Report a phone call from 623-492-6031 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- EmployeeWhen calling customers, if there is no answer, there is an automated message that we use in order to be able to work more cases on a daily basis. (It takes more time to personally leave the entire message) However, if you are uncomfortable, we always recommend that you call the number on the back of your card because more than likely, when you call in to the Identity Protection Team, we will need to verify more information with you regarding an acct opened with your information. That is, if your name was left on the message. If not, someone else falsely used your phone number on an application. Sorry. Give us a call and we'll get it removed.
- CindyJust got a call from this # and a female claimed to be from AE wanting to verify my mailing address for my new card which I opened recently and haven't received yet. I got suspicious and asked whether if I can call back. She said yes and left me a # 1-888-800-5234. But I didn't call that number but rather called AE customer service # listed on their website. Turns out that it's a legitimate #, from a creditor department or something.

- mjoI have received numerous calls from this phone number. The caller leaves a message saying that they are from American Express and they need to talk to me about my account immediately. I called American Express' 888 phone number from my statement and they said that they had not called me. I called the 623 number and they immediately asked for me to enter my account number. I did not enter it and waited until I had a live person. The live person answered and immediately asked me for my account number. I told them that I do not have an American Express card and they supposedly took my number off of their call list. I suspect this 623 number is related to fraud.

- arleneUnder no circumstances give these people any information, SSI #, Amex acct. number. They are not from Amex, they are identity thiefs and Amex already is trying to track them down.
- Caller: claims to be amex
- arleneAnd also, if you are not there to answer do not call them back. If you have an amex account go directly to your online acct. and check it or call the number in back of your card.
Because by calling back the number they give you if they don't steal your identity then when the phone answers it can activate an automatic charge to your phone bill from $19 to $50. And these boiler room operations mostly operate outside the US, where there's no jurisdiction and you loose your money.- Caller: claims to be amex
- DonReceived a call from these two phone numbers 623 492-6031 602 537-9012 both out of Pheonix, AZ. I have been a card holder of AMEX for years and the only call I will answer is one that is listed as an 800 number. The other two I would be very suspicious of because it is more then likely a scam to get your card number for their illicit useagage.
- AllenSomeone using 623-492-6031 tried to call me. I didn't answer it. Since I don't have an account with AmEx, wondering what could happen.
- hijinxThe number is actually from Amex, their systems dials out of different area codes that's why it shows a different area code on caller id, the number provided to call back, 800-678-0738, is a direct number to the credit department. If you do not feel safe you can always call the number on the back of your card and you will automatically be directed to the credit dept. I should know because I work for them.

- David LI recieved a call from this # on Friday Aug 28th and didn't ge the message until Monday the 31st. I called the number back and spoke with the representative saying that I do not have a American Express card and he followed by saying it was probably just a wrong number. I resvied 3 miss calls from them and a voice message that sounded like a machine with no name or reason for the call other than it was ugent I contact them before COB. I recieved the call on a phone that I hardly use (my federal govt work phone). I called AE customer service (1-800-528-4800)and the lady I sopke with did say that (623-492-6031) was a valid AE # although when I asked about which department it was from. She said she did not have access to that information but that it was a AE phone number. I'm still not sure what was going on or who to believe.

Use Certified Mail with Return Receipt. - AP623-492-6031 is from American Express collection department, but i got a call on Sunday at 7pm woking me from my sleep, which is rather strange, asking for me to make a payment in the future with my current back accout, when i told them already made the payment on friday they ask for a ref.
Told the guy i would call the 800 number on the back of the card .. to be curious called the 623-492-6031 and they ask for my SSN which i never give over the phone to someone i don't know where their call from .. so hangup and call the 800 customer service ... what a joke, said i was calling to update my reference number .. they tranferred me to some lady .. and you know, she didn't ask me one thing about the reference number .. she proceeded to ask about my employment info .. position, salary etc ... I was like why do you need this information ... her reply was to determine the amount to lend me ... my reply was like .. my balance is due every month .. so i don't have a limit with AM .. she said i don't have to provide that information .. and i just hang up the phone ... DON'T PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFO TO THESE FOLKS, AND DON'T MAKE FUTURE PAYMENTS FROM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT EITHER....
always pay from your bank on online .... Limit your fraud exposure .. and never give your SSN and address ...
AP. - T.YI just got a call from this number. I didn't answer it because I won't answer calls that are unknown to me. I did google it and found that it is some AMex number according to others here. Thing is, I don't have AMEX. Never have.
- ABI received a call from 6234926031 - i did not answer and the recorded message was from an ENGLISH speaking person - very clear. and then a recorded message was played stating it was from AMEX and to call 1-800-555-4318, that there was a time sensitive opportunity.
I called the AMEX number on the back of my card and asked customer service - she checked - and they did NOT call me, and my account is in excellent standing. She said AMEX would NEVER ask you for you account number - that if anyone ever does ask you for information - do NOT give it to them. Always call the number on the back of your card - never take phone calls coming in!!! - gregThis was the second phone call I got from a possible AMEX number. They had the wrong number. I don't even have an AMEX acct. Someone has the wrong number on their file. Sucks for me.

- Careful OneI have received 4 calls from this number today. I googled the number and found your helpful comments. I do not have an AMEX card, and this is clearly phishing! I will add the number to my blocked list!
- SkootyI got a call from this number. The person claimed to be from American Express and that they needed to relay urgent info about my American Express account. I don't have an American Express account. American Express would know that.
- Dan-NYCYes, confirmed today 12/1/2009 that 800-592-1160, 866-231-9049 and 623-492-6031 are all American Express numbers -- genuine. Some are unlisted numbers but they are all part of AmEx. It's not totally clear why they have hidden numbers or why they are calling people asking for SS# and card numbers. AmEx clearly states on their web site that they never call and ask for your full numbers -- but that is exactly what they are doing. I just spent several hours with them on the phone today talking to their fraud department, because at first I suspected this was a scammer. But these are all originating from AmEx. Even more bizarre is that the fraud dept kept asking for my SS# also (even though I don't even have an account with them). Obviously I didnt' give it (never give this out). They call me from this number all day and night.
The bad news is that they seem to be robocalling everyone in the U.S. -- maybe trying to sign them up for AmEx (motivation not clear). Very annoying because they keep calling even though I'm on the do not call list and have asked repeatedly not to be called. They call on average every few hours for the past few weeks.
The good news is that you can easily sue them for $500 per call. I'm doing this right now, and will post my results when done -- but others have done this successfully. It's very easy and cheap to do. In NY, just stop by the courthouse, fill out a very simple 1 page form, and pay $20. Since they called me 7 times in the past 48 hours, I'm suing for $3500 + the $20 court fee.
Robo-calls to a home phone number is illegal (except for charities and political campaigns). So if AmEx called you and you didn't ask them to -- you're entitled to $500 per call. It's an easy way to make money and also tell Amex not to bother you again. When you fill out your small claims paperwork -- just mention they are violating the Federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) -- which clearly states that automated calls are illegal. If you are on the Do Not Call registry, or have asked them to stop calling you in the past, you may even be entitled to more money.
This only takes a few minutes, and is easy to do -- so please give it a try. If Amex has annoyed you with their repeated robo-calls, this is a great way to get some justice -- and some extra money. Best of luck!- Caller: American Express
- Saul PachmanCall identified me by my full name. The message said
"This call is for Saul Pachman. Call back using reference number S0Z-UJV to help expediate this call"
What was odd was that the caller did not identify themselves (female voice)
nor did she give a call back number. - MLI received several phone call from this number too; my phone numnber is un-listed too. I am not sure what is going on. I have my phone number in the do not call list too.
- bmaeI was getting this call repeatedly from AMEX, I contacted them and they verified the number is theirs. If you want to stop the calls then contact Natacha St.Louis, Executive Office She was very helpful and contacted me after I emailed everyone listed here with a complaint. She apologized and sent me a gift card for $50 and stopped the calls, well worth the time of registering a complaint.
