- confusethemback| 1 replyAbout 2 months ago I was receiving phone calls twice a day, EVERYDAY 7 days a week. Talk about getting tired of it. So I thought and came up with an IDEA. Sure enough, 2 hrs later my cell phone rang and it was Portfolio Company's number. So, When I answered the phone this is what I said...
"Good afternoon, Thank you for contacting Portfolio Recovery Service. How may I direct your call." The lady was dead silent for about 45 seconds. So I said, "Hello, anybody there, this is Portfolio Recovery Service. How may I direct your call." She slowly replied, "ummmmmm, have I got the wrong number." I replied,, " Who were you trying to contact MAM." SHE WAS TOTALLY DUMB FOUNDED. She replied,, "Not the company I work for" and with that SHE HUNG UP instead of me having to.
I have not received another call from them since then. It is worth a try. It worked for me. Also It is a Great Laugh listening to them totally DUMB FOUNDED not understanding WHAT THE HECK just HAPPENED.....- Caller: Portfolio Recovery

- Tuesday1Please be aware that by law a debt collector can only contact you 3 times in a 7 days period. (Fair Debt Collection Act) Even if they do not leave a message just dialing your number and having it ring is an attempt. I have my cell phone auto record their numbers on my bill. I have filed numerous complaints against companies like this and they have stopped calling me. But you need to make sure that you have a record that shows dates and times with the number calling as well as what company the number belongs to. Its taken my time, but it worth it to be able to answer my phone again.

- Old boy o boy replies to JRF773You can all stop these calls for less than $5. Under the Fair Credit Collection Act you send a certified letter to the companies main office. In this letter you must be very specific and tell them any and all further contact with you regarding your account must be in writing to the address they have on file ONLY. Explain to them that any other attempt to contact you other than by U.S. mail is to stop. That any other attempts to contact outside of the mail will result in a violation of the Federal Fair Credit Collection Act and you will report it promptly.
Be aware that these companies swap debts on their books to other companies all the time so once they get this letter from you they will sell off your debt to someone else. Remember too that these companies bought the debt from the original card or creditor for pennies on the dollar. They will at times make a deal with you to wipe out the debt ofr much less. Good Luck - Bob| 1 replyThey also use the number 731-215-8010. I got a call from that # today but I have the entire 731 area code blocked so they called moments ago from the 620 area code (which is now blocked) I wonder how many area codes they have access to?
Funny thing is when I picked up the phone when they first started calling they said they were looking for someone I have never heard of, I told them but I guess they thought I was lying...
Oh well, I'll just continue to block any area codes they call from until they run out.- Caller: Portfolio Revovery

- Tazmania69 replies to Paul| 1 replyyou can't do that legally. You're solliciting spam to a number to harrass a legal company. Just pay your dang debt or tell them you are fully aware of your rights and to stop calling about it. They must then stop and take what actions they can. In most cases they will simply sell to another collector. Its a never ending cycle until dead beats actualy pay their bills.

- Lawdog replies to joeyIf you would like to make a complaint of Harassment, then go to your local police department and file a ;complaint. Typically I contact the number and tell them that if they call the complainant again I will get a warrant on the subject I am speaking with. They stop calling magically...
- frankNo message --- of course, i've turned off my answering machine, and if I see any number I dont like, i just jiggle the handset to hang up :)
