    617-581-1051: “Geico collection agency”

it's a "fake" collection agency. somehow they can state they are bbb credited, but they call claiming that your bank or insurance company has hired them to collect past due funds. For one, HUGE company, would not hire a private collection agency, and two, those companies would also try to collect first by sending you a statement. add em to the block list.

This IS a fake debt collector.  Look at the other posts.  They are supposedly hired by Farmers and Progressive and Geico to collect those debts?  No.  Those established insurance companies do their own collections and have their own department for that.  What these people do is scan people who may or may not owe money to a certain type of company, in this instance, auto/renters insurance companies.  Then they pose as the collection agency for these other agencies, which in fact, any payments you make to them is NOT being sent to the debtor you owe.  I just had this happen before I realized I was NOT paying back on a payday loan I had defaulted on - not one dime of my money was being sent to the payday loan people - who also told me they would never threaten to send a cop to my house to arrest me for a loan default.  I ended up getting back the $800 I had paid over a period of 5 months' time and my bank filed a complaint against that company who was operating fraudulently, preying on people who might have an old debt that is sitting around on the books.  That's how they get a lot of people.  You might actually owe money to Farmers, but I can guarantee you, Farmers did not hire these low lifes to collect on their behalf.  Don't give them ANYTHING.

I just got a call from this number and I have neither of those insurance companies. I have been with Allstate the last 17yrs, and I know for a fact that I do not owe them. I will just block the call.

This is a FAKE scamming company that uses information from other agencies to sound legitimate. Just because you owe a company money, don't assume that someone calling you claiming to collect for that company is valid. If they are real, they will have sent you a notice in the postal mail and they will have your full name and account details on their computer screen. They will not need to ask you for name, address, numbers, or account details. Do not give out your credit card number or any other private information, including your name and address. Don't even verify your phone number to them, unless you want them to keep calling.

you can add Liberty Mutual to your list of supposed insurance companies they do collections for.  I find it difficult to believe that Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Farmers, Progressive and GEICO would use these unprofessional and rude collectors on their behalf.  If so, we as consumers need to impress on the insurance companies that if there is a problem someone AT THE COMPANY needs to take it up with you, as a policyholder ... not some unprofessional collection agency located in a different state.  Just saying.

Just  because you have an Insurance company doesnt mean thats where you have got it, if you went thru an Insurance provider which is just a mom and pop [***] from his house or a crappy little office and not straight from the company, they will send it to a collection agency.

I have had my rental and auto policies with GEICO for 8 months.  My policy is direct debited every month from them.  Why I have someone calling from this number 617-581-1051 is beyond me.  No one ever leaves a message and when I do answer it, no one is ever there.  I am going to block the number.

The problem with not verifying the telephone number is that not all companies have caller ID (believe it or not, it's true) and they can't take it out of their dialer if you don't.
