legit. Maybe the customer put in the wrong number for those who got calls unsolicited. Amazon has this call back number to help customers with an order problem.

This was Amazon Customer Service calling me about a misdelivered order (I had contacted them earlier today). I don't think it's a scam because I didn't say anything about my order and the woman on the phone read off all the details of my order without any prompting.

If you call the number back you will be routed to Amazon. HOWEVER, this is not a legit amazon outbound call. They will ask you for information, but not true!

If you called Amazon Customer Service, they offer to return your call if you leave them your telephone number.
They will return call via automated call service. If you do not answer and is passed to your answering device it will proceed as if you "picked up the phone" and try to talk to someone who isn't there. This is not a crank call.

FROM AMAZON - DO NOT ANSWER OR RESPOND - This is a fraudulent 'fishing' call.  I just spoke with Amazon directly and they were adamant that this call did not come from them at all.  They were surprised that anyone would report this number as trustworthy - my guess it those who reported this as trustworthy are part of the scam.

This number is from Amazon customer service. I had requested a call from their website. They called me within 5 seconds of my request. The person on the other end of the phone verified my name. I had some very specific questions about ordering a second Amazon Echo Dot. He had all my Amazon account information available to him. He was also very knowledgeable about the product. He answered all my questions. This call was not a scam, just Amazon doing a great job of customer service.

This number, also ending in 0865, is a LEGITIMATE AMAZON.COM phone number. When you need customer service, you call their number, you answer a few questions, so that they can get you the right representative for your issue, you are asked to enter your phone number, so that they can call you right back. No waiting, or listening to elevator music. The first time that I received my call-back, the connection was terrible, hang up and do-over. So when I got called back the 2nd time, I got a rep and a good connection. Hope this helps!! :)

Actually, Amazon has 80+ phone numbers that are not listed anywhere on the Amazon Website, and cannot be found anywhere else because they are unlisted and are mostly departmental specific numbers for local use and employee specific numbers.  Add that to the few thousand  mid-level managers and supervisors who have their own Amazon issued cell phones that come with their own Amazon phone number, and all those phone numbers are not listed on the Amazon website either (but most of those phones and numbers are used as an unofficial tracking service to rate mid level managers/supervisors to determine when and how they spend their time to determine what managers/supervisors should be considered for promotion and those who will be the first to get the pink slip if it ever gets to the point where layoffs need to be made...
