this is a debt collector.  i got a prepaid account and almost immediately started receiving phone calls even though they were not for me.

PRA has been calling us for more than 5 years attempting to collect a debt from 15 years ago.  I use the following method to stop them, although it takes quite a few attempts but eventually they stop.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ENGAGE THEM IN ANY WAY.  ANY CONVERSATION LEADS TO MORE CALLS.

1) Keep a list of the various numbers and states they are calling from.
2) Buy a coaches sports whistle.  They cost about $5.00.  Keep it handy by the phone.  
3) When you recognize the number on caller id, grab your whistle and BLOW LIKE HELL into the mouthpiece.  My husband thinks an air horn would be more effective since I have asthma.

This method effectively shocks the caller intro yanking off their head set and running to their supervisor with a blown out ear drum.  After they receive enough complaints by their associates, the number is removed from the roster.

The trick is, be consistent and blow every call every time. This method has worked for me, they stopped calling for over a year.  The calls just started again after the new year so I've got my whistle handy again.

Because of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, they do, by federal law, have to show you proof that you owe the bill. Also, the clock doesn't start ticking again until you make a payment or payment arrangements.

Portfolio Recovery has called me from 7 different numbers since September of last year. I don't owe anybody anything and I have been blocking/rejecting their calls. I am close to changing my phone number. I do understand that there is a class-action suit against them for these predator calls.

I get calls from this number and many others that i have googled and it always comes up portfolio is what people post. I don't owe them either this is a debt from my first husband who passed away last month and i don't owe and i will not pay it they some how got my cell phone number and call from lot's of numbers i have a blocked number button on my cell phone that every time there is an usual number on my phone i add it to that so it doesnt ring it goes to my answering machine and they NEVER leave a message, I think i have a yr till its over the SOL so i will just keep putting it of....

Called me.  I don't answer a number unless they are programmed in my phone.  Glad I checked these posts to find some useful information.  They never left a message.  This is the first call I've got from them.

These people are crazy, all of their accounts are past statute of limitations for debt collection!!!! They do their best to try and trick you into making an agreement to pay (by saving you $ of course) then once you agree the statute of limitations has started all over.

I do not know if they are calling for me or somebody else, because Debt Collectors call my cell number for other people.  This collector never leave a msg to call.

ditto to all these comments...i did not know calling on Sundays was not allowed....they do that too!

they are calling my cell phone.  I don't give the number out or write it down on the information box as the number to call.  Only my family calls me on this number.  have this issue with a few other numbers as well.  Assuming that they are collection agencies since they never leave a number.  I just silence the ring and end them calling me.  I do the same on my home phone as well.  Pickup and hang up on them.

They are calling me for a car, my cousin decided to get repod and it was in my grandmothers name.I called to "inquire" about the vehicle from my cell. BIG MISTAKE, when they asked for a return # at the time I gave them my cousins, so she can clear up this mess she made, but now they call me... Next time I am using called ID block or better yet a pay phone!! Losers, OMG. they call me ALL the time and rarely leave a message!!

at the present time they dont have my cell number. so keep calling my home it only appear on caller ID
which i check 2-3 time a week.

Can't the State or someone stop these calls, I don't have any bad debts and get lots of these calls.

Sometime the caller ID lists their company name but not always.

They called twice so I got mad and answered and a man told me that someone with the same last name as me gave them this contact number and were looking for them and asked if I knew them.  I told them that no one lived here by that name and that it is a big family and that I don't know who it was.  The guy was polite and hopefully they stop calling.
