This number kept showing up on my Caller ID. Got fed up and decided to answer it. The clown who was on the other end(Amon, I made him spell it) tries to get me to pay a debt from some company called IDT I've never even heard of. I basically tell him to [***]... so, next day I talk to my attorney. He tells me to inform the caller that the conversation is being recorded. He also said to then insist on an address that a registered letter can be sent to for validation of the debt. The idiot on the phone sounded like he was struck with a bat. He mumbled something I couldn't understand then rattled off the following address(4 times or better as I could barely understand him):

    Enhanced Recovery Corp.
    8014 Bayberry Rd.
    Jacksonville, FL 32256

They keep calling and never leave a message when i dont answer. When I do answer the person on the other ends hangs up immediately. This has been going on for a few weeks now and it really irritates me. I don't know what to do about it.

I've gotten many calls from this company before.  They keep calling and calling but never leave a message.  I finally called them back a couple days ago from the number showing up on caller ID and a guy answered with an accent.  He said who he was looking for but the person doesn't live here.  I asked what all the calls were about and he said they are a collection agency.  I asked if they would please take my number off their call program and he said they would.  But considering that collection agencies/agents are the scum of humanity, I doubt they will.

I just called the number back, they've been calling me all day for the about the last month and so I finally got annoyed. They are calling for someone I don't even know. They asked me for a reference number and I didn't have one because almost every time I answer they hang up. This guy named Darren, said he would take me off there list! We'll see..

I got fed up with these [***]'s so I downloaded PBX in a Flash (the Free Linux Asterisk@HOME PBX based system), installed it on a spare PC, got an unlimited minutes inbound VOIP line for 3.95 a month (in a diffent state than I am actually in) and forwarded my Vonage line to the new VOIP line (that I pointed my PBX at).

I put there number on the blacklist and now when these yahoos, or any other yahoos on the blacklist for that matter, call me they are instantly sent to a prerecoded message that says "the number you are calling is disocnnected or no longer in service..." with the three phone company tones and all. Sounds just like the real thing. I plugged in numbers for all the telemarketers and collection agencies calling me and within a week the number of calls from these idiots dropped to almost *zero*. When someine new calls to annoy me I add their number tot he blacklist.

I got a call from them last night on my cell. They didn't leave a message. Is there an agency that you can report these things to? Surely it's some form of harassment.

    Leslie -

Actually, they are a collection agency so they are allowed to call you within certain parameters. Most of these places break the rules though and they may be calling you looking for somebody else (wrong number). When that happens I've found it is damn near impossible to convince them they have a wrong number. They say they will remove you from the call list but they generally do not.

The only way to beat these pricks is to beat them at their own game. Automate your phones and bit bucket them before your phone ever rings (see my previous post just before yours).

I built my own PBX on a computer someone else was throwing away, using free software, paid 3.95$ a month for an inbound line, forwarded my existing number to it and automatically send all the telemarketers and collection agencies straight to a pre-recorded message that says they have reached a disconnected number.

I received a call from this number. The person calling had and Indian accent and indicated he was calling to collect an outstanding balance for a diagnostic lab that we had not used.

They call daily, trying to collect on a 13 year old US West debt that was paid years ago. They threaten, yell, and lie. All of this for a debt that they know would be well past the statute of limitations even if it hadn't already been paid. The caller id says they are calling from Saskatchewan, but it is clear that they are actually calling from a call center in India. As far as I can tell they are not even licensed to do business in my state.

For those in the US being hounded over years old issues, check this url for each state's statute of limitations. http://www.bcsalliance.com/y_debt_sol.html

I too have been getting calls from this number.  When you call back and ask for the company name they won't repeat it. And, it is a very heavy accent on the other line -- no matter how many times you call them you don't ever seem to get a non-heavy accented person. ODD!!  Anyway, they say they are calling re: a debt my husband owes Qwest Communications from back in 1997.  They did provide the last 4 of his SSN (which I never confirmed) and said the account had been charged off 10-8-97 and then sold to other collection agencies; they were just lucky enough to find us since we're trying to avoid paying the bill because we move around so much.  I laughed saying we're in the military and, therefore, we move every 3 years and have nothing to hide as we're current on all our bills. I asked him to provide me with documentation validating this claim (which, by law, a collection agency MUST do) and I was told they would send me a letter with the amount owed.  I told them a letter does not validate the bill and again requested original documentation from them.  He got mad and hung up on me.  I called back, spoke w/ yet another heavy accented person who, again, did not give out the company name when I asked.  I told her not to call my number again or I would talk with an attorney and the attorney general re: this matter.  That neither myself nor my husband owed any money to Qwest and a letter from their company does not validate the bill and further phone calls constitute harrassment.  I asked where she was calling from and she told me Clearwater, FL.

Ironically, we had service w/ Qwest from 2004-2007 and a bad debt was never mentioned to us.  I just now got off the phone with Qwest Communications and they said they DO NOT show any deliquent bills in either mine or my husband's name.

So beware of this company.  It's some sort of scam.  I did an online search for the area code 646 and prefix 383 and, guess what?  It's a number from Manhattan, NY -- a far cry from Clearwater, FL.  BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE.  If you get calls from these guys demand they provide original documentation to validate the alleged bill they say is owed.  By the Fair Debt & Practices Act they must comply.  A letter from them stating what is owed is not sufficient to validate the bill.  I used to work for collections years ago and if a company we were collecting for could not validate that bill, then we were not allowed to collect on it.

And, yes.  There is a statute of limitations on past due accounts.  This is exactly what the guy at Qwest confirmed for me when I asked.  And, again, according to the FDCPA a collection agency cannot continue to call you once you have asked them to cease & desist calls nor can they "attempt to collect a debt" if they cannot legitimately validate the bill when asked to do so.  And by validate I mean: provide documentation from the creditor they are allegedly trying to collect for.  All companies must provide this documentation to a collection agency upon inital setup or, if cumbersome, must provide this documentation when requested to do so.  If a collection agency cannot or refuses to do so they cannot legally collect on any debt.  The only situation where statutues of limitation do not apply is murder!!

This number keeps calling here as well  and I assume   they are phone phishing  as a lot of this is going on asking for payment of sorts  but there is no back owed  bills  and I am sure if you found a charge on your card  it would be from a debt collection  agency in god knows where. If they can't respond by mail I just hang up on them. I work too hard  for what I have to hand it away on a debt I didn't owe to begin with. Maybe  mail fraud gets ya more time when ya get caught so these [***]'s have resorted to phone scamming I would almost bet it is a throw away boost phone  as mine comes in as a private call ...Those [***]
