Answered call; woman said she was from the census bureau and wanted to verify my address.  The address she gave did not match my address.  She said that because the info was incorrect we were not eligible for the current survey.  She asked me for my correct address.  I told her I preferred not to give out that info.  She that was fine and we hung up.

I got this phone call just recently (Feb 8th '09, Sunday around 12:45 believe it or not).  I didn't answer it and let my machine get it (since I don't answer any numbers I don't know) and it was a man telling me to call the U.S. Census Bureau regarding a survey from the National Science Foundation.  I saved the message thinking it was important possibly.  I ended up getting a similar call from a 812-218-3144 number today actually.  I got it at 3:00pm, one around 4:15pm, and one at 8:09pm (which they decided to finally leave a message at that point).  The message was a woman, and so obviously fake (she was laughing as she was leaving the message).  I checked this one against the one I got on Sunday and they both matched in information, so I figured this call was a fake as well (although the man sounded more professional than the woman did)

I gt this call daily. Today the female caller identified herself as the United States Census Brueau.  The number is from Tuscon, AZ.  I didn't know that the Census was in Tuscon.  Probably too much snow in DC this year??

I doubt it was the census bureau, as they go door to door.
i suspect its people phishing for info the old fashioned phone method... but now the caller id has

I got a call today I got a call from Tuscan, AZ, a woman saying that this is the cenus bureau doing a
survey re:case #.  This is definitely a scam!  Beware everyone out there-no way should anyone give information over the phone.

i got the same phone calls,   they wanted to verify info on my census form.  but when i told them i didn't give personal info to anyone over the phone, they became belligerent and insisted i give them the info.  i have contacted the census bureau....first to see if it's legitimate and then to file a complaint about the people who have called me.

when i called the numbers on the caller i.d., the answering machine told me that i had "reached a non-800 telephone number at the USCB".  i still don't believe it without the census bureau telling me it legitimate.

GOT A CALL THIS MORNING FROM THIS NUMBER. DIDNT ANSWER AND I GOT A VOICEMAIL. ON THIS VOICE MAIL WAS WHAT APPEARED TO BE A LATINO FEMALE AND SHE WAS TELLING ME THAT I HAVE [***] FOR BRAINS AND THAT IM STUPID AND IGNORANT. HER EXACT WORDS. THEN SHE WENT ON TO SAY THAT SHE WILL CALL ME LATER. LOL IM WAITING !!! CALLED THE NUMBER BACK AND LIKE THE OTHER POST THE RECORDING SAYS NON 800 NUMBER OF THE CENSUS. IM DYING FOR YOU PEOPLE TO CALL ME BACK......CALLLL MEEEE ALREADY. LOL I GOT SOMETHING FOR YOU PEOPLE..

I recieved a call from this number on my CELLPHONE! I also recieved a call from 812-218-3144 on my cell phone. That is definitely information I don't give out!

[***]!!!  I got another (I received a million of these calls on my cell) call today and told the older man that this was a scam and that he is working for a shell company based in Chile trying to get info.  he totally said NO I WORK FOR THE CENSUS and I get my checks from the US CENSUS.  I said of course you do, that's why you are calling me on my CELL PHONE to get info that I ALREADY sent in to the REAL CENSUS!  He said "ma'am we are not asking for your social security number" I said of course not,  you are asking for my full name, CORRECT address, where I was born, and other valuable info to get all the basics to find out all my info.  So it looks like you are legit, but I can see past that.  he just kept saying he was legit  and I really think he thinks he is....POOR POOR old man!  I said you can believe what ever you want, but just do this...go home tonight and in your comfy chair, google the number you are calling me from...520-798-4152 and see what happens.....I PRAY THAT HE DOES THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  he will maybe think twice about saying he is from the US Census after that!

I got a survey call from it for the Consumer Expenditure Survey,  I was suspicious because when I looked it up on google it pointed me to this thread, but when I called the number above a message referred me to a census call center ( 1-800-642-0469) number.  

I verified that 800 number on the census website (http://www.census.gov/npc/contactus.html ) and called there, where an operator confirmed that the 520 number above was legit and that I listed as a randomly selected household for this particular survey.  

If you have any doubts you should call the call center at the 800 number above to confirm.

Got this call and was ask about my son and and daughters and ask where they worked ask about who son father was and if he was in military  my son is 15 ask where he was born could not harldly understand caller

Just because the number is a legit Census number, doesn't mean the call originated there. Read article:

They call you with a fake caller ID # that is a legit Census  # and leave you a message to call them at a # that is not a Census #. You give them all your info and get your identity stolen.

I have just got the same phone number to ask for personal inform. I doubt it is fake as well. I pretend not to understand her well because I am Vietnamese. She said that she will find an officer could speak Vietnamese to talk with me. After that, nobody re-call to me. Hopefully I will not be bothered by that phone number.

Se me pregunto  sobre cuanto pagabamos de agua mensualmente la cantidad de personas que residiamos y el valor de la propiedad y cuanto tiempo hacia que viviamos en la propiedad. Tambien acerca de los taxes que pagabamos de la propiedad. Ademas me pregunto sobre cuanto pagabamos de seguro contra incendio por la propiedad. Me dio por buscar el numero del tel por internet y me encuentro con esto.Tal parece que es para robo de identidad.

This number calls me everyday claiming to be the Census Bureau and I am sick of it! The lady and man that keeps harassing me are both Muslim....can't speak English worth a crap either! They are wanting all sorts of information that is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS! What a scam! What a shame we have to put up with and tolerate this kind of harassment! Since you have all these complaints why don't you do something about it???????????????????????????????? :(
