This company is contracted by magazine manufactures and publishers to renew magazines that you have ordered in the past.  They have called me from the same number discussing totally different magazines.  I must say they were very polite and quick and promised not to ever sell my email or phone number to 3rd parties.

A lady (with a Offshore accent) called looking for a certain employee . I told her that he doesn't work here anymore. (he really does). Then she asked for the IT Manager. I said we are a small company and did not have one (were are not small and we do have one). Then she asked for the person who replaced the guy that left (even though he did not leave). I said there is not a replacement. Then she thanked me and hung up. I then called her back (many times) but the call was always busy. I put the number on a list of numbers that I will not answer in the future as they also called last week

These guys called me at work today.  The guy had an accent and said that they wanted to give me a free product from Dell.  He wanted to verify some information.  I told him that this was a place of business and we do not accept solicitation calls and I then hung up on him.

Stated they were calling on behalf of Dell and I qualified for a security white paper.  After a couple verification questions they requested my email address.  I hung up.

Called twice today, but only once each day for the past 3 days.  On the 2nd call today, they left a blank message... just silence.  VERY unprofessional, regardless of what they're looking for.  I don't answer numbers I don't recognize, mostly.  If it's not important enough to leave a message, don't call at all!  I wish they'd leave me alone.  My # is registered with the National Do Not Call List, which apparently, is a freakin joke.  I will continue to ignore calls from them.  Calls like this are completely outrageous and it should be easier to stop them.

Multiple calls on cell phone. I never answer as it is a prepaid phone and it would cost me $1.99. They never leave a message.

I subscribe to call blocking on my phone service, about 4.00 a month. Just call the phone company and add this number, ..... blocked . simple as that.
You have to have the phone company block out of state calls, and cell phone calls from computers etc.  Well worth the 4.00 a  month, as you can add all the numbers you want.

Magazine renewal drones. I put them on hold for one minute before transferring them. Most don't wait that long. I figure if they really want it, they'll wait.

Hey, if they wanted the subscription, they'd renew it on their own!

I got 2 calls from them already today.  The first was at 8:45 AM, I thought they couldn't canvess before 9 AM.  The second one was at 9:55 AM.  I answered the second one and said, "Why don't you go [***] Yourself?"  She said something else which I couldn't make out, so I said it again.  She said Bye and I hung up.

Got one of these today and have gotten them in the past....usually they're pests fro 2-3 weeks and then move on.

Here's the skinny....  Trade Magazines are really struggling these days.  Very, very tough for them to attract advertisers as well as subscriber.  So what they're doing is hiring offshore boiler room operations to agressively push free subscriptions.  Part of this has to do with the fact that publishers guarantee an audience of "x number of subscribers".  When they can't get enough of "x-number of subscribers" (which happens quite frequently these days), they hire these bottom-feeders to go after warm bodies.

Chances are they got your name and number from an attendee list of a convention or trade show you attended, or from an association membership list, or subscriber list of their own or sister publication.

If the publication being offered is something that would have value to you, by all means, talk to them and sign up.  If not...and if you find these tactics annoying and offensive....get the name of the publication being offered.  Google it.  Get the name of the publisher and call him/her.  Call...don't e-mail.  If the publisher doesn't answer or return your call, keep calling every day or so and leave messages.  See how they like what they're putting other people through.

These people are (I hate to say this) legit.  As much as you might not like it, your number, as some time in the past, became voluntarily associated with a free trade magazine.  They cannot be touched by the FCC.  The Do Not Call rules specifically exclude them from calling unless you tell that particular magazine (or publisher) to remove your number.

Understand that I hate these calls as much as anyone else; but, in my case, I brought it upon myself by subscribing to free magazines.  They stay in business through their advertisers, and are required to show how many subscribers they have.  No, I did not specifically give them permission to call me, but the law allows them to do so.

I called them back and got a recording.  It said who they were and what they do ("... a teleservice company who qualifies correspondents free of charge." -- or something to that effect.  I think they also used the word "survey" in the recording.  I left a message, asking for them to call me back and tell me which publication(s) or publisher that they have my name for.  Also please remove my number (mentioned a couple of times).
