Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

Scam Alert -- Fake Fraud Department is After Your Credit Card Code
Scammers Pose as Credit Card Fraud Department
A fraudulent fraud department? It may sound too wacky to be true, but scammers are now pretending to be from credit card companies' fraud departments. It's a trick to get you to reveal your card's security code.
How the Scam Works:
You answer the phone, and the caller says he/she is from your credit card's security department. This "fraud specialist" tells you that there's suspicious activity on your card. He makes up a bogus transaction and asks if you authorized it. When you reply that you never made the purchase, the "fraud specialist" offers to open an investigation into charge. The scammer may even give you a fake case number for reference.
Everything seems normal until the scammer asks one last question. Under the guise of verifying that the credit card is in your procession, he requests the security code on the back of your card. Don't give it to him; it's a scam!
In this particular con, identity thieves already have your information. They know your name, credit card number, phone number and address. Now, all they need is the security code on the back of your card. If you share it, you give the con artist the information he needs to wrack up charges in your name.
What To Do if a Fraudulent Fraud Department Calls:
•Don't give the caller any information about your account - even if he already knows some of the details.
•Pick up the phone. Call the customer service number on the back of your credit card. Talk to the fraud or security department and ask about the unauthorized charges the caller told you about.
•Phone numbers can deceive. Some con artists use Internet technology to disguise their area code in Caller ID systems. Although it may look like they're calling from your credit card company, they could be calling from anywhere in the world.

- See more at: http://www.bbb.org/council/news-events/bbb-sc ... h.S3PnPYOC.dpuf - DRI received a call on my cell from this number. No recognizing it, I did not answer. They left a voice mail with a case number and said they were contacting me to confirm charges to my credit union Visa card. I called the credit union directly, connected to their fraudulent department and he confirmed the use of this company and even requested the case # the voice mail left. He then confirmed a few transactions on my Visa to check I made them and everything was fine. I did not, however, wish to contact this number directly, so instead was cautious and contacted my credit union directly and all was fine.

- Jake replies to Concerned PersonYup, just got a call from the same number/crook, and ignored it.
- deeGuess I will be flagged as one of the were some of the prior "scammers" here, BUT, this is a legitimate phone number - 800-879-2674. It is a National Fraud Clearing House for all financial institutions, i.e., Banks and Credit Unions. Depending on which card you have, they will ask you to call the number of your Bank or Credit Union to verify what might "possibly" be fraudulent charges. Sometimes it will be fraud and sometimes just careful legitimate oversight on your account (as in the case of MCB above). They will also give you a Case Number to use when calling. In our case, the message told me to call 866-205-8310. That IS the number of our Credit Union. And, yes, charges were being made, but not by us. Ergo, account must be closed and new cards issued. When in doubt, call the number on the back of your own credit card and ask to be connected to the Fraud Department. This should reassure you. Not everyone is a scammer and it IS better to be safe than sorry.

- LHThis number belongs to FiServe. They are the 3rd party company used by many banks. They process the statements and send your online checks out in the mail. You don't need to give personal information, but take the call and then check with your bank. FiServe had called our business about dozens of checks returned because of a bad lockbox number. All true.
- Caller: FiServe
- BusinessReceived two calls from this number saying that it was from our bank fraud division. Looked the number up and not surprisingly it is a bogus number. Businesses beware!
