Same story here, 13 y/o daughter hadn't downloaded anything - it's a con, only just legal but highly unethical. Call 0870 1213186 to complain if you have a child under 16. Tell them they didn't have your permission therefore any 'contract' is void. They now say they're refunding the lot via cheque.
I found Virgin quite helpful too and they also offered to refund half the amount as a goodwill gesture - I didn't complain to them, just asked for help and asked them to consider a service (similar to banks) that picks up unusual billing activity like this and sends a warning text.
Virgin say they pick up mobile numbers anywhere they've been published online, so watch your kids on social networking sites etc.
Will be giving daughter another lesson in mobile use tonight...
Good luck to everyone else on here.- Caller: Jamster

- Torben replies to Kate| 1 replyJust to say thanks to the very helpful posters on this thread.
I found £54 had been taken from my son's (11yo) phone since he signed up to Jamster in Feb without realising what he was doing.
I called the help line quoted in many posts above [0870 1213186], got a very friendly and helpful operator; the 'service' has been cancelled and the phone's number barred from signing up again. When that sounded like the end of the conversation I noted the contravention of the Ts&Cs as my son is less than 16 and no-one had asked me, the bill payer, and that I'd like a full refund. I was offered initially £49.50 but pointed out the total sum owed was £54 and was immediately told that a cheque for that amount would be sent to me. They asked for my mobile number should this need further discussion and I asked for and was given the operator's name and badge number.
I was expecting a hard slog against a bunch of rip-off artists and had a very pleasant and satisfying conversation with an efficient operator,. - GullHi all....just called T-Mobile after reading the stuff on here and complained saying that how can they allow my 15 year old daughter to get theses texts. The TMobile lady said she has put a block on all 3rd party numbers and she also put a credit on for £9.00 onto my account.
Result.....- Caller: Jamster the dodgy sods!

- EricM replies to TorbenJust had a very similar experience to Torben, in my case it's one of my Grandaughter's whose mobile I pay for, she is just 15 and profoundly deaf, so texting forms a big part of her socialising, not too sure how she got onto this but probably via Facebook or similar, I only spotted the 700034153 number on her bill today and it added up to £22.50, I have been promised a full refund by cheque, will keep you posted, thanks to all on this thread as I wouldn't have known what to do without it.

NG8 3FU - Nick11 year son has had £45 bill for additional allowances. Seems on the itemised bill of 88888 for 10p each time followed immediately after by 700034153 for £1.50, three times. Thats £4.60. Each following week a bill in threes for £1.50 from 700034153. After googling the number it brought me here and I have just lost my whole evening trying to 1. see how this started and 2. stop is happening.
1. Seems the initial link was via a computer, and once hooked, via a mobile number a subscription was taken out each week for £4.50. The subscription was taken out each time by a automatic bill for £1.50 three times in the same minute. The bill/text record was for 700034153. So via this link to the automated Jamster site I was able to determine the account had been set up, tallying with the bill I had via the 88888 number. Jamster agreed that 700034153 was them because the x3 £1.50 added up to the £4.50 cost per week.
Eventually after getting not very far I was invited to phone 0870 1213186 to speak to someone. If this call has cost me anything there will be trouble!!
Upon phoning the number I spoke to someone else, obviously a foreign call centre, and had to say everything I had typed in the online section. There was an agreement that 88888 was Jamster but the man on the phone said he had no record of 700034153 being Jamster, despite me saying the exact times, matching his recorded times and call charge.
Jamster insist I have a bill for £13.50 yet the bill I have for the mobile with the 7000 numbers is for £45.
I asked the guy if I could speak to someone who could confirm the Jamster number 700034153 was indeed Jamster, but he wasn't allowed to transfer me.
So if you do read this post 700034153 is Jamster. Jamster themselves do not think it is them but the texts we received matched exactly the dates and times the 'bills' were sent through.
Is it going to stop?
We have asked for the subscription to stop immediately and we will wait to see if we are billed by the mysterious 700034153 Jamster number (or not Jamster number according to Jamster)- Caller: Jamster

- Mr. Angry| 2 repliesJust phoned Jamster customer service, they stated that the order was placed on a PC not my 12year old sons phone, apparently they then send a text for confirmation, which apparently was received on July 11 @ 14.50pm. They couldn't confirm that it was sent by his phone and there is no entry on his itemized bill to show that a text was made to the 88888 number. They offered a poultry £13.50 of the £90.19 that he was charged (I was charged). However they did say they would escalate the matter. I'll have to wait a see. Note they also stated that none of their services was used/downloaded.

- Borris replies to Mr. Angry| 1 replyHi,
I think you need to follow up on the fact the contract is legally void because your son is under 16 and didn't have your permission and therefore could not possibly agree to their Ts & Cs.
This has worked for lots of folk on here so go for it and be persistent. I got a refund back in August 2010 (see page 1).
I am appalled that over 2 years later they are still getting away with it. Especially as I formally complained to Phonepayplus who are the watchdog on this type of service. My complaint was upheld, I guess the fine just wasn't big enough! I would encourage everyone to complain to Phonepayplus if they feel this is a breach of the code of practice (see http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/.)
Good luck
Borris - NmacD replies to BorrisThanks for the very helpful advice. My9 year old had managed to "sign up" to 2 contract with them. Total bill £54! Called Jamster who were very helpful and have put a stop on the accounts and offered a refund to be paid in 20 days - will see if a cheque arrives!
