Called asked questions to verify business thanked me for verifying hung up

called from 402-509-5055 asked if this was name, address, no. of employees. When I asked who was calling, hung up.

They represent themselves as the chamber until you question it and then they say American Chamber just verifying your business listing.  They have called my call and office number.  Both times they hang up when you question them.  Called the number back and it is a recording stating if you want to be removed from calling list to leave name and number.

Businesses are being asked to provide information to update their listing in the Chamber of Commerce directory. The call is coming from a call center with the telephone number 402-509-5055. The caller will identify himself as being with the Chamber of Commerce and when pressed, he will say that he is with the American Chamber of Commerce, which does not exist. It is unknown what the caller will use the collected information for.

Same deal as above, a very professional sounding woman asked to verify manager, business address and employee numbers when I asked who is she was representing she cut the call.  Led me to think it was a scam, but for what I don't know.

Phone call several time, i finally pic up, she askedhe name of the owner but i refused to sai it and ask where you calling from and your name please, after that she hung up without response my questions.

They called me yesterday and today. Only got to answer the phone today. She asked if she was calling some business and I informed her that she had the wrong number and this is a residential line. She hung up on me immediately. Rude!

First I got what appeared to be the "phishing" call from an unknown caller ID number.  When I answered the call, the line was quiet as if no one was there so I hung up.  20 Minutes later, I received a call from this number on Caller ID but allowed the answering machine to pick up.  No message was left.  27 minutes later, I received another call from this number and again the answering machine picked up but no message was left.  

Called from this number, same modus operandi as previously noted.  When I returned the call, the automated message stated that it is an, "outbound number used to update business directories."  Further, "If you would like to have your information removed, leave your name, business name, and phone number."  Sounds like someone providing feedback for "company" directories for the purpose of attaining more accurate information.  The primary concern here is; who needs this information and what will it be used for.

A woman called the office where I work claiming to be from the Chamber of Commerce.  She asked if my boss was still the owner of the business, if we were at the same address, and if we had the same amount of employees.  She hung up when I said I was going to get my boss.

Former owner of a now defunct consulting business that's been out of business for 10 years.

She asked if this is ("name of company?") I burst out laughing. She never called back...

They called without identifying themselves and asked if they could have verification of my business name and address.  I asked who they were and said they were the Chamber of Commerce - they were calling from an area code that was not in my area.  I called my local chamber and they said they did not make the call.  When I called back the number, they said it was for an outbound call center only.  Don't give any information to these people.  

So I'm wondering what would happen if you just started giving them completely bogus info.  For example, if they ask "are you Wendy", I would say "no, my name is Diana ____', "is this (address)?" "No.  The address here is (then give them a false address". etc.  And you could even try talking in a very heavy accent that is almost impossible to understand.  Or use one of those horribly loud bullhorn things that might blow their eardrums out!!!

Person called my business from this number asking business info such as owners name and previous employees from last year. When asked who they were calling for and why they needed the info they hung up on me. When I called them back they claimed to be a high school student and claimed they were in class and couldn't have made the call, but my call back to them was less than 1 minute after the original call. About 3 mins later I recieved a call from 515-313-5095 with a woman who claimed to be the mother of the person who called before and said that she would press charges on my business if we called her son again. When person at 402-509-5055 was confronted about calling my business he started asking the person next to him if they had called here. Story that the "supposed" mom told was that 16 yr old son was in class with phone turned off and that someone had used an app to use her son's number to call from.

Had several calls from  this # today, was unable to answer the 1st few as I was busy, but did answer on my lunch break. They said they were verifying info for chamber of commerce listing, name & address, then tried asking me about my employees. I have none, told them they had wrong info and they hung up. This left me w a bad feeling. Who are they n what are they after?

They call my office where I work and then nobody will ever answer..so I just hang up but it is very annoying that they call like 4 times already today and it is only 3:00 in the afternoon!

Called our business.  No one responded after I answered the phone so I hung up after about 10 seconds.  Then I googled the phone number and this came up:

I answered the phone, a man asked if this is [our business name], I said yes.  He said, are you on highway K? I thought for a second, that's an odd question, but answered - yes.  He asked who is the owner or manager of this business.  I said it is a non-profit.  He asked again who is the manager.  I asked who's calling.  He said "Spencer.  From the Chamber of Commerce, updating the business directory".  I knew something wasn't right about this, and now I hate that I didn't go with my instincts to end the call, but I told him my name.  He repeated it back, confirming it.  I said yes.  He said thank you and hung up.
So now I've looked the number up online and found this.  This feels awful!  What are they up to? What can they do with this information?  I hate when I maintain politeness when what I really am is naïve and vulnerable!

Someone called from this number immediately asking questions.  She already knew the business name, address, owner and number of employees and was calling to verify the information.  I asked where is she calling from.  She said the Chamber of Commerce. I didn't think anything of it until I hung up.  Decided to look up the number she called from and found this forum.  I'm not sure why they are collecting this information but its a little nerve racking that she already had ours.
