Thanks to you guys and this web site for the alert.  It appears Mr. Kirby is very busy renting the house everywhere in the united states. He almost got me.  We need to expose these scammers so more people know about their tricks. Amazingly the letters I receive are identical to yours. He is following a pattern using the same type of letter.  It is the so called 419 scam. Once we know it, it is not so difficult to  know the scam. His goal is to send me a large sum of money as the deposit and then say he made a mistake and ask me to keep a small amount for my trouble and mail the extra money back to him.  It is stupidly simple but I wonder how many people will fall victim to them.  That's why we need to tell more people about the scam.

The so-called "419" scam (aka "Nigeria scam" or "West African" scam) is a type of fraud named after an article of the Nigerian penal code under which it is prosecuted. It is also known as "Advance Fee Fraud" because the common principle of all the scam format is to get the victim to send cash (or other items of value) upfront by promising them a large amount of money that they would receive later if they cooperate. In almost all cases, the criminals receive money using Western Union and MoneyGram, instant wire transfer services with which the recipient can't be traced once the money has been picked up. Delete the SMS without replying-it can have a virus that the scammer can use to copy your sim card, photos, phonebook and bank information.

I got this same message and a check reported to the bank and they are investigating.
Somebody had to put a stop to this.  He even called, accent of an African.
I have it recorded and saved all information.

Now, no one will want to use Craigslist  as there are too many scams.

This is a scam!

A fictious George Kirby ssoftkirbygeorgee@gmail.com  working in Greece contacted me from a craigslist ad home for rent with the same type message Jan 2012. Also, a false Dr Steven Spielberg*really' contacted me with the same type letter but a different phone numbe r447035906494  Working on a new project in the US for  the EPA wanting to lease and send from the UK via a financial manager . Naturally we googled it and found these post. Somehow they were going to try to get into our financial information. The  [post on the other phone number447035906494   said they ask the landlord to cover the price of renting their furniture from their deposit  and promise to reimburse when they arrive, because their arrival was delayed and the furniture must be delivered.. Be smart;;;;  Do not sent any personal  information to them and block them on your email. I plan to contact the authorities in America. Are There really people stupid enough to pay deposits rent a home from overseas without ever seeing it, and just doing it over the internet!!!!! . I

He's trying it with me also. I've received enough of these to know a scam when they come across.  I enjoy leading them on and then dropping.  It makes using Craig's list no fun when there are people out there that pray on the elderly and those of us that are there legitimately trying to sell or offer products.
