These people called my personal cell tonight! It was a man who asked all sorts of personal questions - my age, if i had a boyfriend, it was so weird. When i asked who it was they said GE... I hung up!

I never answer if I don't recognize the number, and you shouldn't either! :-)  Let them waste their time calling and getting no answer.

There always seems to be a flurry of these cals whenever I reactivate my resume online (there seems to be a faction that thinks you'll be more susceptible to shady schemes if you are looking for employment).
Did not answer and they did not leave a message

Tell your parents, and have them run a credit check on you.  They were fishing for to much personal information.  It could have just been a couple of kids making a prank call but most likely they are looking for ID information.

they call from cell phones, some bill collectors, private contractors to collect given a throw away phone, if they do leave a message it will some sort of 800 #.  never give any personal information out to them, the collection agency, go directly to the company if you even owe a company.  Also tell them you are taping this call, ask for their fax #, writ a cease and desist form and fax it,  then report the number to your state and fed agencies.

my son got the same call yesterday, after i got one.  he tried to call it back and got the same thing you did.  I have had this happen before, when a friend worked for the state agency, and her caller id # is a proprietary # and when you try to call it back, it says out of service.  It may be a collection company or out of the country cell #

    Texas moblie  phone owner
I received a call from this number. They did not bother to answer the phone but hung up on me.  I do not  know anyone in that area code, so I looked it up saw that is was some idiot from Rhode Island annoying people to try to sell some worth less over priced garbage.  The same number called back an hour later, this time they bothered to answer the phone. He flew into his pitch; I interrupted him and asked that his company never call me back. The idiot, obviously a foreigner due to the very thick accent, replied that I would get called back and there was nothing I can do to stop IT.  Three hours later, as threatened I get a call back, I tell the caller, obviously a foreigner due to the very thick accent, but a different one, that I asked previously to be never called again by this number , he stated he has the right to call whomever he wants and hangs up. I thought that would be enough but a more than a week later I continue to get calls from this number.
The only way to teach these idiots a lesson and to stop the abuse is to make a formal complaint with the R.I. Attorney generals office and The FCC
    Company-Specific Do-Not-Call Lists
Whether or not your home phone number is registered on the national Do-Not-Call list, the FCC requires a person or entity placing voice telephone solicitations to your home to maintain a record of your direct request to that caller not to receive future telephone solicitations from that person or entity. A record of your do-not-call request must be maintained for five years. This request should also stop calls from affiliated entities if you would reasonably expect them to be included, given the identification of the caller and the product being advertised. Unless your home phone number or number(s) is registered on the national Do-Not-Call list, however, you must make a separate do-not-call request to each telemarketer from whom you do not wish to receive calls.
When you receive telephone solicitation calls, clearly state that you want to be added to the caller’s do-not-call list. You may want to keep a list of those persons or businesses that you have asked not to call you. Tax-exempt non-profit organizations are not required to keep do-not-call lists.

Just called at @ 8pm after calling earlier today. After the first call I read this site and was prepared for this evening. I got them to tell me their company name (Total Security Solutions). They went through a 2min explanation of their services and said I should expect a call from another salesperson later on. I told them to take me off their call list. They argued that I would be missing out on a great system and I told them I'd like some more information so I can report them to the FTC. "Have a good evening sir."

I hope that rat [***] salesman calls later...

Just started receiving calls from this no. as well as a 508 no.  Broken English, possibly Asian, wanting to sell me a home security system.  Coincidentally, started getting these calls on my cell after listing an item on Craifslist and providing my cell no. as a contact.

    NOT Fred Wilson
So last Friday I get a call on my phone from 401.310.0123, an unknown number. Now usually, I let these go to voicemail but I was feeling somewhat adventurous so I answered.

Good thing I did!!! It was a girl from GE Security (I think she said her name was Peggy) offering to install a wireless security system in my home for free!!! She took my name and said someone would call back and setup a schedule to come and install. They tried calling me numerous times (no less than a dozen) over the weekend but unfortunately, I was unable to take the call. I was finally able to take the call today and they (Mike) sweeten up the deal. Normally they only install three door alarms but because I told them I have five exterior doors, they are going to toss in the other two for free!!! They also upgraded the motion sensor to a pet friendly model because I have a dog. Is this just the greatest thing or what!? The only thing I need to do is pay the monthly security fee of $37.00 and tell all my friends about this great deal.

The security system will be installed tomorrow at 4:00pm for Mr. Fred Wilson at 200 Spring Street in my local town. The address is the Police Dept in my local town. I gave them a callback number for the local Police Dept too.

I have recieved several phone calls from this number and others, even tho I am on the Do Not Call List.
I just recently added Caller ID to my phone service so I could see who is calling and do not answer it unless I know the number or name calling.
Yesterday I found a new model Panasonic phone that will BLOCK numbers. When they call they will just get a busy signal and my phone will not ring. I bought them yesterday. Can't wait until they arrive.
Hopefully it will hold enough numbers to block all of this type of call.
